Support and paradoxical intent

594

I suppose it is inevitable, this far into a period of domination, that draws and defeats attract disproportionate criticism.  We are not used to defeats, recently we have not even been used to a season without a treble, so reactions to dropping five points in a week have few reference points.

In the social media era, players are not immune to what is being said about them, some of them no doubt reflecting on years of successful service behind them, who perhaps feel deserted when the call was made.

I know what you’re thinking, this is classic paradoxical intent.  We react to that which makes us anxious in a way that can only increase our anxiety.

Neil Lennon is dealing with the absence of Forrest, Edouard, Johnston, Jullien, Bitton, Elhamed and Barkas, and easing the return to fitness of Ajeti, Christie and Griffiths, while hurting at some painful results.

We travel to France tomorrow then back in the early hours of Friday before it all goes on the line, again, at Hampden on Sunday.  All while Aberdeen rest and prepare.  In these circumstances, this is a tough ask.  Tougher still without support, and I don’t mean supporters, I mean actual support.  This is a no-brainer time, circle the wagons and get back to doing what we always do.

  1. Excitement building again for tomorrow’s game. I kind of like it when we’re not fancied. Having said that, one Our Father, ten Hail Mary’s and a Glory Be to The Father. 🙏🏻

HT, seriously, not worth being in this room, the blog gets worst in content by the week,

When we used to be crazy mental arguing celtic supporters on a quiz and music filled friday night each with an underlying connections and charitable aims from the foundation of the club, like you , vinny, danny, mouldy, that roller coaster fella, that BRTH guy, the golfer in carnoustie, the VFR guy in denniston, the kano club, vannesa , oscar knox, wee jay

I’ve never been a fan of Lenny as a coach, I don’t rate any manager who’s on record as saying that they believe tactics are overrated.

However, operation Stop the 10 is on, he won’t walk and he won’t be sacked so it’s time to circle the wagons and unleash hell!

    …………………

I was opposed to Lenny’s appointment at the time. Nothing personal. I saw what Rodgers offered and while it wasn’t perfect, it was miles better in terms of professionalism. I wanted something similar. I’m now too entrenched in my views. I heard him say that he didn’t think tactics were important and how he leaves that to the coaches. Didn’t bother too much about team shape either. I nearly collapsed when I heard it.

You’re right about him not quitting but they will sack him if the current situation continues. That’s a given.

However, it’s Celtic I support and I’ll be supporting them like I always do and always have done. I’ll be shouting at the telly like everyone else on here.

    Hope you’re doing well.

  9. My friends in Celtic,

Forget the bookies, they do not have any emotional attachment.

What is more poignant is that most on here and probably Celtic fans in general think we are going into another game with the expectation to get beaten.

    Damage limitation some have suggested.

Now tell me we have not regressed.

    Anyway. COYBIG.

  10. DAVID66…

I wish you and your good lady well, and hope that you will all be okay.

I would be breaking the Scot Govt Rules IF I travelled from Glasgow to Edinburgh or anywhere outside of the Central belt etc….and yet Celtic Staff and Players have headed to France which is about to go into FULL Lockdown in the next 36 hours or so ???

I wish Celtic FC and/or the Scot Govt INSTRUCTED the Celtic staff and players to come back immediately…Feck the Europa League !

Just give Lille the 3 Points….its NOT worth hanging around in France.

Celtic FC are an Employer….whats to stop any member of staff and/or player catching Covid while being in France…and then accusing Celtic FC of NOT Protecting their staff ?

We were Fined because of the behaviour of Boli…Whats to stop the Scot Govt Fining Celtic again for entering a country thats about to go into FULL Lockdown ?

i just dont get this ???

    HH.

  11. RE..JAMES FORREST…

I tend to read most of what James Posts….whether I choose to believe any of it is entirely up to me.

He may well much more “Informed” about the workings of Celtic FC than I am, and what MAY being happening behind closed doors, or what is NOT happening behind closed doors than I ever would, but again its up to ME to decide what I wish to read and/or believe.

His views and opinions MAY or May Not be more viable than many others…I really dont know ?

If James Forrest is being paid for the hours he puts in in relation to Celtic FC, then good luck to him. Some or MANY may disagree with me, but No one is FORCING them to read James’s stuff, or indeed Pay to read it.

Just my opinion Bhoys and Ghirls.

    HH.

  12. Big Jimmy, good point ! However she didn’t fine her msp for travailing with the virus knowing she had it !

  13. Big Jimmy,

If North Lanarkshire is in Tier 4 should we expect any teams to travel there, or vice versa ?

We play Motherwell on the 8th of November.

    Cheers and HH.

  14. Likewise, If I choose to read Paul67 headings the same applies…I MAY agree or Disagree with what he writes sometimes…again… I am Big enough and Ugly enough to decide what I chose to read and/or agree with ?

Having said that, there are Three or Four Posters on here that I just simply scroll by and usually refuse to read anything that they have Posted, as they come across as “Know it Alls”, who have a Feckin view on EVERYTHING….But they are Serial Attention Seekers…and best ignored in my opinion.

There are also One or Two who like to “Flit” between here and SC who Post nothing but absolute CRAP, but its the VERY SAME CRAP that hey have Posted for a few years now, simply because they have nothing viable to say, especially about Celtic…and will BORE Everyone else to Feck on here .

I cant “Name…Names” cos of the risk of being Banned from here…but I get annoyed with certain Chumps who Post this same Crap time after time, and then see maybe One or Two other Posters ( who for some reason ?), actually respond and converse with those attention seeking Chumps, maybe UNWITTINGLY not realising that they are now in direct contact with these Attention Seeking Chumps, who wouldnt know if Celtic and/or The IRA bit them on the arse.

My wee Rant over…for now LOL

Cheers Bhoys…I am just totally confused about all of this…having said that… I can get Confused quite easily now and then LOL ?

I REALLY do wish Celtic FC would just bring our Bhoys home…NOW !

Feck the Europa League….for this season at least.

    HH.

  16. 100% agree regarding the travelling for fixtures club or country – it is plainly ridiculous and flys in the face of everything else we are being told.

The so called bubbles is SAFER but not safe as the multitudes of positive tests across football and other sports have shown.

It is arrogance in the extreme from UEFA and FIFA that their comps much go on regardless of the risks involved – it’s all about £££ and their commercial contracts.

Greed and arrogance is a dangerous combo

  17. I could murder 12/15 Pints of Beer right now !

In THEORY….anyone can go to a Cafe in Scotland and can sit in and have 12/15 Cups of Tea/Coffee….why cant I go to my local Pub..or any Pub ?.

I know for fact that my mate who owns my Local Pub has had to speak to One or Two Regulars in recent months about visiting other Pubs, while having drinks in his Pub, and leaving for an Hour or so, and to go to other Bars, and then RETURNING to his Pub for more Drink.

He has warned some Regulars that he will REFUSE to serve them, IF he knows that they are more or less doing a Mini Pub Crawl.

Again IN THEORY….Whats to stop me or anyone in the Central belt visiting 3 or 4 Different cafes on the same day…Would THOSE Cafe owners/Staff be refusing such customers…Somehow, I dont think so !

My Pub Landlord has tried to keep his Customers safe.

is it true that pubs MAY be allowed to re open and then close at 6pm…but MUST not sell Alcohol ?

    Thats Feckin Barmy imho.

  18. Morning Bhoys, lets all hope we can put up a performance tonight in France. Anyway as this weekend was supposed to be CQN Open weekend for us bhoys in Aberdour (which has unfortunately been cancelled) the Dunblane bhoys will be travelling to Machrihanish to take on the Dunes (Friday) and Machrihanish itself (Saturday). Anyone got any tips for either course????

  19. Good morning all from a dry at the moment Garngad

Big Jimmy – thanks, its wait and see time.

Hutchybhoy – take plenty of golf balls, I played the 2 courses a couple of years ago and it was hard going for a novice gowfer like me who played off 28 😉😉😉 .

Being 53 now and not hit a ball since then due to various health issues and being a lazy bar steward, years ago I did play off 12.

The guys were not happy as I had not played for a few years and turned up claiming a 28.

So I found the courses quite difficult, the rough is feckin rough alright and because you do not know the courses you do not really know where the hoke is over every feckin hill and around every corner.

That said the company and bevvy was greeeeaaaat.

    Are you flying ?

    Enjoy

    D :)

  20. Hole not hoke 😂 maybe that’s how I could not find the hole…story of my life🤪

    D :)

  21. Big Jimmy,

Open Pubs to 18.00 hrs, but don’t sell alcohol.

This is ludicrous and the science / statistics behind this must be open to all. Failure to do so will increase resentment and fuel the flames of an underlying agenda at play.

“A pub, or public house, is an establishment licensed to serve alcoholic drinks for consumption on the premises. The term public house first appeared in the late 17th century, and was used to differentiate private houses from those which were, quite literally, open to the public as ‘alehouses’, ‘taverns’ and ‘inns’.”

    Cheers and HH.

  22. Good morning, friends and Happy Matchday from a dry but grey East Kilbride. nervous about tonight’s game but as ALWAYS I’m looking forward to seeing The Champions play. I’ll be happy if we are ‘still in the game’ at the 75 minute mark. HH

  23. Game tonight. I have no expectations. Just everyone come back fit and healthy.

Though signs of improved play and even some excitement as with the Milan game would be welcome.

  24. I’m going to contradict myself a bit for tonight. I’ve always argued against the idea that it’s the result that only matters. After scraping lots of late wins, I said for weeks that bad performances will eventually be found out and results will follow when the quality of opposition steps up.

However, tonight a result will be massive. Lille are a quality side and better than many in the CL. I think a backs-to-the-wall, fortune favours the brave type smash and grab like Lazio would be a massive boost to the club going forward. Something that can silence some doubters and kick-start our season.

For those who say these games don’t matter, let’s see the reaction if we get thumped then tell me it doesn’t matter.

  25. DAVID66- Thanks

No, we’re leaving about 6am to make a 1100 tee time. Got a couple of caddies booked for the Dunes so that should hopefully help with directions from the tee!! Just hoping/praying our hotel in Campbeltown is able to serve us alcohol when we get off the course :-)……. Fingers Crossed

    ……….

Allow me to give you my “Expectation” about Tonights game…and my ” Reactions” right now.

I believe ( Sadly) that we will be beaten by Lille ( I hope I am wrong ?), IF we get Totally Humped by a few etc( I hope I am wrong ? )…I will be disappointed, but happy to look forward beyond this Europa league Crap, to our next game against Aberdeen in the Cup.

My MAIN concern is NOT whether get get beat/humped etc….but the Wefare of the staff and Players of Celtic FC…who hopefully will arrive back in Glasgow..Covid FREE ?

Dont forget, this Covid threat is NOT just whether someone from Celtic actually catches it, but it ALSO a possible problem for our Domestic games, IF after Tonights game ANY of the Lille staff/Team Test Positive and the implications that MAY have for anyone connected with Celtic and being FORCED top self isolate, DESPITE Testing Negative ?

FFS..Just look at the treatment that has been dished out to Ryan Christie, DESPITE Testing Negative on a few occasions apparently ? celtiuc had to do without his services for what..Two games ? it doesnt matter whether you like or dislike a any Celtic player, Ryan Christie was DENIED his Legal Right to Work !

Would I also be correct in wondering where the Feck were the Scottish Players Union in that Covid Farce…One of THEIR Members was wrongly denied the “Right to Work”, and yet that Hun Frasier Wishart and his cohorts never opened their mouth in support of Ryan Christie !

“This is ludicrous and the science / statistics behind this must be open to all.”

I agree that it SEEMS `ludicrous` but if the ` science / statistics behind this ` are not open to all, then we don`t really know if it is ludicrous.

I`m sure the s&s are open to all but as one who won`t be going to the pub anyway until matters improve, I am not enthused enough to search t`Internet.

PS Re Lille. Again I agree. For Celtic and to coin a phrase: All Games Matter :-)

Hardly comparable, unless Celtic players and staff are coming into contact with French residents on a daily basis.

It’s about reducing risk wherever possible.

Travelling to France to play football on the eve of them going into lockdown is risky behaviour.

  29. A Draw or Win Tonight for the Celts would be most welcome…obviously.

The LAST thing Celtic need right now is for any employee to be made to self isolate on their return to Bonnie Feckin Scotland ?

    HH.

  30. The most important aspect of tonight’s game is that the players and staff avoid infection.

Which is a ridiculous sitauation to be in.

  31. Good morning from a very damp match day here in North Staffs.

Plug for Morrison’s who are donating lunch packs for the local free school lunch initiative – will be picking them up together with their customers foodbank donations.

    Fair play to them.
