Stunning charity effort by Celtic fans

936

A big well done to everyone who participated in the efforts to send Vanessa Riddle to Philadelphia for crucial medical treatment.  The £500k required was raised yesterday.

Brogan Rogan’ brought the issue to the blog and Taggsybhoy arranged the CQN Music Quiz earlier this month, our first formal activity for Vanessa.  Penfold gave us a signed Celtic top at the quiz which raised an incredible £5000 on eBay (plus gift aid) from a Celtic fan who, quite simply, gets what following this club is all about.

Not only did he pay £5000 but he told us to keep the shirt and use it again!  We then raffled the shirt on eBay and raised almost £1400.  You are all part of an incredible story by an incredible support.

The draw for the signed shirt took place at Uefa headquarters in Nyon, you can watch the video of below and find out if you won.

Our thanks again to Andrew in Belfast for his tireless help with the site this week.  The new ‘whyte’ template is in place and we’ll continue to restore functionality.

Wow. Gobsmacked. Ill be honest, I just could not imagine that Vanessa’s appeal would reach the target so soon.

Brogan, Rogan….. you call to arms is a testimony to your belief in a community whose extraordinary generosity continues to astound.

That’s more or less what your European Examiner quote said: it would be fairer to add “Hell mend them All”. BTW what they’ve been doing is NOT gerrymandering – everyone here should know what that means.

  3. That truly is an ‘Astounded of Forehead’ effort. Well done to all involved.

    BRT&H take a CQN bow.

Still grinds that this sort off fund raising activity is required in this day and age when our government is happy to splash the cash on bullets and bombs to fight illegal occupations around the world. Money that should be better spent helping people survive rather than to kill and maim.

That said my best wishes to Vanessa with trip to America and fingers crossed for a successful treatment.

    Hail! Hail!

  4. A fantastic effort by the Celtic family, it truely is what this club is all about.

All thoughts now with Vanessa, here’s hoping the treatment she will now receive is a huge success.

Bhoys I have a ridiculous and unrealistic favour to ask but “if you don’t ask, you don’t get” I am looking for a ticket for Ibrox. I can get one from a buses usually but nobody can help this time for obvious reasons. I have managed a few away days this year but with the bambino it is increasingly difficult. My birthday is 26th March so would be a lovely way to celebrate. CQN is not a begging charity case but if anyone is well connected please let me know, as I say, I know its unrealistic but Cheers anyway HH

Ki is on his way back from South Korea. Wasn’t “match fit” I think isthe verdict. This happened before when the South Koreans insisted that he travel even Celtic and the player believed he was unfit.

  11. They seriously think we will give them £300,000 up front?

United have been contacted by accountants Paul Clark and David Whitehouse to work out a timetable for paying.

The Tangerines will receive most of the cash due before the match with the outstanding balance being released from the administrators’ own bank account 72 hours later.

Clark and Whitehouse have a legal duty to ensure that all bills are paid so are working with clubs to resolve ticketing issues.

It is understood Motherwell will receive a similar offer before their match on March 31.

A United spokesman confirmed they have reached an agreement with Duff and Phelps, saying: ”We have had positive discussions with Rangers’ administrators about tickets for the game on March 17. We are comfortable with the situation and are looking forward to the game.”

No announcements from admins who should be trying to encourage cashflow…..MMMMMMM. The more they leave it closer to the weekend, the more desperate it is.

If I was cynical and paranoid, I’d expect hunmageddon to arrive at the time of the next Celtic v Evils game. The tickets issue will be used to blame Celtic for their failed finance.

If you know the way this works, you know this is a reality.

How the “authorities” deal with this is the big question. To be fair to the Celtic Board, these are tricky stages.

  20. Afternoon all – liking the new layout. Was on the Fishul Website there, and saw this wee snippet on their “Leap Year” feature:

    2004

    Celtic 5-1 Livingston

Celtic’s were in action on February 29 four years ago when they crushed Livingston 5-1. Stephen Pearson gave the Celts a 12th minute lead before Chris Sutton doubled the lead on 36 minutes. Livi pulled a goal back before half-time but second-half goals from Henrik Larsson and an Alan Thompson double, including one from the penalty spot, gave the Hoops an impressive victory on their march to winning the SPL title. John Kennedy and Bobo Balde remains the only players from that game who are still at Celtic, both of whom made up the central defensive partnership for that game.

Surely big Bobo isn’t on the wages still, or am I reading it wrong??! :-)

I think you’re reading it wrong. If 2004 is 4 years ago, then this is 2008 and Bobo is still here.

  25. As we all know, Celtic are correct to keep a hold of all ticket money – just in case they don’t make it to 25/3, leaving Celtic to refund fans or worse 8000 Celtic fans out of pocket.

Celtic could, as a gesture of goodwill, place the money into a lawyers account for release to the huns on the “first whistle is blown” (I’ve heard is a popular phrase around CP.
