Tannadice the scene for Cup quarter final

877

On Saturday my mind wandered, as it does, to the demise of Gretna in 2008.  The village team were bankrolled through the Scottish league system until promotion to the SPL in 2007 but then the cash ran out.  The club went into liquidation a few weeks from the end of the season but while most of the first team squad were made redundant, a few remained on a week-to-week basis to see out the remaining league programme, assisted considerably by the SPL and Livingston FC, who made their ground available.

Should Rangers fail around the same time, I thought, how apt it would be for us to meet them in the Scottish Cup final.  We would be there at the end to wave goodbye to a unique institution.  Witnesses to the final whistle on a club with an enormously controversial history.

Unfortunately, my hopes were dashed by Dundee United at Ibrox yesterday, who Flushed Away the opposition and won their first game against an SPL team in 2012.  We will have to scramble for tickets for the prospective event at another venue.

United seem set to try their hardest to spoil my enjoyment of the Cup.  Our quarter final draw against them next month will be one of the toughest games of the season.

  1. ” A blind man can see what Craig Whyte is doin”….is that really offensive ? worthy of an on air apology by Delahunt?

Think Keevins reached a new nadir in his deflection of uncomfortable truths there. Perfectly reasonable caller sex that judging by Whytes previous you’d have to be blind not to see what he was doing to thems.

Does Hugh address the point? Nope, the caller is cut off and Hugh dear o fears an apology to those who might have been offended by references to blind people in the call.

Pathetic Hugh. You really would make a right good rubbish lawyer.

  3. Amadeus, it’s important the broadcaster who did the work gets to run with the story. BBC correctly take plaudits on this one.

The BBC have simply joined the departed Grieg, McClelland, Bain, Johnston route, had they done a proper investigation before the fakeover it may even have resulted in a proper takeover, so hell rub it into all of them.

Whyte is being exposed further as ‘not fitting’ almost on a daily basis, but no expose was attempted, until David Murray had offloaded as he was still controlling his media.

You may recall how ‘Stadivarious’ and ‘Gefinor’ were rubbished, fortunately the press did us a favour and thus entered The Bunnet.

Complicity by the media always has, and always will be Rangers downfall.

  6. Was just on Coral there for our latest odds –

    Scottish Cup – 10/11

    CIS Cup – 1/4

    SPL – 1/6

    Treble – just 6/4

Let’s hope the old adage about bookies is entirely correct.

No -what’s offensive is them faking a concern for blind people as a phoney shield to deflect from an inconvenient and incontrovertible truth.

  9. Lads on RTC it says why the media have a witch hunt against whyte, but the thing i can’t get my head round is why are the bbc showing whyte in a bad light.

    Dear Marge,

As a Tim of many years I witness the approaching demise of our enemy with satisfaction and unalloyed glee, nay schadenfreude.

However it would appear that the forthcoming valedictory celebrations involve consuming copious quantities of ice cream and jelly.

I have to confess that I have never be able to tolerate this wobbly confection and the mere sight of it , how shall I put it, gives me the dry boaks.

I am therefore feeling isolated and neglected at this historic and momentous time in our glorious history.

Starting to look grim for Craigy-boy. Difficult to believe this was part of the plan and difficult to see where the go from here, apart from straight into receivership.

But with every allegation and fiasco (add the Cellik one today as well), the possibility of them serenely sailing into the SPL as a NewCo is surely receding?

The MSM now have he bit between their teeth regarding Whyte (f not exactly Murray and RFC).

    The end is surely near…

Agree. Usually I ‘enjoy’ the show. Idiots talking rubbish has it’s entertainment value. And certainly of late there have been some excellent callers challenging the cozy status quo (take a bow Terry et al) and in a schaudenhingmyway I confess I do like to hear the near blubbing of the hordes o hell. But then there are moments like that that spike the bubble and I am jolted back to the reality that..I really shouldn’t be giving these horrors the time of day / listening figures.

How can someone be as stupid as Chris on Clyde – an alleged Celtic fan – come on the radio and suggest that we are the team with the problem should we not win this league?

    A) We WILL win it

    B) Celtic supporters should never give any succour, especially to idiots like Keevins to them while , by default, effectively having a pop at our manger.
