SPFL streaming services and fans exclusion from football

420

Having disposed of Celtic and AZ Alkmaar in earlier Conference League knockout rounds, Bodo/Glimt return to Rome tonight to face Roma (why we insist on calling the city one name and the club another, when they answer to exactly the same word is perplexing).  In November, on Europa League duty, they drew 2-2 with Roma, after defeating Jose Mourinho’s men 6-1 in Norway.

Our season that has already delivered so much, has European blots in August and February.  The defeats to Bodo/Glimt, in particular, were an indication of how much work still has to be done.  I would like to see the Norwegians go even deeper into the tournament, if only to offer a reflective glow on our own performance against them, but that feels too much like grasping for straws.

SPFL chief exec Neil Doncaster said he expected Pass to Paradise and other clubs’ streaming services to stop for domestic viewers from next season.  There remains a significant number of season ticket holders shielding and unable to congregate in large crowds.

The League is dependent on Sky TV’s largess here.  Sky changed the terms of their contract to permit Pass to Paradise-type services, a return to business as usual was always on the cards.  Before that happens, a Health Accommodation exclusion is worth exploring, especially now season ticket renewals have been issued.

I know one season ticket holder who has not attended since the socially distanced game against Dundee in August.  What happens next affects real people, real fans and their exclusion from football.

  1. I’ve always enjoyed Dhabba in the merchant city, although it’s been a while since I was there

Agree on the Ashoka and it’s not just the west end one, got a takeaway from Bearsden and it was inedible due to the spices

As long as we win on Saturday, I don’t care! It really is in our hands if we win on Sat. We will have Hearts , Hibs and Utd away probably. Need to win on Sat

Sadly not, not enough stake money on a Thursday for a decent double … funnily enough I had a both teams to score coupon on the 7 euro games apart fae Leicester (terrible price) …. When all teams had scored apart fae the Huns I cashed out … far less than what I might have won … but I would rather lose than hope they score …. Didn’t win a lot, enough for a wee bet tomorrow but it felt good that I would rather lose money than that mob score :-)

After tonight … I might invest a couple of quid for a much better priced Bodo / Braga double next Thursday

  4. CONEYBHOY.

Moussa just lacks a bit of pace to be a top class striker.

Viera has discovered that Edouard is lazy. Now third choice striker for Palace.

I haven’t seen a lot of Denayer, but he seems to play well for Belgium, and is faster than Starfelt.

I liked Ajer. One of the few who gave his all last year. Seems to be holding his place at Brentford, and I think he will get better yet.

I agree with you on Eddie. Big , energetic guys are way ahead of him and i think we got his best years.

I really can’t see the old Dembele but i hope you are right that he can kick on

I watched Danny Murphy destroy Ajer on MOTD earlier in the season ; same issues we had ; can’t jump, wrong side, tackling with wrong foot

I check every week to see if he is playing but only get glimpses on the highlights. I think he has improved but i still think we cashed in at the right point. He is unlikely to move for 50m

    Thank you.

Bad day for orcs when gvb won’t put him on at 1 down.

  7. Sevco have a liking for europe no doubt about that , big aggressive outfit but also carrying loads of luck . But more importantly we have games aplenty before we get our crown back , some of them won’t be walkovers by any means . Please just wait till we are past the post . We were looking for an easy three points against . St mirren , livi , Dundee Utd and for me worse of all against the hearts a game we should have won out the park but didn’t . So bhoys there are challenges there still to be won . It’s in our reach but not yet in our grasp . HH

  8. Coneybhoy – I honestly have not got a clue with this whole split thingy.

At present we have played 15 home 17 away.

Saturday will make it 16 home and 17 away.

If there is only 39 games there will be winners and losers regarding how many home and away games each team play.

I thought sport was meant to be about fairness. If not we know who will loose out…..US.

Anyway I hope I have confused you as much as I am…

  9. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

Leicester PSV 1st leg was 0-0 draw.

BT Sport’s designated touchline idiot with a mic just asked the PSV manager …

“How pleased are you with that point?”

    Cue perplexed look !!!

  10. Gene thanks for that, so we should have 3 home 2 away which would make 19 and 19.

    I wont hold my breath.

    Of course 38, what was I thinking 39 games…..Doh

If Hearts beat Hibs on Saturday the latter are unlikely to end up in top Six

  12. The concept of the high press, could not have reached into the Braga valley.Probably the worst exponents of it,I have witnessed. Two crap teams, lucky to be drawn together.Think they will go through.2 or 3 ,zero.

  13. !!Bada Bing!! on

Truly remarkable round from Tiger, probably up there with his wins, given the circumstances

  14. Celtic Mac – Cheers, I actually knew that but I’m a thicko.

Funnily enough the EPL recently proposed that they would play a 39th game, in NYC, Tokyo etc

    Proved a step too far

  16. Tell Big Jimmy to go and register on Sentinal Celts ,I go on there now and again it’s all down to opinions and sometimes the odd sweary word happens,

Is the New FFP rules a disaster or the godsend for servco ?

    —–

    Neither – they’re an irrelevance!

We’ve been saying this for a very very long time now but they always seem to keep going

I’m in total agreement with you they keep rolling along.

What I meant was that the FFP rules are neither disaster, nor, godsend, but are an irrelevance to the Ibrox club at this moment in time. Sorry if I was unclear earlier.

NOTTHEBUS – from earlier re Greg Taylor.

Don’t think anyone now faults his effort and improvement but sure, there are still some errors in his game.

As there is in Josip’s – and his led to their early goal, whereas Greg’s inconsistencies didn’t on this occasion.

Makes me wonder if we tend to scrutinise defenders more harshly than those in attacking roles – mibby cos when defenders stuff up, the consequences are more severe (goals lost!)

Listened to the Huddle Breakdown and the stat analysis showed our two hardest workers were Gia and Daizen – but neither scored and mistimed control, runs and moves on goal several times.

Naturally we’ll always look to upgrade our strangth on all positions; still wondering what’s the score with Scales and whether he’s an upgrade on Greg or just another Irish prospect that found the step up – just too steep.
