Stinging response required

201

Last time Celtic were at Easter Road was a bit of a horror show.  Daizen Maeda was sent off, while Scott Bain failed to make the most of a rare start in goal as the hosts scored four.  The game meant nothing as the title was already won and Celtic were preparing for the Scottish Cup Final, but the scoreline should sting the players into a response tomorrow.

After a brutal elimination from the Europa Conference League against Aston Villa, Hibs went on a six-game unbeaten run, culminating in a draw at Tynecastle after being two goals down.  That form hit the skids at Ibrox last week, where they lost four without reply.

Adrenaline is still pumping from Wednesday night and legs will still be restoring energy levels after being depleted well before the end of the Atletico game.  Players are not machines, they cannot switch it on just because they want to.  Brendan Rodgers abilities will be called on today and before kick-off to make sure the performance is high enough.

I would like to see Tomoki Iwata, Gustaf Lagerbielke and Oh start.  Oh scored in that horror show in May; it would be a good place for him to pick up from and look to open his account for the season.

  1. Wednesday was superb, great football, spirit and support from the stands.

Am getting a different perspective now attending games as my daughter has recently started working at the Celtic Superstore so over early and at stadium well afer time up. After the game I stand near where players come out, don’t join in the photo and autograph hunters though am tempted. A few observations – Joe Hart was there for about 45 minutes at the Kilmarnock game and didn’t miss out anyone. Alistair Johnston was the same the other night even though he had family waiting for him – they’re not the only ones but great examples of supporter and player interaction which is nowhere near what it used to be like. Some players do walk straight through and others stop for a few moments but good to recognise those that are happy to stop and interact.

Agree, it’s all about our remaining three games against the big boys. Mid December onwards is the time to stick with the first team

Saturday, Wednesday, Saturday, Tuesday in Madrid means we need to find rest time but also, get some meaningful game minutes into the subs who will be essential in Madrid and shortly after in Rome.

Reos absence means we must keep the other midfielders out of the dreaded red zone. Another couple of injuries and we’ll be looking very short. A 7 point security blanket means we can take few risks. Noes the time to really see if Iwata and Holm can be relied on in the biggest games

Looking forward to the game tomorrow. Hibs are like ourselves and don’t really know how to pack it in. I always thought we might have been interested in Martin Boyle as I think he has always been a quality player. Wouldn’t change much tomorrow, and keep Bernardo in there as I felt he did well the other night.

  4. Celtic ‘X’ watch…….my new obsession.

956, 600 as of today. Gearing up for 1M followers soon given this trajectory. By comparison, we had 762k end of July.

Video from Wednesday’s Never Walk Alone hits 14m views. Mezut Ozil publicly thanking Celtic fans. etc etc…Sophie Corcoran, RW nutjob, hates us.

When UEFA fine us I expect that number to grow further as rumours of a fund raiser rise.

In the other corner sits a little band of old, grey-haired yesterday’s men who write long missives like it’s 1984, trying to change the club narrative and hoping to protect their careers in Switzerland…..

  6. Tom …well highlighted re Christmas fixtures …says it all …blatant bias. You can also bet at the year end split we will be similarly disadvantaged ..pernicious freemasonry at its best ..glad Brendan is starting to call this out ..as none of our cowardly board would dare to ( as they are probably in the same ludge ! ) ..maybe a Celtic podcast could take this on board and do some proper stats on this ?

I can’t wait to hear the response from the Lodge, I mean the SFA.

Glad our gaffer is calling it out, but hey it evens itself out over 8 years as we keep getting told.

I was there with my boy after the game the other night. It was a horrible night with the rain however that did not stop CalMac, MOR, GT, L Palma, CCV, AJ, JF, Bernardo and a few others to stop in the rain. However there were a few that blanked out the kids that surprised me. Liam Scales being one. I completely accept we the fans don’t own them and they may have somewhere to go and it was a horrible evening, however as Mr Stein once said “football without fans is nothing”. They should appreciate that those kids idolise them and it doesn’t take much to stop for a photo or sign a jersey, after all us fans pay a substantial part of their wages!!! Calum is a credit to our club and befitting of the captaincy, speaking to fans, its clear that he is so appreciative of what he has got at our wonderful club. My son did have the pleasure of having his photo (in the rain) with a certain Jim Craig, an absolute gentleman who took the time to speak with my boy even though his wife was probably hoping he’d get a move on!!! I said to my boy, its not every day you get to meet a European Cup Winner, he cant wait to bring the photo in to his Headmaster at school on Monday morning!!!

So you think today’s board is bad?

In 1986 Celtic were travelling to Ukraine to play Dynamo Kiev in the Champions League 2nd round 2nd leg, having drawn the 1st leg 1-1 at Celtic Park.

The Celtic board, chaired by Jack McGinn, refused to take any tickets for Celtic supporters due to it being the Soviet Union and all that entailed. Some supporters were talking about flying to Kiev regardless and buying tickets over there.

McGinn wrote in the Celtic View warning Celtic supporters not to travel. He even went as far as to say that he would be contacting the Soviet embassy for the names and addresses of any Celtic supporters requesting an entry visa. I kid you not.

I had a letter published in the Glasgow Herald — when it was a quality newspaper — absolutely ridiculing Jack McGinn for his absurd warning.

I painted a picture of him phoning the embassy of a closed and secretive society, demanding details of people from the west requesting visas to travel to the USSR. I suggested that such an idea was laughable and that he was insulting the intelligence of Celtic supporters by issuing such a pointless, bizarre and ultimately toothless threat.

I found out later from the Affiliation that McGinn was absolutely livid and that if I had been a season ticket holder at the time, it would have been cancelled.

Celtic went down 1-3 in Kiev.

Celtic supporter’s forums raised the question when the fixtures were announced in summer.

‘They’ used to blame it on ‘the computer’, it’s gross board negligence and disgusting to leave it to a football coach to complain. A board that allows Celtic supporters to buy into blatant cheating without question.

  14. Simeone after Wednesday night:

“I wasn’t surprised at all. I saw how well they played against Feyenoord and Lazio. In the second half they ran out of ideas a bit, but I was impressed with their speed and dynamism and their ability to move the ball forward at pace and create chances.”

Interesting comments from the manager at the end of his presser.

Assuming a 50/50 chance of playing home/away on boxing day i.e. the toss of a fair coin, the chances of throwing 7 consecutive heads or tails is 1 in 128.

    Hmmmmmmm😮

So Brendan speaks out against fixture manipulation and instead of criticising the SPFL, the usual suspects turn it on the board.

As far as I know, no board members hold regular press conferences. The manager does.

A member of the press corps raised the issue of the visit to Ross County being moved to Boxing Day for live TV. Brendan responded. If he hadn’t mentioned the 7 years, nobody on CQN would have known, but some are quick to blame the club.

No wonder the SFA & SPFL laugh at us and do what they like. They know the board will always get the blame.
