SPFL Sky TV deal realities

424

The proposed new deal the Guardian report Sky TV and the SPFL are close to agreeing would see a modest uptick of £2m per season to £29.5m.

For that, Sky can broadcast 60 games each year, instead of the current 48 games. Each club would also be able to sell five pay per view (PPV) games.

The analysts I have read is universally hostile. The deal does not compare favourably with similar sized European countries, the average cost per broadcast game drops and there is little account for inflation.

The analysis is also mostly lazy as our misses the point. Scottish football TV audiences are all about two tribes. Viewing figures become noticeable only when they meet.

Oh for an AZ Alkmaar, to bring drama to Celtic games from midtable.

The SPFL sell TV rights in an open and competitive market. It is absurd to bemoan the deal and not recognise the harsh fact that it was better than all others on offer.

It’s all clubs take up their five PPV options, some will be playing to a TV audience of hundreds, perhaps dozens.

But they died in 2012 – what’s that score got to do with sevco 🤔`

Of course they did but their support is still here and the Old Club`s record defeat still stands. So, you are right, nothing to do with Sevco but plenty to do with their supporters !

CQN has certainly seemed more like Rangers Quick News in recent times (Newco – New Company/Same Club) but strangely enough, despite that, I was asking about Celtic FC, on a site run by someone who is close to the club. The wider context being the lead article from yesterday re broadcasting rights. If you would like to make a useful contribution, as opposed to whatabootery, feel free to do so. Or better still, if you or anyone else on here has some detailed information (ie harsh facts) that would be more than welcome, given that is what I am interested in.

I think I answered – it’s about affordability for the BBC and the value of the product for ppv

I wasn`t indulging in whataboutery. I mistakenly thought you were talking of BBC bias in favour of Sevco and I was pointing out that I didn`t think that such was the case in the scenario you described.

I think Gene`s post provided the reason for the BBC`s choices in these particular games.

The AZ v Dundee Utd game was on Dutch tv, making it easier for bbc to piggy back presumably.

There is a broadcast hierarchy for Euro qualifiers and play-offs.

For Europa & Conference leagues Premier Sports have priority. If they don’t take a game, BBC can opt in.

For CL qualifiers, same as above.

For CL play-offs it’s BT Sport exclusively. BT Sport are contracted to broadcast CL play-offs involving any British club. In others words they must show it.

Interesting but speculative. Get back to me when you have the numbers to back it up. And confirmation from Celtic FC that the only criteria is how much will the BBC will offer against how many Celtic supporters will pay for Premium Sports. Ie potential audience reach is not an important factor for the PLC.

As wee Ron says on p2 our TV deals are totally wrapped up in what sky/bbc do in England.

Our game is only view through the prism they allow.

Tom, could you point me towards the UEFA – Premier Sports agreement that gives the latter precedence over National Broadcasters, in broadcasting Euro qualifiers. Interested to see the wording of the actual agreement.

For some reason I thought, that while BT Sports had exclusive broadcasting rights in the Euro Tournaments proper, until 2024, clubs could exercise control over their home games in qualifiers. Tom Mac suggests there is a hierarchy of broadcasters with Premier Sports next in line. Question, were we, Celtic FC forced to operate a PPV deal with Premier Sports in our previous Euro qualifiers. Dont think Sky have anything to do with UEFA.

It’s a mystery as to who exactly owns these guns that are screwed onto the giant dome that sits above us, just like dome/firmament that JESUS told us about when he said…

“THERE WILL BE LIGHT IN THE FIRMAMENT.”

That’s unless you think we live on a globe that spins at 66.6 million miles per second, minute, hour, or whatever guff is spun through the Masonic colonised curriculum?

Yeah, laser guns that fire invisible laser beams that burn down hundreds of food processing plants, destroy hundreds of homes but peripheral trees and greenery remained unaffected????

And MSM acts like dafties as if they’re mystified by it all…

    MSM…

“WE DON’T KNOW HOW THESE FIRES COME ABOUT. IT MUST BE GLOBAL WARMING??”

Global warming – becomes – “WE NEED CLIMATE CHANGE LOCKDOWN`S!” ??

    Climate Change = CC = 33* = Masonic hoax!!!

It’s simple really – who owns the banks, big tech, big, big pharma,100% of MSM, nasa, etc, etc, all politicians on this isle of Britain, apart from SINN FEIN in the 6 counties????

Answer that question and the pieces of the jigsaw fall into place.
