Teenage kicks

946

So how do you feel about playing a couple of teenagers, Filip Twardzik and debutant Jackson Irvine, in central midfield, but dropping a couple of SPL points?  Good, I hope.  Welcome to the world of player development.

For a decade or more Celtic produced prodigious youth teams but watched as Dundee United, Hibs, Hearts even Hamilton Accies graduated more effective adult players.  Key to this is perhaps ensuring that players are tested at a higher level at key times in their development.  In short, if you have not played regular first team football by the time you are 22 there is a good chance you will not fulfil your potential.

There is cost to this development, you’re not going to win all the time, especially when the two teenage central midfielders are surrounded by other young players: Adam Matthews, 20, Tony Watt, 18 and James Forrest, 21.  Half time substitute, Victor Wanyama, is still only 21.

I’m looking forward to seeing more teenage kicks in the coming months.

Just watched the highlights of yesterdays game. FF should have been more commanding in coming for that ball. Lustig was not to blame. FF seemed to take a slight step to his left instead of coming straight in and taking the ball.

FF better no dae that against Barcelona.

FF Has to learn to be more commanding in the 18 Yard Box Just now he is just a good shot stopper and a good Goalkeeper also has to learn about commanding ones technical area, Positioning, Anticipation, and good distribution of the Ball. The Big Man still has a few things to learn that ball yesterday should have been in Row ZZZ If in doubt put the Ball out of the field of play. Your right we can’t affoard to defend like that against for example Barcelona. If we do then Wee Lionel will have a feild day he will think that his Birthday & Christmas has all came on the same day

My Dad hates Murdoch with a passion and always slaughters anyone who buys the Sun. He still buys the Record?

I think he takes on board opinions like Keevins and I’m sure there are many others of my Dad’s age or similar who have no interest in PC’s that get all hteir information from the Record etc.

In our CQN bubble, we sometimes forget there is a big bad (and good) world out there. Hence the reason for the 10,000 leaflet drop yesterday at CP for WeeOscar4life

  5. Snake Plissken,

I like the players he has brought in this season.

And don’t worry about my Arsenal prediction, I have been making it regularly now for years. ;))

I’ve even dropped them to getting 2nd, if not first. :)

It is coming, and there will be an Arsenal dynasty as they have been building a massive foundation, for years.

  6. This is a season for blooding young talent.

However, yesterday’s abundance of youth is not the way we will be doing it.

Injury to a raft of players forced the manager’s hand and, but for missed chances and the goal frame, we would have got away with it.

Personally, I can’t see much differece with Phil’s publishers opting for the Sun and Neil’s going with tne Record.

Both are reprehensible ad those who are foaming at the mouth over Phil, should redirect some of their discharge to Neil.

For me, the question is:- Why did the Sun “pull” the story.

Were they afraid of the “legals” or afraid of the HunIA?

is, why did the Sun ” pull” the story?

I have a Statler & Waldorf pair behind me who reinforce each other in their misery.

When a Celt scores, he gets a response of “He nearly missed that, you know!”

It is worth it to see the rictus of a smile that struggles to express itself on their face when we score.

AKBW1888, it’s basic stuff. My bhoy’s team (u16) has a great shot stopping goalie and the lad made some spectacular saves today. But three times during today’s match the keeper dithers on a ball coming at him that he could easily collect.

    Result a 4 – 2 loss.

Big FF is quite obviously at a different level to the goalie in young ACGR’s team but its kind of the same thing. FF could have gone through both the hibs player and his own to get that ball, and he should have.

Phil has had a connection with that group for years, he broke the Dallas story through notw, he has written for them many many times as a freelance journo. Nothing new here.

There seems to be outrage at the book being serialised through them yet nothing I read or heard criticised him for getting his stories in print. Just an observation.

petec – unfortunately, it’s not just the old timers who continue to buy the rags. They can be excused up to a point, but there’s thousands of ‘younger’ Celtic fans who still pay good money for these rags, who continue with their agenda against our club and manager.

  14. Re Phil’s book and it’s serialisation in the sun – leaving aside the rights and wrongs of publishing there in the first place – it would be interesting to know why it has now been pulled. Have there been new threats or are the Murdoch press just worried about sales?

  15. I notice today that Arsenal have got the German fellow Podioski or whatever his name is

however in my opinion I think he’ll be a good signing for them and will score a few goals to boot after all he has proved it @ International level for Germany yeah he’ll be a very good signing for them as for Arsenal chalenging for the EPL title this Season that all depends on there away form and results like in the past they don’t tend to drop many points @ home it’s there away results that have let them down it will be interesting to see if they can finish above Man Utd or Man City or even Chelsea time will tell.

What a strike by Ben Arfa.

  17. petec

    Not sure about that.

Arsenal are a nice easy on the eye side but none of their players are in the class of the unbeatable side they had.

If they keep Vermaelen fit they have a chance but the others ain’t exceptional.

Podolski is a good player and that wee guy in the middle was a good player but Giroud looks a bad buy to me.

Tony Mowbray thought he was a good player. Nuff said.

  20. Kojo – not often we agree outright – my sarcasm detector remains at zero in this instance. The whole point of attending is to get passionate – we all display it in different ways.

SFTB – I just dont agree with you. I dont believe what posters are getting at is “relentless negativity of the home support”. I have never seen relentless negativity. I have seen anger and frustration – sometimes its over the top – indeed sometimes (more when I was younger) – I was over the top and learning. As I said we are at our best when riled and angry – it really makes a difference.

As for other managers – of course they say that – they say that about every big club.

This surreal world that some of you live in really does amaze me. Where its all sweetness and light and everyone holds hands together. I mean c’mon – learn to live with some passion – because if its not there – all your polite mumblings wont help.
