Strict liability when playing to gallery

2207

Being responsible is not always easy, especially when it comes to running a football club, where playing to the gallery offers vastly better short-term returns, and no doubt a rush of endorphins.

If your fans are engaged in an activity which regularly brings them to the attention of the courts, and your club into disrepute, it doesn’t matter what you think of the apparent offense.  You may chant an offending song in the shower every morning month, but your only public comment on the matter can be to chastise and urge fans to desist.

Clubs in Scotland voted against what is known as strict liability.  This means they are not held responsible for transgressions by their fans – and who wants to be held responsible for the actions of others who protected from personal liability by hiding in a crowd.

Part of the deal on not having strict liability is that clubs must demonstrate that they take all steps necessary to dissuade and educate their fans from carrying out criminal or regulatory offenses.  It’s simply not possible for club to tell fans their illegal actions were justified, as this would place the club itself in the firing line.

The nonsense following the Scottish Cup final is all background noise as far as we are concerned, but be aware the contagion will spread beyond those you could consider highly dysfunctional operators.

Solving Kids Cancer in memory of Oscar Knox

Our own Bundoran Bhoy will run the Edinburgh Marathon on Sunday on behalf of Solving Kids Cancer.  He has put in an enormous amount of work ahead of the event, for a cause which you are only too familiar with.

26 miles is a long way to run.  You can give him some encouragement on his Just Giving page.

Good luck, Tommy.

Yes. Struggling to master the notes is one thing, but guitarists of Martin’s level have a subtlety and feeling which can’t be learned.

I once had a rabid hun neighbour….no love lost there, fisticuffs a few times:)

For some reason, when i used to play ‘The Gold Ring’ by Willie Clancy…..full blast i may add.

It would totally enrage him…he would come out into the street, shouting and bawling.

    Cracked me right up.

If you listen to that disc….they will quickly see why:)

It is so sublime that it can enrage a bigot, and no need for words:)

I defy anyone to play that album, and not be deeply touched by it.

Its beyond my understanding of music.

I watched Martin on YT explain how ‘The Plains of Waterloo’ is played

    The tuning itself is wild.

    Its just astounding playing.

Ive seen hundreds of guitarists live.

He is one of the very best.

Every time WC posts I am scared it’s going to get removed and leave us all in suspense

Have Sevco not been punished enough, they now have to play by the rules, well, the financial rules, which means spending what you can afford …..

Still not sure who is paying Joey Barton, but also don’t really care

Celtic, THEM, Dundee and Dumbarton yesterday featured in a Sunday Herald article on off shore investment in Scottish Football.

    Dumbarton ?

Am intrigued, away to try and find said article

To be fair, that article merely highlighted the fact that the clubs have non-UK shareholders.

How much of our shares are owned by Irish investors alone? And not just the big ones, the “little guys” as well who bought their shares back in the day.

The use of the term “off-shore” was deliberately pejorative, based on the current climate of suspicion in this regard.

Cheers, enjoyed reading that, Liberty Capital and the old Magarita Holdings, glad it mentioned Celtic and transparency due to Plc status, wonder whatever happened to that Ticketus mob :-)

I made no comment on content of article.

Only reason I mentioned it was because over the last few months, CQN posters have been wondering where THEIR money has been coming from.

Like GERRYFAETHEBRIG , I found Dumbarton’s inclusion surprising.

Personally thought the best part was the excellent photo of Dumbarton’s stadium.

  10. Grumpy old(ish) Man mode …

Talking of RB’s and talent management.

How much did we pay for SJ?

There is talk of £1mill …

    Surely not.

If we did then PL needs shot.

Or is it a kitchen sink number to cover his wages as well?

Just a case that the £1mill number should be chased.

    Sloppy PR and sloppy reporting.

Then there is Iceland at the Euros on a population of 330K.

Our national performance is shocking in that context.

Then you get the Icelandic set up.

Football house — full sized indoor pitches — seemingly 7 at the moment.

So the physicals are covered and then there is the coaching staff — talk of 500 plus poss 800 plus.

Very limited team structure but full on youth U20 development structure.

Population of 330K points to 2/3K in each boys age group.

That is half the population of 1980’s Glasgow.

That is less than the population of Lanarkshire.

Yet they succeed where we fail.

    Something has to change.

I mean everything has to change.

From youth coaching to structural engineering.

Every indoor pitch in Scotland looks and costs like the ego trip to structural engineering that it is.

Consequently we have far too few of them — we should have 73 in Scotland.

    One for every Holyrood constituency.

And what do we have — 4 / 5? — one built every two years?

Yet we expect 8 year olds to run about in horizontal rain in November and March?

Who are trying to develop — Bear Grylls?

  11. Happy Memorial Day to all USA based Celts and thank you for your service to those that have served.

Tinytim, don’t know if you saw Clogher Celts great post from the

clan Donald Heritage site that explained about the fenian

cycle and the warriors called Fianna as you have stated on a later

post to me thank you both for that.

On further research into the clan Donald i discovered to my great

surprise that our family name is linked as a Sept of the clan

meaning they came under the protection of the clan as long as

they backed them up in times of hostility, so it looks as if the

Thought about staying in the standing section, but realised I was sore just waiting in the queue for 40 minutes. So moved to 108 row cc, can’t remember the seat number, but not too far from where I was. More expensive, but I got it army old ST price for first year.
