The Celtic Globetrotters

I don’t know what the commercial value of our summer games against Barcelona, Leicester City and Inter Milan are, but those three games are sure to dwarf the earnings we make from domestic media and prize money for the whole of next season.

TV rights for English Premier League football from next season will average just above £7m per game, that’s for each of the 10 games on the weekly card – Sweet Georgia Brown! The actual value of these varies enormously: Watford v Bournemouth has practically no commercial value, all the real value is added by games between big clubs – even the likes of Newcastle, who are a poor team, but one which many colours of football fans still want to watch.

In a different environment, TV rights for Celtic games would be north of that £7m per game figure (the increased exposure would also geometrically improve commercial rights values). Think what we could do with that kind of money…….. more paper towels in the gents, maybe, the possibilities are limitless!

Our position is far from unique, there are a dozen or so European teams of similar size who have been marginalised from what was once a meritocratic game, so change must (always) remain on our agenda. But for now, we have to make what we can from our role as the Celtic Globetrotters.

You won’t pay into corrupt Scottish football. That’s fair enough and I understand your view point. As it is though, we have no choice other than to voluntarily fold up and end it all.

The only route away is to play outwith Scottish football.

What steps might we take to ensure we keep a high profile among those that might be keen to set up some kind of non-national league?

    You know where i stand.

Attended for 40 years, but no more.

If the Celtic board are prepared to ignore cheating, why the feck should i buy into it.

    My conscience is clear.

    Im not looking the other way;

No, im calling it out for what it is…..Cheating.

I can only speak for myself.

But i dont think im the only one who has a problem with the board condoning cheating.

  3. Dj67. The board are beginning to feel the pressure. Hence the non mention of the Huns today. That’s as a result of thousands of supporters sending emails, letters etc and the clamour around res 12.

You see this should be a sieze the day moment. We must keep the pressure on them. Season book time is approaching and there is a lot of doubt in the Celtic boardroom that their plan to appease the sfa and nunnery will pay off. Recently doubt is growing in their mind that they got the wrong strategy.

This should be a signal to ramp up the pressure. The board the question needs to stop asking is how much must we appease the Celtic support. The question they need to be asking is how far they need to change their stance.

What the blind happy clappy persons on this site fail to see is the power we can wield and that thei acceptance of cheating is harming our need for change.

  4. Weeminger we don’t need to leave Scotland toes ape the cheating. The first step is simply to confront it and show what Celtic should have shown. Leadership.

  5. Green man

As usual your greeting gets me outta lurking mode,

Never stop do you? We know your opinion of our club without you sticking the knife in at every turn,

Can I just remind you of the 2 centre backs when we beat barca at Celtic park, none other than kelvin Wilson and effe ambrose, to me Jozo and Eric are a step up from them and who tore iniesta a new arse for the goal? Tony watt, a player who can’t hold a first team place anywhere he goes,

Whilst I am not shouting from high that we are going to do this or that, they are pre season friendlies against world class players, better than playing some German third or fourth division team gaining nothing,

3 really tough games among others I am sure that will/should help the players regain match fitness,

Give them a break man… Oh and try and support your team

  6. I just don’t know what to say any more it seems like we are all going round in circles. Some ghuys saying if the Club refers to them as Rangers I’ll be walking away, Club doesn’t refer to them at all. Is that a positive ? Apparently not, it’s a Squirrel manoeuvre.

    Ask yourself this.

Would any team with CL pretensions, be signing the likes of Carlton Cole and Ciftci.

    No…of course not.

The agenda, is the resurrection of the corpse of the old firm, and being crap in the Europa League.

Money before principle….that about sums it up.

Yet….its not money to improve the team, its for bonus payments.

I’m not sure if it’s due to the international break or the negativity constantly on here by the same posters that a new blog has only 3 pages of comments. Yesterday’s blog ended up with 9 pages. IMO it is the constant negative posters with the same mantra every single day that is driving posters away on a daily basis.

Guys like CorkCelt, Weeminger etc try to raise different subjects but the same relentless drivel is posted as fact / opinion every single day. I know I hardly ever look in here now, so to neg2 & TGM, you’ve done it, you’ve managed to destroy a decent Celtic blog.

I used to see this place as a virtual Celtic pub where we would drop in and discuss all things Celtic as well as other subjects that came up, but not now. It’s no wonder 29 pubs are closing each week if it’s full of the boreafucks that visit this place every day with their negativity.

I’ll still be attending the football supporting Celtic, no matter what these agenda driven non supporters say….

  10. Weeminger

I don’t believe their is nothing we can do.

Remember this is decisions taken by our board, that is the antithesis of sport, together we can make them change course, or preferably imo remove them.

Demand answers before renewing, try and bring a semblance of sporting integrity back to our game, if you are going to cheat us you will be held accountable, otherwise it will just be more of the same. Say no more.

  11. A quick Q&A

Q: Both engines on a ‘plane fall off flying over Celtic Park – how do you know that Green Man, Neganon, Sid & Jungle VIP are all on board?

A: You can still hear a whining noise!

    Reading both and feeling sad.

When I read about original res12 and board decision after that meeting.

I thought ‘shelved’ and then recently ‘ long grass’ and I knew it was dead

‘Ba’ on the slates – I posted recently that I now felt old for the first time in my life, because in my heart I knew the board are not going to support this and doing what boards do – seen it so often in other businesses and been party to the stage management of similar issues.

The difference here is that I care passionately about what happens at Celts!

I felt old or probably not old but more a realisation that I don’t have the will or the energy to take the bastards on!

Before anyone goes anywhere, I would remind all concerned that Celtic is not the board.

They need a timely reminder of that and damned soon.

Sadly for me that will take younger and stronger men.

I’m getting to the passive stage in this issue and it makes me feel older than I should.

Maybe I’m just being melancholy. I might snap out of it…

  14. The Green Man, If you stick your head above the parapet & post on the blog then you can’t complain if someone takes you to task. Masty had a perfect right to challenge your post.

If as you say in your reply everyone sticks to their own belief and allow others the courtesy of the same, there would be no debate at all and no craic either.

I didn’t say there was nothing we could do. I said we had no choice at the moment but to play in the SPL.

I have no issue with people that choose not to go. However, I feel that similarly they should respect the wishes of those that do.

If we all decided en mass to stop going from this summer forth. The club would cease. We could not survive losing even a single season’s ticket revenue and associated costs.

The board love the bottom line, and that’s it.

In some respects ppl are safe with their boycott in the knowledge that others will keep going, and keep the club going. The downside is that it makes the gesture ultimately futile.

[What are you worried about] I’m not worried about anything at the moment, as strange to you as that may sound

[Would you prefer to agree with everybody about everything] Of course not, I don’t agree with you for a start.

[Forgive me for telling it like it is] I’ve no issue with you telling as you see it, but 20 / 30 times a day bores the arse of me and is one of the reasons I don’t drop in here more often.

[People who exist to line their pockets from Celtic….Ive no time for them] Is that Celtic supporters you’re talking about ? People who try to justify not supporting Celtic whilst saying they’re Celtic supporters, I’ve no time for those…

Anybody can see that our current team, are way below the required standard for the CL.

Im not saying that for the sake of argument….im saying it out of concern.

So…If RD or PL are telling us that we are going to qualify for the CL with the current team, im sorry, but im not buying it.

I am very happy with Celtic FC calling Rangers Rangers as thats what they are.

As Rangers are the main Modus Operandi of the board its good that they call Rangers Rangers.

Not sevco and not deid. One thing I do agree with the board about.

    What about you?

    or are you a deidist?

Sorry mo chara, that’s bollox, you and others need to ask were exactly is the money coming from to stay with teams?

It’s all fine and well naming a few smaller teams that have exceptional years in the champions league but none sustain it over any period of time, we did it in 03

  28. The Green Man says SACK THE Board on

Will playing these friendlies improve the team in any way.

    I wouldn’t think so.

The Green Man says SACK THE Board – Who says I support PL ? I support Celtic, you and others are being deliberately divisive in trying to split the support into who supports what faction.
