Teenage Matthews excels on Celtic right

1021

The most interesting point to make about Adam Matthews is that, for another month anyway, he is still a teenager.  You and I have seen enough of these games to know that the occasion has a habit of consuming inexperienced youth but Adam patrolled Celtic’s right with remarkable authority last night.  All the more remarkable considering this was his first game back after injury.

Football business for 2011 is finished and new signing, Swedish international right back, Mikael Lustig (25), is now available for selection.  At 6’3” Mikael has previously played in central defence but Neil Lennon insisted the player was primarily recruited as a right back but, despite the rate Celtic right backs pick up injuries, the need appears greater in central defence.  It’s hard to see Adam Matthews losing the right back berth.

You underestimate the powers of the Dark Side. Have their ways they do. Observe the Rules of life they don’t. To the bitter end, keep going they will. In the opinion me of. Pay our repair bill they won’t. :)

If they don’t pay our repair bill, I’d guess revenge will be visited ten fold on our next visit to ipox! I remember 20 years ago I got charged for breaking my seat before getting to the stadium. Did I get my moneys worth?

The SFA is apparently now very much in favour of goalline technology. Has something happened to give them a new interest in the subject?

A Mr Wishart said 2 weeks ago he would never have video evidence at games, I wonder if he’ll change his mind after his beloved rangers got a wee dodgy against his team.

Imagine it was introduced for the next time we played them and it was us that scored a dubious goal but the goal line technology goes in our favour and we win the game now that would be comedy gold lol.

    Charlie mulgrew moment there lol.

    Good morning Guys,

Neil is looking for a central defender and centre forward in the next window. Im a little disapointed to hear that. Surely we must have some talent coming through the ranks that would save the club paying out more millions. The twardiz brothers have been knocking at the door for a chance, plus James Keetings has done well, and young Toshney must be gutted to hear we are looking for another cental defender. We have some great young players at the club already in Mathews, Rogne, Wanyama, Ki and a few more who could make it if given a chance. Mcgeouh showed his ability when given a chance, and what has happened to that prospect Paul Slane.

Carpe diem… Usually translates to ‘seize the day’ as promoted in the excellent ‘Dead Poets Society’ but I assume a true scholar like yourself refers to the literal translation of enjoy the the day? .. Or pluck the fruit in reference to my ‘pluck talent with impunity’

I’ll take your advice and just ‘enjoy the day’.. It feels like its been a long time coming ; )

  13. Much as I would enjoy the laugh of a Rangers Firesale in January and administration and all the rest of it, I really would like them to keep what remains of their squad in tact and avoid a points penalty until the season has ended.

I do not want any suggestion that we did not win this league on our own merit.

Thankfully we have got back on top while they still had a full squad and even as we went through something of an injury crisis ourselves. So if it does happen that they flog jellylegs and wages go unpaid in march, april or may, then we can at least say our recovery was complete before the event.

But the Celtic way is to win fairly and squarely by playing football better than the others. I believe it’s called ‘corinthian spirit’.

Besides, the prospect of them going belly up in May will give us a whole summers worth of entertainment. We can then look forward to their attempts to climb up from Division 3 as a new club and hopefully Aberdeen, Hibs or DUFC could find their mojo and give us a game in the meantime.

Happy New Year – away to sweep out the old…………………….

By the way can anyone point me in the direction of any funnies from FF or such like? Haven’t time to trawl the site………….

IMO we need 2 experienced LBs & RBs, 4 CBs, 7 Mids and 4CFs. We then drip feed the U19s into the team, no pressure, just let them get a game here and there. If possible loan them to the Championship for half a season and when they are ready lijke wee Forrest unleash them full time.

From now on Charlie Mulgrew should be known as Smiley Mulgrew……..

  17. I think we should be looking at Jordi Gomez of Wigan.

  18. hen1rik,

“Surely the board won’t fail us again”

I don’t see it like that. last year, 1 trophy and 1 measly frikn point from winning the title as well. A failure ? I suppose it was, bloody narrow one though.

Think about the players we have, the board must take some credit. OK maybe they do need to show a bit more courage at times with signing targets (hell I dont know what actually goes on behind the scenes but I am sure there are a myriad of factors that have to be taken into account) but Neil does have hungry YOUNG and VERY GOOD players at his disposal. Augment our current squad with a couple more players soon (and constant additions over the next few years), I’m sure we’ll reap the benefits for many seasons to come.

As for selling what we do have ? One of us here appears to be banging on about it, selling them to lower EPL clubs (couldnt possibly be higher quality teams could it ?). Strange musings for a so called Celtic fan.

Thanks mate, I have registered the fault with EA sports but got no response, it ruins it for the boys when the run in doesn’t happen, english PL works fine so the boys are now managing St Mary’s (Man City) having signed Kayal, Ki and Victor to bolster the team.

Robert Tressell………when did we start worrying about we are perceived by the media etc in Scotland……….if we were to win the Champions League, they would find a negative spin to put on it ….. the sooner the better on the 10 points scenario…….

Very briefly (and financially illiterately) on Rangers finances.

I had a chat with someone who understands these things brilliantly and he said, in short, that Rangers turnover (income before expenses) this season would be 20 something million pounds. I can’t remember his exact estimate but for poor wee Rangers sake let’s say it turns out to be £29.9m.

Last year they had operating costs of 40 something million pounds. Again, I can’t remember the exact figure, I think it was £47m but let’s go best case for Rangers and it was £41.1m.

You can see the problem. Best case scenario for them is a £10.2m gap between income and expenditure. And it’s actually worse than that.

The good news for us? That’s got here haw to do with the Tax Case.

mybhoysnowatim…….Absoluitely spot on…………..an incredible achievement by Neil to run them so close, considering the blatant cheating etc………. we have now developed as a team, overcome our injuries, and it doesn’t matter what they do now, we are ‘on the one road, and together now who cares’ …..and the Board have backed him, while being caereful during this recession….

    Neil Lennon………that is all…..!!!!!!!!!!!

  24. Many happy returns TET, got your birthday present a couple of days early!

According to my computer the literal translation of Lustig from Swedish to English is “Funny” which means our Mikael obviously has a sense of humour. So film star looks and a sense of humour the total antithesis of a hun, obviously born to be a bhoy!

Sorry my friend but i must agree to disagree on that one. Ki is going to be a star in the future. He has the ability to pick that pass to get the strikers in on goal, a great shot, and is getting stronger as he gets older. Of all the midfield players we have at present he is the one who is different and can change a game with is vision. A lot of the top clubs are keeping an eye on him and i will be amazed and delighted if he chooses to stay.

Swanseabhoy…….I’ve been saying that ’til I’m ‘Green in the face’……….. they have been running with this £10 – £15m operating deficit for some years now……..going out of Europe and 2 domestic trphies has really put the cat in amongst the pigeons, then you only need to consider the loss of revenues due recession / defeat on Wednesday ……..etc
