Some things are more important

580

I know we are in the middle of a storm with the prospect of the San Siro, not to mention St Johnstone ahead.  I also know the only thing you want to read or write about is how we are going to resolve our problems, but there is more to Celtic than football, specifically the Foundation.

The history poverty is clear, the poor suffer more from an economic crisis than anyone.  2020 has been a terrible year to be poor and many more people are now poor than a year ago.  Your Foundation stepped in early in the crisis and continues to work on our behalf.  There has been practically no fundraising this year: no badge day, no bucket collection or Ghirls for Good.

The Sleep Out, which takes place each winter, goes ahead on Friday night as Stay Up for the Champions.  You can participate from your home, details here.  If that is not possible, you can help in other ways here.

We are so much more than just a football club, the Foundation is evidence of that.

We’re launching Celtic: Fifty Flags Plus One, an anthology of how Celtic won each of their league titles today.  Starting with our first title in 1893, it details how Willie Maley brought consistent glory, then the sparse successes over four decades before Jock Stein arrived in 1965 and the more contemporary wins since.

It will rekindle memories you had forgotten and give insight into how the leagues were won.

  3. Have to laugh at the posters coming on and claiming deflection,in Paul’s header.Since when did a right few posters give a monkeys what Paul wrote. They already had their wee agendas up and running, and nothing in Gods creation would deflect them.

  4. The Battered Bunnet on

Will current performances on the pitch and the consequent vexes of the fans mean that support for the work of the Foundation will be diminished, and as a consequence, the work that it is able to do?

Are we more charitable when we’re winning?

  5. Mc Greer.Nope,I need somebody else to have a look at them.Does not make you any less of a moron. His name is still Paul as well.

Really don’t know why you’re still allowed to post on here following this contribution from you yesterday.

Still, as you say, it’s Paul’s site and if he’s OK with that, well that’s his business.

  7. I do think posters are being harsh on P67 in accusing him of deflection.

He told us last week that he had said to the powers that be that a change of management was required and was told gtf of words to that effect.

He told us on Friday There is Worse to Come, because he lknows Neil Lennon is going nowhere. Now we have a statement from Desmond confirming that. He will not be dictated to by ‘the mob’, by which I’m sure he means all of us and not just the few eejits outside the ground on Sunday. How dare we tell him how to run his business.

Neil Lennon is an unfortunate symptom of the problem. Lawell is another symptom. The disease at Celtic is Dermot ‘here’s a million for the democratic process’ Desmond.

  8. Dear Mr Stewart.

I note on model railways velocity bugle today that you are promoting the annual Christmas raffle (seems like not 12 months since the last one) rather than focusing on the big issues of very late deliveries from Mr hornby toy emporium.

It would be a better use of my time if you got this all sorted.

  9. I gave up to Charity’s a long time ago,Why because I believe them at the top earn a good salary, and Celtic Foundation isn’t different,no I’m not contributing, charity is about helping folk who for whatever reasons need help with food ,clothes etc,not for some making a good living out of people’s misery.

  10. Lenny should go,one way or another. If this does not happen, then as long as he is in the job,he gets my support. To rail against this is madness. We cannot affect who will manage Celtic at this time.Maybe the 10 has already gone, maybe not,but IMHO,bringing in a new manager, and his team, will surely make that impossible.Too much ground to cover,in too short a time.Thats the only reason I said WGS,until the end of the season. He has been watching,he knows the players, what they CAN do.Until he goes,Lenny gets my backing, but for his sake,I hope he goes soon. These players have to take a long hard look at themselves. They have been a total disgrace, apart from a few.Watching the difference between the Huns and us,is their work rate.Shocking.

  11. The current shambles has turned into a standoff, which solves absolutely nothing. A good Celtic man is drowning here,DD is doing Neil no favours ,by prolonging his agony. He will not turn this team around, everyone knows that, and I include Neil himself, going by his recent press conferences. Do the right thing, relieve him of his duties, pay him what he is due, thank him and let’s move on.

  12. Since our 1994 overthrow of the family custodians has there been any other successful fan actions that got regimes changed ?

    Any examples ?

  13. Ray Winstone's Big Disembodied Heid on

As Jock Stein famously said ” Football without the fans is nothing”.

It would certainly appear that Celtic without the fans is nothing, and although the club didn’t die like the huns, I don’t recognise it anymore.

I lived through the time of the Kellys and the Whites, but the present state of affairs is unparalleled in my opinion.

It leads me to question what has happened to the soul of our club. Can it be saved and is it worth saving in its present incarnation?

  14. Bhoy From The Boyne on

    Bada Bing @ 1:52pm,

I wouldn’t be surprised if DD is just keeping the supporters hanging to stew after Sunday evenings events. Hopefully discussing the managers job with contacts in the football world to line up replacements.

DD will be well aware he will lose money the more this goes on. In any event the inept tactical approach of this management team will force his hand with another defeat/draw.

My money is on NL being allowed to gracefully leave after the Milan game. Away from CP and chanting crowds while board are not seen to be pandering.

  15. BSR -Excellent piece, Riders of the Storm indeed.

    But why?

Seems like Messer Lawwell & Lennon, see their futures and legacy having only one good outcome… turning that elusive corner and getting the holy grail of the TEN!! Looks like the don’t do walking away, looks like desperados

    HARRYM @ 1:43 PM,

If big Pedro and Lenny see a way out of their flustercluck by trying to hang this all on Dermot, I for one wouldn’t fancy the desperados’ chances.

    Hail Hail

  16. ERNIE LYNCH,,

You humorless, boring, nonentity. The wee joke about “Pseuds corner”has really got to you.It will be a cold day in Hell ,before I take any rebuke from such as you.Away back to your wing back chair in the corner,Don your smoking jacket, tighten up your cravat, light up your pipe, and keep on fantasizing that you are some kind of intellectual, when,in fact, you are just sad.

  17. It is right and proper to highlight and promote the excellent work done by The Foundation.

Equally important to point out that the football club is the enabler to the activities of The Foundation.

Without any evidence, I would suggest that the success of the club directly relates to the success of The Foundation.

Does WGS still post here under a different alias?

    Same question also for MWD?

Just asking – I enjoyed their posts back in the day along with the late pablo friday night music sessions.

  20. If Neil Lennon is the big Celtic fan that he is made out to be , he would walk.

He can’t be short of a few bob.

Do the honourable thing Neil for the good of our club

  21. For the first time in many, many years, I’m choosing not to watch Celtic this week.

I’m disengaging and will leave Lawwell and Desmond to it.

They’ve won, they’ll lose the ten to prove how powerful they are.

  22. St Tams,

There are many things Neil Lennon will have to contemplate.

He may not be poor, but i would wager he is not financially secure for life. He also has his family to consider. As Paul 67 states ” There are some more important things to consider ”

Talking about Neil’s family. Who will pay for his enhanced security. ?

Until Sunday night it was clear where the threat to his security came from.

    HH.

  23. St Tams

You’re right, if Neil was such a Celtic man as people claim, he would have resigned before now.

Contrast that with Gordon Strachan, a man of rare integrity in football, at Middlesbro.

  24. ST TAMS- I would hope this isn’t an issue of who blinks first re compensation, pay him what he’s due, anything else is emotional blackmail.

  25. If Neil Lennon was as good a celtic supporter as many on here he would do what he is told and resign immediately, you know honour and all that will pay the bills.

    have a look at yirsels

  26. ADI_DASSLER NOT FOR 2ND BEST on 1ST DECEMBER 2020 2:38 PM

Neil Lennon has over 500 properties in England (Mainly North England). He doesnt need to work.

    ——————————–

I am going to research that, I know a few fellas that have advised Footballers on property investments. Some even put in their ebt’s, then put the portfolio into others names and trust funds.

But lets under call it, I know across the North the traditional houses can be cheap, so lets say Neil picked up 500 properties for £20,000 each.

That is a £10 million property portfolio, think about that for a moment.

So before I go searching, do you want to declare some sources ?

  27. BHOY FROM THE BOYNE on 1ST DECEMBER 2020 2:14 PM

I thought the same. What happened to Kojo too? I got the impression he’d been booted but not sure why – I thought he and Paul67 were close.

  28. The Blogger Formerly Known As GM on

Paraphrasing: ‘Just pay him what he’s [contractually] due’. ‘He has every right to dig in for the sake of his family’ etc, etc.

What do folks advocating this think when they see CEOs of PLCs walk off with sack loads of cash for doing a poor job?

I’d wager your first thought isn’t ‘oh well, he deserves it’.

Unsurprising really and this was before the trump years I suspect.
