Stunning charity effort by Celtic fans

936

A big well done to everyone who participated in the efforts to send Vanessa Riddle to Philadelphia for crucial medical treatment.  The £500k required was raised yesterday.

Brogan Rogan’ brought the issue to the blog and Taggsybhoy arranged the CQN Music Quiz earlier this month, our first formal activity for Vanessa.  Penfold gave us a signed Celtic top at the quiz which raised an incredible £5000 on eBay (plus gift aid) from a Celtic fan who, quite simply, gets what following this club is all about.

Not only did he pay £5000 but he told us to keep the shirt and use it again!  We then raffled the shirt on eBay and raised almost £1400.  You are all part of an incredible story by an incredible support.

The draw for the signed shirt took place at Uefa headquarters in Nyon, you can watch the video of below and find out if you won.

Our thanks again to Andrew in Belfast for his tireless help with the site this week.  The new ‘whyte’ template is in place and we’ll continue to restore functionality.

If I was cynical and paranoid, I’d expect hunmageddon to arrive at the time of the next Celtic v Evils game. The tickets issue will be used to blame Celtic for their failed finance.

FFM, I wouldn’t blame Celtic, I would thank them, sure you would too.

  3. I don’t know much about how administration works, but shouldn’t there be some sort of movement from Ibrokes, so far discounting the (no great) loss of Gordon Smith and Ali Russell all they seem to have done is try to sign up another player in Daniel Cousin. Maybe it’s just me.

    Agree.. Re redundancies.. Why wait?

I’m reckoning Papac, Davis , McGregor , Aluko, Naismith, Whittaker all saleable.. A factor in dispensing with contracts will be ones who could bring in a few bob..?

Players being away on international duty may well be why no redundancies are being announced today. Papac has already said today he doesn’t expect a new contract. I thought the 14 day rule meant the redundancies have to happen today, but I doubt there is any requirement they have to be announced.

Nope, I want our name kept out of this. The whole of the hunnannigans to date has been their own doing.

If this “event” happens when we “play” them next, they will do their best to drag our name down with them. It’s what they do.

How do the administrators go about making redundancies at the parent group that isn’t in administration?

Fair point, maybe watching from a distance is best.

I’m not sure how much flack Rangers took for putting Airdrie out of business though. I think I’d quite enjoy it if we put them down

    Well observed imo.

The hunnaniigans are being kept under wraps.

But I don’t blame them. There are people there just trying to do a job.

Any news needs a name with this crowd, and that name will be first on their “envelopes with nails sticking out” list.

I want to see Donald Findlay QC being lifted and interrogated about this anyway, He’s just so…charming…and quintessential.

Cultsbhoy, aluko and papac saleable? They are both out if contract in summer. Both aren’t assets and should be let go. Naismith won’t be fit until October so earliest a team will buy him will be January 2013.

Great to see that photo of St. Bridget’s. I remember you, Tommy and Tommy Johnston well. I also recognise the other two boys but I’m struggling to remember their names. Do you know them?

You’re looking very well in your photograph – healthy and fit! I’m amazed to see you’re down in Marlow area. My brother-in-law lives in Maidenhead and when my wife and I visit we often go into Marlow for a walk along the banks of the Thames. We went down last summer for their 30th Wedding anniversary and stayed in Cookham for a few days. Lovely part of the world. I believe another one of the ex St. Bridget’s team lives in Maidenhead – Raymond Brown.

Agent Whyte’s hasty exit would suggest that this is all going to be over sooner rather than later.

  23. There’s a peculiar article on the Evening Times online by a Rachel Loxton claiming that Smith had no hesitation in managing a Rangers side when he heard it would help raise money in their hour of need, although to my knowledge he was in line to do this anyway for charity. There are some excellent comments on the money being diverted from charities and the ‘Gers position on this. However, some guy from Bearsden thinks it might be “a bit immoral.”

A bit immoral! Help ma boab, as Thompson’s Post might say.

why would Whyte leave the money in the lawyers account ? would it not make more sense for them to have moved it into one of his no doubt myriad of accounts/companies ?

To be fair, the jelly and ice-cream thing was ill-advised.

Given the timescale of this situation.

The person responsible should be made to stand on a 3000ft high cherry picker, and eat his ice cream and jelly in front of a “packed” Ibrox stadium on the day they experience their “exstinction event”, shouting down a radio mic, ” The big house MUST stay open” Tis the bottom line don’t you know. :)))))))))))))))))

We have a whole army of ice cream aficionados expert in the bewildering variety of flavours, brands, recipes, Sorbets, gelatos, cones etc…this past month has been a crash course education on the subject of ice cream…but the proof is in the tasting.
