SPFL Sky TV deal realities

424

The proposed new deal the Guardian report Sky TV and the SPFL are close to agreeing would see a modest uptick of £2m per season to £29.5m.

For that, Sky can broadcast 60 games each year, instead of the current 48 games. Each club would also be able to sell five pay per view (PPV) games.

The analysts I have read is universally hostile. The deal does not compare favourably with similar sized European countries, the average cost per broadcast game drops and there is little account for inflation.

The analysis is also mostly lazy as our misses the point. Scottish football TV audiences are all about two tribes. Viewing figures become noticeable only when they meet.

Oh for an AZ Alkmaar, to bring drama to Celtic games from midtable.

The SPFL sell TV rights in an open and competitive market. It is absurd to bemoan the deal and not recognise the harsh fact that it was better than all others on offer.

It’s all clubs take up their five PPV options, some will be playing to a TV audience of hundreds, perhaps dozens.

  1. The Glazers have never been popular at OT but Ferguson was the glue that held the club together. Fergie has been away over nine years now, they go from bad to worse to tragic.

It took Liverpool 30 years to get back on top of the heap, for one season only as it turned out. But they are in the mix for the league and Champions League.

Brendan Rodgers is now in charge of a team that has gone from top 4/5/6 to bottom 15/16/17, maybe even lower. Thems the breaks Brendan.

It was your choice. A club somewhere in Europe will pluck you from your current misery.

Has Walsh ever refereed a game in which Sevco has lost?

    Very good question.

Surely, MICK LYNCH, EDDIE DEMPSEY, etc, etc, have to speak to this guy 👆🏻 and, JEREMY CORBYN, CHRIS WILLIAMSON, The ASPIRE PARTY, etc, and ALL of the working classes whom EVERY elected politician in Britain, apart from SINN FEIN, has smeared, and mocked the 99% of people during the cost of living crisis,

conversations with a view to forming an immovable force of working class people, and the sick, the homeless, the in work poverty stricken, all formed into a unit of folk who’ll rip up the crooked script, and write a new, unmuggable script for the 99%.

The guy speaking in the video, HAS TO BE, the 99%`s MSM attack dog, straight to the 100% point of every issue, hence the reason why big tech is trying to suppress his cage rattling truth.

Just to clarify, are Celtic supporters aware that both, ML and ED, are pro CORBYN’S Workers Brexit, as compared to the shambolic Tory bankers Brexit which is still trying to be cobbled together, since 2019?

In EU nationalising key commodities is not allowed, which has contributed not totally, but hugely, to the disaster we’re being asked to endure, whilst Germany rumored to be ready open coal mines again in defiance of the shadow govt who are pulling Biden`s strings.

The guy in the video nails it!

If not him, then WHO else are the MSM terrified of?

The MSM domino has to be the first to fall, then the cabal has no veil.

Rangers win 4-0 at home to a very poor St Johnstone side and it prompts a question about how many times the referee has officiated at a game Rangers have lost.

A very good question? I call it scraping the barrel.

I don’t think Nick Walsh should be measured on his performances refereeing Sevco, least it’s early days though he hasn’t been effectively banned from iBrokes like Kevin Timmy Name Clancy or Willie Kafflik School Collum.

3-0 tomorrow takes us top on alphabetical order.

    4-0 top on goal difference.

    4-1 top on goals scored.

  7. Rangers are reffed differently to other teams – the number of minutes of extra time they receive when they are ahead at halftime is different to the number of minutes of extra time awarded when they are drawing or losing.

When they last won the league, there was a statistically significant difference between the cards awarded and the cards awarded against the champions of the previous 5 years.

I do not suggest any reason for it , however it is undeniable that there is a bias in the numbers.

Nouble and Obileye of Livi, could be a couple of transfer rabbits out of the hat for Ange?

Or are we too snooty to recruit from Livi?

Ange should think about getting a copy of the Livi `how to park a bus` manual.

  9. An offside 2nd goal allowed and a player that voluntarily (not momentum) goes into the crowd after scoring the first goal left unbooked.

They are not of themselves, big decisions, but , IF, and it remains to be proved, is this is what Nick Walsh habitually does when reffing the Ibrox team, then the question should be asked.

I suspect the answer to the question will prove to be that they have dropped points or had pens or red cards awarded against them while Walsh reffed them but there is nothing desperate about asking the question as far as I can see

Who would ask the question, bearing in mind that Celtic PLC financially back the Old Firm?

Or are you just trying to look good?

  13. Mentioned a few times on here that we should aim to be the top thirty six teams in Europe with in the next two years. By that I mean we are in one of the four groups of nine CL teams starting 2024-25. That format might suit us. Wasn’t intended to refer to our Euro co-efficient. That said just had a look at our current position. Fifty one as it goes. Our rivals here in Scotland are rated at thirty two. We will improve over the next season or two, but currently nothing to write home about. Like I said we need to use the next two seasons to build on the promise Ange has brought to the club and in particular to the team. Starting tomorrow, on a plastic pitch in somewhere called East Ayrshire.

  14. Craig Levine scrapping the bottom of the barrel here, who could have possibly suspected Rev Mike McCurry of bias ? McCurry a man of the cloth one of the SFAs finest, and there’s been many like him in my lifetime
