Strong message from Supporters Association

926

Running late today…….

The Celtic Supporters Association are in their seventh decade so have seen it all before, albeit the matters the felt necessary to comment on today are uncommon in modern times.  After their AGM yesterday they issued the following statement:

“We do not condone in any circumstances the letting off of smoke devices of any kind, the dangers to the health of our supporters should at all times be paramount in everybody’s thoughts. We have quite a number of members who are of the senior variety, and the dangers to anyone with respiratory problems are greatly increased by coming into contact with smoke.

We also do not condone the use of pyrotechnics of any kind; again the dangers to our own supporter’s health should be paramount at all times.

Finally, the deliberate damaging of property within any stadium is not acceptable, and leaves a stain on the great reputation of the Celtic Support. The seats that were broken at Fir Park was blatant vandalism; nothing else.”

I share Association president Joe O’Rourke’s hope that this is a watershed moment for the support, but most of us know at least one person who thrives on chaos and notoriety.   We need as many strong voices to step forward as possible, someone with experience of putting genies back in bottles would be handy too.

Many thanks to those who participated in our Cinc Senti’s auction, which closed yesterday, raising £102 for charity.  More on where the money will be going later in the week……..

“Yes those were the days, when you didn’t reach for your laptop, phone or tablet or whatever to see what you had missed in terms of things Celtic. Those days when, unless you were from east Kilbride, you had no idea what the eather was like there— and to be honest, you had absolutely no interest in finding out!….. Back to the days when you had never heard of Kojo and his way of speaking or writing, when no one had ever Brattbakkedinanager, would recognise a cash strapped scrofulous hillbilly outside Beverley Hills, and the only Battered Bunnet you knew of belonged to your Grandad.”

  1. Posted my thoughts circa 24 hours after Friday night’s events – my opinion has not changed despite; argument and counter-argument. A group of insidious individuals (in the away end) besmirched the good name of Celtic F.C.

The closing paragraph of my previous post: This alarming demonstration of wanton hooliganism, belligerence and lack of respect for my Club’s name (whoever the perpetrators are) has to be eradicated. What’s the answer? Maybe its time for us (the Support) to make a stand (as we’ve done in the past) and nip this in the bud, otherwise it will fester and we the Celtic Support will be the longterm losers.

Not really interested whether there was; one, twenty-seven or 127 seats damaged – it happened! One, two or 102 pyrotechnics, makes no difference how many – inappropriate, illegal and dangerous! Not interested that; stewards, police or MFC failed to; control, diffuse or act appropriately. Not in the least interested in the excuse – but others do it/ have done it!

Thanks to a bunch of Neds/ Nerds – the good name of the Celtic Support has been; castigated, pilloried and has given the MSM an absolute field-day to ‘front-page’ our Club’s embarrassment while Rome burns (or to put it in context – Govan/ Hampden and the cabal that runs them).

I’m off to Barcelona tomorrow – should I be bothered (or packing my case)? Meeting 3 top posters and the son of a CQN raconteur – think we all booked when it was about being there (before we worried about the results). Why is this relevant to my post about Friday night’s shameful events?

We travel without tickets. I asked the Agent for the flat we are staying in – ‘can you help us with 3 tickets? – No problem you Celtic Supporters are great people – we are happy to help – it’s a pleasure to have you visit the Camp Nou.’ Sorted!

Oldtim gets let down and I email the Agent – can you get me another 2? ‘No problem – I have a friend who will be glad to let you have his 2 tickets – we are happy that you will be sitting among the Barca fans – enjoy the game my friends!’

Never met the guy – but you know what? He kind of likes our Club and its Support and what we represent and most importantly how we behave/ interface when we travel away.

Not a first for me – have sat in the main stands at; Blackburn, Liverpool, Copenhagen – mixed and enjoyed the company of opposition support throughout Europe – 4 of us even sat in the North Bank at the Arsenal v Real Madrid CL ¼ finals.

Why the ramble/ rant? Well no matter where I have travelled – the good name of Celtic F.C. has always preceded me. I want that maintained – I expect many others are proud of our name and guard it jealously. Time to reclaim the good name of CFC back from the impostors!

Hi. Just read that – thanks.

Someone, not sure who, posted asking how many thought the banner (BS & WW) was ‘bad news’ until there was a media furore about it.

At the game my mates and I all though something along the lines of “That’s clever, they can’t really give them a hard time for that”. We were wrong about that (though I never appreciated the UEFA rule about politics, or that there had been discussions with PL, which the GB confirmed).

I guess I just see it as two distinct issues.

  8. With all the furore over Friday does anyone have a concern of us competing in a league outwifh Scotland?

Things are bad enough here with all we have to endure on and off the park but I believe they would be a whole lot worse down south or god forbid, in an Atlantic league (Amsterdam!). Better the devil you know!

I just sense times have changed with hooligans better organised and less tolerance being shown by authorities when it comes to crowd control.

As much as we have an outstanding reputation vitually everywhere we go, I’d much rather stay here, stay safe and win the league every year.

  10. Just been reading back. We are beginning to sound like huns.

It was infiltrators among the Celtic support who caused trouble at Fir Park.

The MSM are out to get us.

The Celtic board are out to get us.

    Just listen to yourselves.

I supported the GB when Celtic decided to close section 111 and was delighted when the decision was reversed.

I personally had no problem with the banners at the Milan game, but knew it meant trouble because it was against the rules.

Now we have all this nonsense about it being everyone else’s fault. The MSM forced the fans to take flares and smoke bombs to Fir Park.

Peter Lawwell told them to smash up the seats.

In any case it shouldn’t have been reported. It should’ve been hushed up. The MSM are out to get us by reporting it.

    It’s just not fair.

As I said . . . hunnish behaviour and hunnish defence of hunnish behaviour.

    ——

The club have banned/suspended 128 people without evidence.

  17. The best thing the club could do was to act swiftly. The action they have taken is clever. It would appear a number of potential suspects have been identified and will now have to make a case for their ongoing admittance to Celtic games. Wrong place, wrong time for some of them, which is really unfortunate, but this action will likely get rid of some of the guilty suspects while sending the right message out to all fans. We cannot tolerate this behavior at Celtic games.

  24. Sometimes, I have to listen to fashion trends presentations. My understanding is very, very limited, but I quite like it when they tell you what colours will be big well in advance of the season in question (powdery pastels, especially pinks, blues and yellows for spring-summer 2015, the year after next; you heard it here first). Most of the time, these folks sound like they live on a different planet.

Their skill is being able to interpret the mood of the crowd before the crowd itself knows what it is. They can tell from what they see in a theatre audience, a building design, a popular song, a million things. They pick up messages: “some folks see things not everybody can see”, as Steve Earle puts it.

Anyway, all this business of the behaviour of football crowds taking a turn for the uglier. Winningemmell predicted it about four years ago. That bhoy is a prophet, even if it brings him no profit.

First up the club have already stated via the fans liaison officer that all those with valid tickets for Wednesday will get entry.

Second let’s assume that the 128 are known by their seat details allocated for the Motherwell game, otherwise why not suspend the whole section. When you receive a ticket for any game you take responsibility for that seat and the actions of whoever is in it. That’s the black and white, by the book version. The club knows that’s not how it always works out, especially for away games. That’s why those individuals are suspended and not immediately banned for life.

I’d not be even remotely surprised if they’re all all the game on Saturday.

  28. Evening Gents

It’s a shame it’s come to this but we have an element in our support (mostly teens by the look of it) who think that by purchasing a ticket they can behave any way they want.

I’ve been pretty drunk at games before but it has never occured to me to break seats, intimidate those around me or play with matches.

Their total disregard for the reputation of our club and the the lack of respect shown for other supporters renders them isolated. We cannot accept this.
