St Johnstone 0-2 Celtic

609

Celtic were always in control against St Johnstone in Perth this afternoon and deservedly picked up the three points although it took them almost an hour to open the scoring.  Gary Hooper knocked in a loose ball on 59 minutes before Ki Sung-Yeung finished off a sweeping Celtic brea five minutes later.

St Johnstone kept things tight early on and kept Celtic from creating a chance before Georgios Samaras created space for a shot which was saved well by Enckelman.  Celtic’s best move of the first half came after 31 minutes when Ki, Forrest and Brown combined to release Hooper.  The striker shot low and on target but Enckelman pulled off a remarkable save.

Both teams picked up the pace after half time but it was Mackay who created the first chance of the second period, forcing a save from Fraser Forster.  Cha DuRi twice crossed dangerously.  Firstly for Hooper, whose hooked effort from 4 yards was turned over by the impressive Enckelman.   James Forrest then turned a snatched chance over from Cha’s next effort.

Just before the hour Charlie Mulgrew dropped a corner into the six yard box which Victor Wanyama contested.  The ball dropped between a sea of St Johnstone legs but Hooper was onto it in a flash and prodded over.

The game was put beyond the home team five minutes later.  St Johnstone were awarded a free kick on the edge of the Celtic penalty area after Mulgrew was penalised for climbing.  The Celtic was stood strong and from the subsequence block James Forrest drove forward at pace.  Samaras returned a 1-2 to Forrest to drew Enckelman before squaring for the unmarked Ki.  The Saints’ keeper did well but could not prevent Ki’s shot from crossing the line.

Samaras mishit a shot after the impressive Cha again crossed to effect before the Greek striker ran 40 yards and had his shot blocked.

St Johnstone’s only real chance fo the game came when Wanyama slipped to let Haber close in on Forster but the keeper was equal to the shot.

  1. This Flemming guy at the SFA is a chancer, he knows Gollum has no scruples, expect the cheats to dive at every opportunity.

Disgusted with everything at the moment within the SPL, they cannot make it more obvious that they are corrupting the game to help those cheating swine.

Hoping we don’t pick up any more injuries, must be the worst season ever for the amount of them.

The cards are stacked against us on the 28th and i don’t mean football wise.

They can perform all the Mibbery they like, but we are already nine points clear of second-placed Motherwell and I’ve not even put that Christmas wreath on that front door yet.

Just about to get to it, dear.

  3. Snake, I normally agree with most of what you post but have to disagree somewhat today.

As Ernie Lynch has said, our board are very happy to lie down and have the support accused and blamed of crimes, it appears to suit their current agenda.

During the Huns UEFA cup run they displayed a banner stating “Nakamura Ate My Dog”, racist, offensive and culturally incorrect given that the Japanese have never been known for eating dogs. Nakamura Ate My Whale may have been more accurate. The point is there was no outrage in the laptop loyal, and the huns board or manager did not have to defend or debate their supporters comments.

Celtic should have appealed the original fine rather than lie down and accept it, I find it ironic that the amount charged by UEFA was a little less than Lawwell was reportedly willing to negotiate on to bring in Steven Fletcher in January 2009 -( a matter he finds worthy of joking about.) Had they appealed it the banner would likely not have happened.

The banner was crass and inappropriate, however have we all not done crass and inappropriate things when we are young and immature. Particularly when we see others, close to home, getting away with far worse behaviour and being backed by their owners and management. I am not suggesting that we should adopt the Huns attitude and blame everyone else, but I see no need for the manager to comment on this, does McCoist get questioned on the behaviour of their fans ? Did Smith get asked about them wrecking Manchester and attacking Villareal’s team bus.

For a kid to get a lifetime ban for this, when he had spent the best part of £500 to go and support his team, is disproportionate. Didn’t our esteemed former chairman, not once have a penchant for singing the odd rebel song ? Didn’t stop him becoming chairman of the club did it. Have newspapers reported how there was no trouble in the city, as Celtic and Udinese fans mingled together, as opposed to elsewhere when Italian teams meet teams from the UK. This news would not suit the agenda.

Next Wednesday our neighbours will come and visit again, we will take their money and allow them to sing whatever they want , Mr Lawwell will make no comment on their singing, and neither will Neil Lennon.

I’m also very upset about this, but I think it’s more than a couple of young lads who are letting us down at the moment.

  4. Am I the only person who finds the whole banner/flares/Uefa debate mind numbingly boring?

The people responsible are idiots, the club, whether you agree or not, did the only thing they could be seen to do, uefa will give us a small fine and a further slap on the wrists for the flare incident. Nothing will happen re. the banner.

The whole episode has been blown out of proportion by the laptop loyal, for obvious reasons, and the support have been sucked into perpetuating the fallout by arguing amongst themselves from entrenched positions that’ll not change.

Get over it and move on.

Willie Collum as referee next Wednesday, now there is something to start moaning about.

The Fraser Forster deal is done, negotiated and agreed. It is entirely up to Celtic if he stays, which I am sure he will now, well if Lennie stays that is.

I accept your argument but I still think that doing it so soon after that decision was madness and asking for trouble.

The real issue now is why the hell is that toad Collum getting the game (as if we don’t know). This should be the main topic now. A man whose background has been splashed over every paper while other referees get a degree of anonymity. We all know why and Collum will allow them away with everything. He hasn’t given a call against them since he sent off Miller for violent conduct 2 years ago and was accused of making up the reason for thered card by Sir Dignity himself.

    This is more immediately worrying.

    ……………..

So YOU don’t want to take the punishment? You want Celtic to take the punishment for you to be able to shout your mouth off!

Attention whore coming from you, who I’m starting to believe must be a Fifth Columnist, you’re the one screaming to be allowed to do what you want, where want and Celtic can take the consequences. You’re a pathetic little spoilt brat! If you were a Celtic supporter, the best interests of the club would be your only priority. But you are looking after the best interests of your club, but that club isn’t Celtic.

Willie Collum. Totally unbelievable. Anybody care to list his blunders? The guy is a complete and utter incompetent. We will need to be 6 times better than them.

I see the huns have Stevie McLean, their ex player Brian’s brother, as referee at St Mirren on Saturday, while we’ve got Alex’s brother, George Salmond for Killie at home. (OK, they might not be brothers on the biological sense, but were no doubt spawned in the same pool).

Come on you bhoys in green!

    Good post.

And I am really looking forward to seeing how the hun protection racket can get them off the hook legally here in the UK. Especially bearing in mind the UEFA CFC and the ECA´s admission to adherence to good governance. That former RFC Chairman John Mc Lelland still sits on the ECA board is an interesting angle. I cannot see them having enough power to dismantle all that has been proposed and set up previously just to save the hun. In fact the argument just to save the Scottish game I feel is not a strong enough argument. If they do manage however to wriggle free from their present situation then Celtic fans should spend their monies on their families or following a more respectful and honest pursuit if our custodians do not try and at least publicise it. If they sweep it under the carpet in the hope of maintaining their plc rather than the spirit and modus operandi of our club then the club as we know it will die also.

Everything else …. Songs, sweary words, poppies, identites, Neil Lennons judgement, The SFA , League competitions, Cup competitions, A possible treble for Neil Lennon …. James Forrest been sold to SPurs for 25million quid IS ALL A COMPLETE AND TOTAL IRRELEVANCE in teh grand scheme of things.

We should relax be acutely aware of what is happening around us and why. BE INTIMATELY AWARE AT HOW POOR OUR CUSTODIANS HAVE BEEN IN THE FACE OF THIS PROVOCATION ….support the players and Neil Lennon and support the club until D Day.

    When is D day ?

at the very very very latest … this time next year.

For what I do not know.

true, get it out there that The huns will be coming to be ‘pysical’and put the pressure on the ref to deal with it..also have his players warned about reacting, our disipline is good this season,it will need to be on 28th,Collum will let them boot Celtic off the park but one reaction will see us a man or goal down..
