Spartak and the long road home

1014

Having disposed of Raith Rovers last night, Celtic have two huge away games, against top of the table Motherwell before a trip to Moscow for a Champions League match against Spartak in six days.

Tonight Spartak play just a few miles from the Ukraine border and have a journey of close to 1000 miles on Saturday.  It is little wonder they, like Celtic, are looking for ways to improve their injury record.

Celtic will travel to Moscow only a few hours after Spartak leave the city of Perm to journey home.  On Tuesday we will be the fresher team.  Could this be the game we break our duck away from home in the Champions League?  If we get it right on the park it will be.

I didn’t read the (incredible) statement by Charles Green until late last night, when I caught it via the excellent analysis by Paul McConville on his Random Thoughts blog.  Mr Green, Paul concludes, is “Either… stupid, which he is not, or he has decided to continue to appeal to his core support”.

There is a third alternative.  Last season we watched Craig Whyte, then Duff and Phelps, embark on a series of unfathomable actions.  Neither party was stupid, nor were their actions necessarily guided by anything as a coordinated appeal; they were simply being buffeted along by circumstances.  No one was in control, had the experience necessary or was party to a deliverable Grand Plan, resulting in a series of random utterances.

  1. Tonight Mullettwell – Saturday back to being Murderwell.

An absolute disgrace – but we should have known how they would play.

If I was a Motherwell fan -God forbid – I would be calling for McCall’s head.

Bound to get them in the QF now.

    HH!!

  2. My man Cavani scores a hat-trick – Napoli 3-1 (21 goals in his last 25 games).

    2nd hat-trick v Lazio in 18 months.

…………. and like big Sammi this boy can defend at set-pieces!

  3. Thought the BBC commentator and interviewer with elbows are the most pro sevco media I have heard in their short history…

  4. am always happy wots no tae be happy with especially on saturday when we go tae lanarkshire and wip the wipping boys efter all we will have a full strong squad tae pick fae so easy 3 points

  5. pabloh_AKA_NEIL LENNON on

    JOB DONE for McCall.

Sevco can’t beat Berwick, Annan or queen of the south, but you could have put your mortgage on them beating SPL top of the table Motherwell!

    Good evening Ulysess

I know it sound unbelievable that a manager can set out not to win, however McCall has previous.

I firmly believe the Mullet, aware or otherwise, is not capable of putting out a team to beat Sevco.

Lasley with half one of our bhoys in two on Saturday and Higdon will attempt to rag doll our Centres- what is different from tonight.

    Great concert btw!

    Hail hail

May I suggest a well penned letter highlighting McCall’s record against the huns questioning his integrity to the letters page of the Bradford Telegraph and Argus.

Let the locals know a bit about one of the city’s favourite sons.

Anyone wondering how someone could send his team out to get beaten. Good grief. Everyone on here knew how tonight would pan out. And no, no one is psychic. We just know how big a Hun McCall is.

Here is my post from before the game started. And again, I’m not psychic.

BBC Scotland have just put Motherwell manager Stuart McCall’s after match statement for tonights game online. It reads,

“obviously we are disappointed at the lackluster display and below par performance tonight. We simply did not compete, and thedefendingat two ofthe goalswasembarrassing.

However, I canassure all Motherwell fans that there will be a completely different approach to the league game against Celtic this weekend. And to Ally McCoist, I say, ‘Ma-ha-bone’!“.

  9. Well what a surprise eh? 4 page pull out in the daily ranker tomorrow anyone? Cue endless moaning about see sevco should be in SPL they’ve just beat the SPL leaders. Interviewers already starting it bunch of funds!

Let me say right now I want no part of sevco in the next round so the msm can go into ‘old firm’ overdrive. If we do draw them make it at Celtic Park shut the top level of stadium, play the development squad, charge 15 quid and give thems 2,000 tickets in the part of the stadium with the worst view.

  10. TET

You can put money on it that SevCo will get a home draw

The big question is, when will the draw take place?

As of this afternoon the SFL said they had no date as to when the QF draw would be

    I kid you not

You know how it goes. I can say little but I can allude to much.

A story to spill? Not me.

    Nuclear? Endgame? Not yet…

Much pain and shame coming to their foaming-at-the mouths fans (and others) on their way to falling into their deep grave?

    Most certainly!

  12. Steinreignedsupreme on

    Mulletwell – oh dear.

Let’s hammer another nail into McCall’s coffin on Sunday. We can expect the ole ‘players must make up for their poor performance at Ibrox’ routine in the next few days.

But I don’t care how much they raise their game against us – I want Celtic to seriously embarrass them … although after that result that might not be possible.

I honestly reckon Mullet is on borrowed time. Their fans will not be happy about that result … and rightly so.

  13. We really need to teach Murderwell a lesson on Saturday.

And since it’s probably inevitable that we’ll draw the zombies, we need to give them a beating so severe that they’ll never recover from the horror of it.

  14. Sevco fans going on about their attendances is like Primark phoning Harrods and saying we are busier than you!

    lol

  15. !!Bada Bing!! 21:17

Their titles this century will be stripped, that is a given.

Their titles since Murray took over will be part of the long term spotlight that will result from what follows in the next month or so.

My news? A merry jape at what is left of the Walking Dead.

And you thought they were cross at wasps and daleks…

  16. Haven’t ever watched them ever, when I can avoid it. From what I have read, McCall’s team didn’t try a leg. Well, don’t be mistaken. They’ll be chopping every leg in sight on Saturday and Collum will turn a blind eye (he only sees what goes on behind him anyway, supposedly).

I don’t want to meet thon deid team’s latest incarnation (is that too kafflik a word?) ever. The only happy news I have had this evening is O G Rafferty’s promised delight. I don’t think he has failed us before.

  17. Steinreignedsupreme on

    O.G.Rafferty 21:19 on 26 September, 2012

Aye. I know how it goes. So long as you have a reliable source.

I’ve had that feeling in the last week that there is definitely something brewing.

  18. Nevins makin’ up blue movies in his head as he slavers on about the zombies. Not a word about them bein’ up to their knees in blood….I suppose that’s par for zombies.

Please bring the day of their final ruination…..please.

The guff blowing round this masonic mob in Scotland is disgraceful in the extreme.
