The Celtic Park theatre

350

Slightly annoyed at being moved from the Upper North tonight but after experiences of League Cup games at this time of the season against Partick, Falkirk and Morton, it’s probably no bad thing that atmosphere is concentrated up close and personal to the field.  Celtic Park can be an intimidating theatre, but League Cup nights need some crowd management to make it so.

Remember, it’s a 19:15 kick off, so don’t pitch up midway through the second half!

We’re less than three weeks away from the Great Scottish Run and my Celtic Foundation T-shirt has just arrived.  If you are registered to run and would like to raise £125 for the Foundation’s work towards Health, Equality, Learning and Poverty, email them here and they’ll be in touch.

It’s not too late to register for the event itself, which you can do here.

I know the call goes out often, and I know everyone cannot get involved, but the community of Celtic fans is anchored in a tradition of caring for those in need.  We need to continue to tell this story and ensure the message is not lost.  I have a MyDonate page here, if you can help out.

Many thanks.

  1. tonight is a potential watershed/tipping point….

We lose tonight – it’s back to the drawing Board and time to bring Hartley and Macnamara in for a wee talk…

Win well tonight..the vibe is positive and we can start to kick on…

  2. A domestic dispute:

“We, the rangers supporters, do not wish for you to be running our club anymore.”

“Well that is too bad because we are not leaving.”

“We, the rangers supporters Demand that you get out.”

“We the rangers management/owners do not do ‘walking away’ ”

“But it is us, the rangers supporters, that don’t do walking away. That’s our thing. You stole it.”

“We are not stealing anything. You voluntarily give/gave us your money. Why would we do walking away?.”

    “But, but, we ara peepul.”

“Well peepul this conversation is over. See you next season. Bring money.

Oh, and tell your pals – No Surrender.”

  3. Easedale now has control over 26% of the huns shares which apparently means he can, if he wishes to do so, vote down any new investment into the club in the form of a new share distribution/sale.

Make of that what you will.

People are totally disillusioned with New Labour on every level.

It’s not just working class people in Scotland.

New Labour are completely out of touch with the people who traditionally vote for them.

    ====================================

Just because the country decided NO was the sensible option, in their angst YES voters are trying to scapegoat Labour.

The electorate, on a single issue subject, rejected the SNP. I imagine, the party who will suffer most is the SNP.

They will have a modest surge in the centre of the country but there is a huge backlash in the SNP heartlands as they are disgusted at the SNP turning ‘socialist’ to win votes.

Salmond didn’t even win his own consituency, he’s jumped before he was pushed. SNP are not called Tartan Tories for nothing.

  5. Snake & Moonbeams

I voted Yes. No won 55-45 on a 86% turnout. In a democracy, that’s a decisive victory for No.

WM must deliver on their promises, because 45% is a big minority to try to renage on.

The attitude of the WM parties will be under scrutiny and the sophisticated Scottish electorate will seek to damage those who backslide.

The campaigns for the general election will be interesting. Only 7 months away.

Then the Scottish Parliamentary elections are due in May 2016. I don’t think our politicians have ever been under such scrutiny for such a sustained period. It will keep them on their toes.

Just to touch on this. I have voted Labour all my adult life but won;t do again under their current leadership and strategies. The image of them celebrating with the Tories last week will take a long time to forget.

    Undecided going forward.

I didn’t vote in the referendum.

It’s not just people in Scotland that are rejecting New Labour. The English and Welsh votes are every bit as important to them.

  9. This guy’s musings are a sensible antidote to some of the nonsense being posted on here in the aftermath of the referendum.

From a Labour* perspective it’s an honest and realistic summary of where they are and what they need to do.

It certainly wasn’t an edifying spectacle. I can only imagine what Keir Hardie, Jimmy Maxton et al would have thought of it. Enough to gie ye the boak.

    Brilliant so he is.

  12. tomtheleedstim – Refusing to renegotiate terms with its suppliers forced them to withdraw support. They knew exactly what they were doing on both. The owners walk off with millions,

If that’s the case, I can’t see BC Partners staying in business. Who will lend them money again?

the suppliers now have less competition in the market and the workforce and taxpayers have been stuffed yet again.

I feel sorry for the employees, though nobody should expect a job for life in a mobile phone shop! It looks like EE and Vodafone will rescue a lot of former Phones4U stores, which is good.

Competition hasn’t really suffered. We still have EE, Vodafone, 3, O2, Virgin, Tesco Mobile, and some smaller outfits. (thumbsup)

steinreignedsupreme – I saw a Wimpy in Fraserburgh. I think they just forgot to close that one down. (thumbsup)

  13. People need to get engaged with politics like we have in Scotland. Instead of moaning about red tories, people should be trying to get involved with the Labour party to start influencing policy from within.

Splitting off and voting SNP will do the Tories a favor.

  15. And before anyone points out that neither Keir Hardie nor Jimmy Maxton espoused independence, they certainly would NEVER have shared a platform with Tories.

Rule No1 of the original Parliamentary Labour Party prohibited MPs from drinking within the Palace of Westminster, ie the bosses’ club. Sadly, only 2 or 3 currently adhere to that. Dennis Skinner and Tony Benn were 2 who did.

I am swaying to the SNP. I’m not convinced that New Labour will be much different from the Tories. They certainly weren’t last time.

Long way to the election but if I voted Yes in the referendum then it makes sense for me to support a party that want independence for Scotland.

Still a lot of thinking to do. I could yet be swayed back but I wouldn;t trust Miliband to do the sweep on our bus!

Sometimes we have to do unpleasant things due to the bigger picture

A lot of stuff has happened at Celtic which I cannot ever agree with.

I was on the same side as some unsavoury bedfellows to get a NO result.

I still (and will always) love Celtic and the Labour Party. I am on the inside of both trying to change how they are steered to how I want them to represent me.

    It’s called being a supporter I suppose…………..or stupid.

  20. timaloy29 15:01

    Maybe

But SNP fundamentalists will argue that if they’ve waited 300 years for independence they can wait 5 more while the Tory/UKIP coalition lays waste to what’s left of the country.

Don’t underestimate the potential impact of this on those who feel betrayed at a Labour-run Better Together campaign, never mind the nondelivery of the supposed new powers.

The notion of Labour politicians in the East End of Glasgow defending the status quo – where male life expectancy is FIFTY EIGHT – is ludicrous.

Miliband talking about “THEY nearly broke up our United Kingdom”. Lauding Alexander and Murphy for “SAViNG OUR COUNTRY”. Who do they think YES voters were? ISIS?

Labour have taken the ordinary Joe in Scorland for mugs for generations. If Ordinary Joe has copped on to this at last, then fair play to him.

Each to their own mate. Not for me though. A bit like that keying your own car statement for me which was used yesterday about booing Celtic.

Things changed for me last week with that vote. My place of work used scare mongering to sway people to vote no.

Sticks in the throat. Labour were involved in scare mongering and threatening jobs of Scottish people. That is not a party I can identify with right now.

Celtic are a football club and maybe much more to some of us but it’s a sporting club and PLC. The Labour party are a party for the working people of the UK. How can they support the scare mongering tactics of threatening peoples jobs for no good reason? Right now I am disgusted with the lot of them and the 3 major parties in the UK are pretty much the same. Maybe time for me to look at the SNP and what they can deliver. At least I the I don;t like Salmond brigade have no excuses now.

BTW when does the fracking commence on central Scotland? Disgrace! Hope it doesn;t set off that ticking time bomb we have stationed in Helensburgh!

Maybe said too much but it’s an emotional time for me at the minute.

I voted yes but will not be voting SNP. I will never support a party who tried to criminalize Celtic fans for being Celtic fans. I also have to accept that Scotland voted no and we will have to work towards a better Britain for the next 20 or so years.

I believe that the labour party is the only viable option but we need to make sure they are true to the views of their people. Everybody wants a rationalization of the railways. It makes too much sense. Yet Ed was too scared.

Mistakenly I thought the referendum scenario would have been settled for a generation by the acceptance of the democratic will of the people. That to me is the first broken promise.

I cannot understand the hatred, yes hatred of all things Labour and Jim Murphy in particular. Yes change and direction is required but influence it from the inside.

I will not indulge in childish name-calling, but The SNP will do us no favours. If you think differently, then fine.

Salmond with his almighty populist bandwagon could not even convince his own heartlands so this is not just a labour problem.

All is up for grabs, but good luck to Nicola Sturgeon as history has proven wee eck doesn’t do walking away.
