Spartak and the long road home

1014

Having disposed of Raith Rovers last night, Celtic have two huge away games, against top of the table Motherwell before a trip to Moscow for a Champions League match against Spartak in six days.

Tonight Spartak play just a few miles from the Ukraine border and have a journey of close to 1000 miles on Saturday.  It is little wonder they, like Celtic, are looking for ways to improve their injury record.

Celtic will travel to Moscow only a few hours after Spartak leave the city of Perm to journey home.  On Tuesday we will be the fresher team.  Could this be the game we break our duck away from home in the Champions League?  If we get it right on the park it will be.

I didn’t read the (incredible) statement by Charles Green until late last night, when I caught it via the excellent analysis by Paul McConville on his Random Thoughts blog.  Mr Green, Paul concludes, is “Either… stupid, which he is not, or he has decided to continue to appeal to his core support”.

There is a third alternative.  Last season we watched Craig Whyte, then Duff and Phelps, embark on a series of unfathomable actions.  Neither party was stupid, nor were their actions necessarily guided by anything as a coordinated appeal; they were simply being buffeted along by circumstances.  No one was in control, had the experience necessary or was party to a deliverable Grand Plan, resulting in a series of random utterances.

I think the draw is on monday.

I suppose they need a day or two to sort out the logistics of who will play who, and where.

Aye, a home draw for them is a cert, I just hope it’s not against us.

  2. I could understand cowpat nevin speaking like that if he had to feed his weans

    with BBC money.

He must be worth a few bob ,the wee soup taker, so no excuseto lick ass at ipox.

  3. Murdering Mwell on Sat is no more important than it was at 7 o’clock tonight.

A boring 1-0 with no injuries will do fine.

In fact as we all know the result will be irrelevant at the end of the season.

You are quite correct regards McCall’s after match reaction. It will be about ‘putting things right’ on Saturday. They will be allowed by soup taker Collum to boot us all over the park. Our players especially people like Broonie, Beram + Joe will have to be super cute in their challenges at Fir Park.

McCall is in the last year of his contract at FP. Cheats like him + dinosaurs like Craig Brown have no place in modern day Scottish football

Sevco fans going on about their attendances is like Primark phoning Harrods and saying we are busier than you!

as they say in the east coast “that was barry”……….

  6. Boys and girls, this is an unexpected bonus. Not important in the long term but bloody good in the short term. My source is, as ever, my source, and not someone else’s which is good enough for me.

  7. Can I Have Raspberry On That Champions League Ice Cream

Never happen, a draw agin them will be back to OF prices, and the clamour for tickets will be disgracefull.

I’ll wager that sick Hun puppy McCall has his Murderwell surrender-monkeys at us like pitbulls from the whistle on Saturday. Charlatans.

was about to say the same. no complacency, they’ll be the more settled squad, a squillion percent focused and probably play ok. we just got to be big and keen

Being by nature a supporter of the underdog it felt a bit strange today to be going for an SPL team over lower league opposition. And of course, I was a bit disappointed at the upset. But it was worth it ten times over to hear McCulloch’s “three points” remark.

It occurs to me that some of them might really think they deserve points in the league for that one…..

  10. Looked like the fix was in for this game. Tough-tackling Keith Lasley never made a tackle that I saw, and all action centre-forward Michael Higdon, well he looked like he was saving himself for something else.

Pat Nevin who was going to denounce sectarian chanting and singing sat through two hours of it and never said a word other than to praise the Rangers support. He is only slightly less biased than Tom Miller of Rangers TV who is twice as funny as pathetic Pat.

    Callum Murray…………….why bother.

  11. I have to say the result tonight was not a surprise to me,if I was a gambling man I would have had a tenner on Newco.Putting my tin hat on I have to say they deserved their win,Murderwell were sh”t”

  14. I would play the fringe players against sevco 2 on saturday, we are going to get fouled with total impunity.

Our second team are good enough to deal with them, I would keep the 1 st team for Spartak, much ,ore important than beating the mullet scum.

The league will be won at the end of the season, no point in taking chances.

I would rather we lost than risk injuries to our players, in saying that, I think our 2nd team will beat them.

    Just my humble opinion mind.

  15. Ive not listened to so much a… Li…. in my life.

Mullet heid will sleep well tonight.

Nevin should hold his head in shame.

Didn’t want to play the indead until necessary.

Seeing what I watched tonight I would expect us to humiliate them and I’m sure nl would take as much pleasure in it as we would.hh

I thought it was decent to be fair. And they don’t just say ‘that was Barry’ on the east coast, you can claim ‘salt n sauce’ though :)

  21. It’ll be very interesting to see the reporting of the liedownwell vs the noobs game- can’t see huge headlines about a massive upset, giant killing underdogs and so on. The win will sell loads of ‘papers’ and reinforce the feeling amongst the fans that they’ll be back in the limelight after this blip. sorry cqn, I’m looking forward to seeing the record tomorrow

  22. I have just watched the Hun game and read a few comments on here. The comments were as I expected. I tried to watch Them with an open mind and what I saw was a Sevco, no, a Rangers team much more up for it than Motherwell. I didn`t see Motherwell lying down as per insructions frm their manager. No, I saw a team which seemed to think it was superior and failed to put in the necessary effort. Motherwell were more classy than their Division Three opponents but they did not fight as hard. If Motherwell try harder against us on Saturday, it is because they know they have to.I detest the Ibrox Club and the sychophantic coverage they receive in Scotland but I will still keep an honest eye on what I see on the pitch.

Think we might find that murderwell will ‘turn up’ on Saturday, and we will hump them ….. Don’t want to EVER play that corrupt lot EVER again….they should not even BE in Div3, having done their best to destroy Scottish Football with their cheating …..get thee gone, and leave SPORT / FAIR PLAY to the rest of us…!!

  24. So they won, not a great shock.

I said earlier Green was frantically trying to conclude some outstanding business.

Fifa/Uefa about to p1ss all over them.
