Spartak and the long road home

1014

Having disposed of Raith Rovers last night, Celtic have two huge away games, against top of the table Motherwell before a trip to Moscow for a Champions League match against Spartak in six days.

Tonight Spartak play just a few miles from the Ukraine border and have a journey of close to 1000 miles on Saturday.  It is little wonder they, like Celtic, are looking for ways to improve their injury record.

Celtic will travel to Moscow only a few hours after Spartak leave the city of Perm to journey home.  On Tuesday we will be the fresher team.  Could this be the game we break our duck away from home in the Champions League?  If we get it right on the park it will be.

I didn’t read the (incredible) statement by Charles Green until late last night, when I caught it via the excellent analysis by Paul McConville on his Random Thoughts blog.  Mr Green, Paul concludes, is “Either… stupid, which he is not, or he has decided to continue to appeal to his core support”.

There is a third alternative.  Last season we watched Craig Whyte, then Duff and Phelps, embark on a series of unfathomable actions.  Neither party was stupid, nor were their actions necessarily guided by anything as a coordinated appeal; they were simply being buffeted along by circumstances.  No one was in control, had the experience necessary or was party to a deliverable Grand Plan, resulting in a series of random utterances.

@SPLstats: @BBCchrismclaug Not bothering with the Motherwell line-up?

    Oh err….

Hence the reason for my post earlier.

  2. Sevco going with new tactics tonight, its based on what can be described as the known known and the unknown unknowns or as 50yr old rookie manger Who R U McCoist calls it the Rumsveltd formation

Mulletwell slipping up at Aberdeen on Sunday has forced McCall into taking tonight’s game seriously. The League Cup presents one of their best opportunities for silverware this season.

A lot of Mulletwell fans were on McCall’s case for his efforts against Deadco – especially as they were dropping points to all the other teams. They will not tolerate losing to Third Division rubbish. If they lose tonight and we beat them at the weekend Mulletwell fans will start calling for his head. And McCall knows it.

No matter what we think of Mulletwell – they are the top team in Scotland on current form – the very idea that they should lose to a fourth-tier club is laughable.

I have only seen this strip this season!!! I wonder if it has anything to do with MCall being the boss?

  8. Advice please Bhoys – got a “Parking Charge Notice” in the Forge whilst at the Benfica game last week – “parked and left site”, no shit Sherlock. I do have a McDonald’s receipt but taking over 3 hours to eat a McD’s is pushing it. Internet advice says it’s not a legal parking ticket and do not pay….anyone had any experience of this?

  9. The bbc coverage is absolutely dire. They are spending so much time sucking up to Sevco, it’s nauseating. Also remember we are only at the end of September and they’ve been live on bbc 3 times. So much for impartial coverage by the national broadcaster.

  10. I hope Pat Nevin has his pen and paper ready, they’ve started singing old folk songs from history already.

  11. lol! As close to a European night as they are going to get, a second Round league cup game against Motherwell.

Personally I can’t be bothered with all thae Klingons and wierd looking creatures from distant galaxies so I think I’ll watch Star Trek as well.

It is a notice not a fine. Only enforceable if they take you to court and prove you were driving and deliberately ignored any signs.

    Bin it.

I wonder if that wee Rat Nevin will tell it it like it is when those scumbags start singing there Bile???

I’m doing alright Pal thanks for asking, Mum is back in Wishaw since yesterday so I will be home as soon as I can get everything organised here.

Be good to grab a coffee and a blether when I’m back, do you live in the Lanarkshire area??

    Hail Hail

Not an expert but I’ve seen advice elsewhere via Celtic fans in a similar situation where the vast majority ‘ignore it’ – as it’s not a parking ticket.

“Rangers are being hemmed in at the moment” says the daft commentator.

Fancy that…….a team from the fourth tier being hemmed in by the leading team from the top tier…..well I never!

  18. Richard D

If it’s not council or police issued you can ignore it. They’d have to take you to court to prove you are the driver, even then they are on shaky legal ground.

My car was snowed in at an NCP car park, they issued three to me for the same “offence” over 3 days, wanting £50 for each. I ignored their ridiculous attempts to defraud me.
