Teenage Matthews excels on Celtic right

1021

The most interesting point to make about Adam Matthews is that, for another month anyway, he is still a teenager.  You and I have seen enough of these games to know that the occasion has a habit of consuming inexperienced youth but Adam patrolled Celtic’s right with remarkable authority last night.  All the more remarkable considering this was his first game back after injury.

Football business for 2011 is finished and new signing, Swedish international right back, Mikael Lustig (25), is now available for selection.  At 6’3” Mikael has previously played in central defence but Neil Lennon insisted the player was primarily recruited as a right back but, despite the rate Celtic right backs pick up injuries, the need appears greater in central defence.  It’s hard to see Adam Matthews losing the right back berth.

Interesting minutes, the extract below i find is particularly illuminating about our so called “paranoia”

“On the subject of relations between large elements of Celtic support and the police CC accepted that there had been a breakdown in trust following a series of anti-Celtic briefings given by the Communications Officer at Strathclyde Police. It was pointed out and accepted that the journalist and the tabloid concerned were known to have an anti-Celtic agenda. CC confirmed that future briefings from police would need a different approach and that Communications Officer would no longer be doing that function and that Celtic PR Dept. would be involved. CC accepted that these events had been damaging to police.”

Which Tabloid and what Journalist are they referring too?

I think there were articles in the Scotsman and maybe the Herald as well ,dont remember the writer.

A police source saying they were going to use all means possible to smash the Irish Republician Marxist Green Brigade.

Listening to a journalist talking on the radio recently and she said any story that goes into a paper is checked by the editor before it goes out and must have two verifiable sources.

It was an outragious thing to print ,or for a police source to leak and they should be pulled up about it.

Hopefully the game / result will see a full Celtic Park for the run-in………it really was a special night….

  5. When Celtic dropped 2 points at home to Hibs on the 29th October it made the points dropped for the season 13 in total from a possible 33. Since then, 27pts from 27 pts have been reeled in beginning with an away win at Fir Park.

Sandwiched between the Hibs game and the away win at Fir Park was the home 3-1 win v Rennes in the EL. Victor Wanyama had not featured in the Hibs match, nor indeed the previous poor result, the 3-3 draw at Rugby park, but was introduced for the Rennes match. He has since started every match for us in that 27pts from 27points run.

Whilst I accept one player does not make a winning team, it appears to be that we are a much stronger team with Vic in the line up. Looking like a vg piece of business in finding him.

I hope he can stay injury clear to the end of the season. He looks a tough cookie so he should. Staying clear of suspension may not be so easy.

The MIB will have him targetted.

Cheers, looks like Strathclyde Police have dealt with internally.

The police don’t concern me as they are changing as the old guard starts to retire and the positive influence of equality and diversity kicks in during recruitment, the journalist on the other hand is something we should be very concerned about imho.

  9. No kidding this time, guys.

I read interesting article on dnevnik.hr yesterday.

They were giving info about Jelavic situation at Rangers, some quotations from McCoist etc.

At the end of the article the journalist said: Our source close to the player confirmed that 99 percent Jelavic will be sold in the next couple of days to one of the Premiership clubs.

Same source could not confirm the club was QPR. It might be another Premiership club. Transfer fee not given (suggested).

  10. I kno the ole Celts are in a good run of form but so are the Natural History Unit of the BBC.

They’ve followed up on ‘Frozen Planet’ with the amazing ‘Earthflight’.

    Hawks hunting bats in mid-air!

  12. Mark Hateley in todays Record

Opening line – “Nobody in their right footballing mind would now say that Rangers have a hope in hell of winning the title”

2nd last paragraph header – “Rangers can still win the title but it’s a tall order”

Brilliant. You said it Mark, nobody in their right footballing mind.

  13. BSR – so far the one thing ole Joe G hasn’t said is ‘what larks, Pip!’

Have the Beeb been reading the right book?

A bit disappointing is my verdict, not as good as the David Lean film.

  14. Okay, I must go. Before I go breaking news from Rangers source.

For at least 1 percent Nikica Jelavic will stay with a team after January window.

That was positive news for Rangers lurkers. Huh. It’s New Year close and they deserve good news.
