SKY: AN APOLOGY TO CELTIC

SKY Sports have issued a grovelling apology to Celtic following the Alfredo Morelos interview that had been translate incorrectly.

The broadcaster had published an interview with the Colombian which included accusations Morelos didn’t make.

In the meeting at the Ibrox side’s training HQ, the 23-year-old striker had claimed he was the victim of racism, but the translation insisted that he said Celtic supporters had been the perpetrators.

Now the satelitte giants have have admitted they got it wrong and vowed to review their procedures for further interviews.

They’ve also published a new transcript of the interview that updates what Morelos says to a correct manner.

They said: “We have identified inaccuracies in the translation of Sky Sports News’ interview with Alfredo Morelos. We apologise to both Celtic and Rangers football clubs as well as Alfredo Morelos for the issues caused by these errors.

“After numerous steps undertaken by Sky to verify the interview thoroughly we can be clear that at no point did Morelos allege that any racial abuse was directed at him by Celtic supporters in the interview.

“We apologise to the supporters of Celtic Football Club for this serious error.

“We are reviewing our procedures for translated interviews to ensure this does not occur in future.

“Below is the full transcript of the video published on Sky Sports with a professionally verified translation. A full subtitled video will be published here later.”

Celtic, as CQN reported last night, had issued a complaint to the broadcaster after the interview was published and it was pulled from all their media platforms.

Morelos was apparently giving an “exclusive world-first” interview to Sky Sports following the game at Parkhead just before the turn of the year when he made his ‘slit-throat’ gesture to Hoops fans as he came off the pitch minutes from time.

The frontman had picked up his SEVENTH red card in two seasons after taking a blatant dive in an effort to win a penalty-kick with his side already leading 2-1.

Kevin Clancy had previously booked Morelos for a foul on Scott Brown and the referee gad no hsitation in issuing a second yellow.

It was later revealed the hot-head received a third booking after the encounter.
