Teenage Matthews excels on Celtic right

1021

The most interesting point to make about Adam Matthews is that, for another month anyway, he is still a teenager.  You and I have seen enough of these games to know that the occasion has a habit of consuming inexperienced youth but Adam patrolled Celtic’s right with remarkable authority last night.  All the more remarkable considering this was his first game back after injury.

Football business for 2011 is finished and new signing, Swedish international right back, Mikael Lustig (25), is now available for selection.  At 6’3” Mikael has previously played in central defence but Neil Lennon insisted the player was primarily recruited as a right back but, despite the rate Celtic right backs pick up injuries, the need appears greater in central defence.  It’s hard to see Adam Matthews losing the right back berth.

  1. Tribute to Mikael Lustig

Banners read, “Thanks for the help, big man/ el presidente”.

3 inches taller than most men, albeit 2 inches shorter than the lanky, eponymous lump of flailing wood that is Kyle the Red Kneck Laughatme, who, soon, may be well put in his place.

    Gentlemen, please welcome, Mikael Lustig.

Just watched that wee clip with Charlie laughing at Broadfoot.

    Comedy gold.

    Cheers

    Zbyzsek.

I’d rather jelavic stayed. All he does is score penalties and take a wage.

  4. TET,

You 29 AGAIN?? Did you notice I sent Mikael Lustig to you and the fecker arrived at the wrong address?! He knew where you wanted him. He knows the score. 0-1 to the Tic, header from himself in the 69th minute. He’ll be playing CH when he scores, not RB.

  5. On the transfer front Neilly has said he wants a CB and a CF to offr something different in away games. I’m assuming he’s looking for a big target man, we’ll see who if anybody he gets.

On the CB front, I’d keep Rogne, K. Wilson and Mulgrew. I think Big Dan & Loovens are out of contract in the Summer, I’d let them go. Buy the best CB we can afford and go with 4 CBS to be supplemented by the U19s, Marcus Fraser and his pals.

I’d also let M. Wilson go on a free, ask Cha to get another club and have Matthews and Lustig as our RBs. At LB we have Izzy with Mulgrew, Matthews and Ledley as backup along with the U19s.

On another point, I’d give wee Forrest a few weeks off, he’s been playing continually now since the start of the season and I feel we need to give him a rest, so he can come back fully fit and rested for the money end of the season. I don’t want to risk burn out.

  6. BSR,

He sure did. More of that to come :)))) Mikael will be switching between RB and CB in the run up to Hun Armageddon.

It all depends on how little protection our players get from the mighty goat-goblin wizards when we meet all the intermediate sword-throwers in the Fenian-hating battlefields and what not, in the pre-huns-arnaegeddinit games..

    Aye, 29 again :>)

I know Mikael is a RB, but I would imagine that someone with his experiance could fit into our central defence no bother.

A quality striker and we will be uncatchable.

The wife thought he was for her btw :>)

Well that shows we have made good use of the Bosmans. As we know, it’s not always necessary to spend millions on a player.

Let’s hope young Rogne can stay fit at last, he’s another great prospect like Victor, Matty and James.

  9. Anyone want to buy a failed striker? Now skilled at tricky penalty box manoeuvres. Works well with like-minded referees. Just bought him for $250,000, now keen to sell him at a small profit. Bids start as soon as the Scottish Meeja let me know…..ah there we go, £9Million ONO PLEASE…..

Agree, even though I’ve been a critic of not spending on CB’s especially, Celtic have unearthed some talent through exceptional scouting.

Fitness is the key to open Rogne’s obvious raw potential.

  11. BSR,

Aye, but signed in November (as I suspect you know). Not to be included in Lenny’s recently stated requirements….

Almost entirely agree..but see Loovems ahead of K Wilson everything else yes. The challenge will be keeping the likes of Adam M who looks cut out for better standard than SPL can offer.

  14. New boy Mikael Lustig looks more like a film star than a footballer let’s hope his photogenicity is mirrored in his footballing ability! Welcome to the greatest team on the planet Mikael.

    Hail! Hail! PMTYH

  15. A bit of a rhetorical question. Do you think the spl would be looking at goal line technology if we had a goal not given ?

Many happy returns… Birthdays are great.. As my aunt said to me. ‘it’s better than the alternative!’…

  17. Neilly seems to be building (with the exception of Izzy) a team of big guys who can play football. The huns tried and failed to bully us the other night. In fact we where doing the bullying instead

  18. Those that would undermine us are………” aye ready” to sell off the talent in the january sales……

  19. Ole Jobo -I was in E.K. on the day of St Stephen.

The ole litter was deep and crisp and even, and the roundabouts had taken a bit of a battering.

I thought if Ally Mccoist has come home for a few hours to ponder the future of La Femme Nikica his extra weight may prevent him being blown over.

  20. Cheers bhoys.
