The Craig Whyte narrative. Kris, Leo.

1626

Best news of the day?  Kris Commons wants to be involved tomorrow against Barcelona.  I doubt Kris is anywhere near match fit, so there’s no chance of him starting on Wednesday against Astana, but a 15 minute cameo, when the Astana players’ body clocks are telling them it’s after 2am, would go down a treat.

I’ve always been a bit more ambivalent about Leonel Messi than most.  “He’s not hit the levels of Ronaldinho” is my stock comment, and then there’s the dirty little subject.  (Tax).

But his media comments ahead of tomorrow’s International Champions Cup game, “I have a Celtic jersey at home. The games against Celtic were special and I want to remember them”, proves there’s substance to the man.

I’ve a Celtic jersey at home too, Leo.  A few of us here do.

Former-Rangers former vice-chairman Donald Findlay is to defend Craig Whyte is his forthcoming trial.

Whyte’s urban legend is going to be difficult to shift, but it’s not accurate.  We mocked Rangers fans a few years ago, referring to him as “Our Hero” but he never was.  He was the bag man for a very dirty job.

How he handled the SFA, Uefa, HMRC and, most crucially, the insolvency court, when he managed to secure the appointment of Duff and Phelps as Rangers administrators was crucial in the continuation of football at Ibrox.

It was Duff and Phelps who gave Newco the right to use the name “Rangers”, after which point Whyte could claim he was passing on “Rangers”.  Everyone else mocked this liquidation fantasy at the time.  Until liquidation became a reality, that is.

Whyte left Newco relatively safe in the hands of Charles Green, where it would have thrived, if it hadn’t faced a hostile and damaging takeover bid from its first week of life.

Our auction prize, donated by (the pretty fabulous) Celtic sponsor, Intelligent Car Leasing, closes just after 1pm today.

You can win:

2 seats in the directors’ box

Champagne reception

5 course meal in the Walfrid Suite

Fully expenses bar (pre and post-match)

Half time snacks and refreshments

Car Parking

At the game against Kilmarnock on 24 September.

Money raised from the auction will go towards building a school kitchen in Malawi for Mary’s Meals. It it will be the 5th CQN school kitchen.

Our four existing kitchens feed over 2000 primary aged kids every day. School attendance has increased 30% since kitchens were built, as kids attend for their daily meal. This has an impact on health, education and life chances.

You can follow the auction on eBay here.  Thank you.

I’m off to Aberdour now for the 12th annual CQN Golf Open.  I’ll be the one holding the jackets.

See you then.

I’m 66 and have attended 4 international Fitba matches in my life .

2 of them were in 66 – Italy v North Korea / Italy v Russia . . A wee jaunt to see Gianni Rivera and Gigi Meroni in the flesh .

The other 2 were in Morocco — Morocco v Ethiopia and Morocco v France . . Morocco mollicated Ethiopia and Morocco drew 2-2 with the French team which won the World Cup . That Moroccan team humped Scotland 3-0 . Couldn’t believe the odds being offered for a Moroccan win . Big punt / big win – many thanks for the ignorance /arrogance .!

Reading about people leaving the blog or taking grief for their opinions – funnily enough if my views were in stark divergence from the majority of people on a blog, social situation etc I’d probably not keep posting or keep their company unless my intention was to wind them up or try and change their minds.

He is just out theatre and is gutted they never gave him a green “stookie”.

Big thanks to all the nurses and doctors at Monklands & wishaw General hospitals ,the wee mhan was pain free and comfortable 10-150mins after falling.

Sorry to read about your wee grandson…shame.

Spoil him rotten is what I would do…

  7. If people are sensitive to critical responses of their posts?

Simple solution is not to post.

I am of the opinion that the purpose of a blog is to stimulate debate.

I have criticised many posts and have been subjected to the same.

Sometimes the banter is fun but occasionally it gets heated.

Leaving the blog is an individual choice.

I will remain to give and take the blows with fellow Celtic fans.

  8. Leftclicktic, sorry to hear about the wee guy. Keep the painkillers handy could get sore later.

  9. Macjay – you kinda make my point for me.

    ‘Hitlerite’?

You take exception to my point. Good. We can, if both of us are inclined, have time, care enough etc debate it.

Anyone can. If they aren’t making headway with their point or they can’t hack being called, for example, a ‘hitlerite’, they are probably not benefitting from their time spent on this or any other blog. In fact it could be damaging to them.

No one has to agree. You just have to have enough mental fortitude to handle disagreement or enough sense to bail out when it’s appropriate to yourself to do so.

  10. LEFTCLICKTIC…

Sorry to here about your grandson and hope he mends quickly.

I laughed when you said the wee mhan was annoyed his stookie wasn’t green.

Three weeks ago when I broke my collar bone my arm was strapped up with a blue harness, I asked if they had any green ones…they looked at me as if I was mad.

Don’t think I’ll ever grow up..:)))

  11. South Of Tunis on

    MARRAKESH EXPRESS .

Gigi Meroni got less than ten caps .. – he had to get his hair cut in order to make his debut! – in the 66 World Cup he played against the USSR but didn’t play v Chile or North Korea . Fabulous player – there is a good Italian tv documentary about him on You Tube .

I think Gianni Rivera is the best Italian player ever . I think Gianni Rivera is the best player I have seen.

  12. I’m actually chuckling to myself at being called a hitlerite!!!

    Literally.

For the record Macjay – I’m going offline for an hour or two. Lack of response to further posts must not be regarded as a flounce on my part!!!!!

  13. Crass populism is the driving force behind vitriol produced by certain people on here. Back-slapping, they hunt in a pack, egging each other on to see who can come up with the most vile turn of phrase, or, snide comment.

They have distain for anyone with an opinion that falls outside their narrow version of the truth.

They believe that purpose of this forum is to simply parrot a particular viewpoint that they mistakenly think is the settlled will of a homogenous and united Celtic support – e.g Sack the Board/Lawwell is the Bonus Thief….etc

They believe that in all things Celtic, there are “off the cuff’, simple and straightforward solutions to complex problems, most times without a scintilla of evidence on their behalf.

I make up my own mind based on the facts and, if the facts change, I revisit my opinion. I will continue to post here, in a proper manner, without fear, or, favour – I ALWAYS stand up to bullies.

Finally on the scarf-grabbing incident – yes it was resolved without further incident, it could have ended up differently and ugly, if there had been willing combatants on the other side.

  14. Afternoon all.

I hear Dublin is rather busy today.

Know somes bhoys from Glesga who were unable to find accommodation anywhere in Dublin this weekend.

Ended up staying in Belfast overnight, and travelled down by train this morning.

    And happy to do so.

    One issue only.

Vilification based on refusal to toe the ” party line .”

Whatever the current ” party line ” happens to be.

I look forward to your reinforcement , irrespective of your personal preferences , of that basic principle.

    Particularly …………

“if my views were in stark divergence from the majority of people on a blog, social situation etc .”

  17. I’m missing today’s game, going to a wedding, so don’t mention the score ’cause I’m recording it and don’t want to know the score, but obviously still want to read the blog.

  18. Good afternoon, friends.

An absolutely fantastic day yesterday in Aberdour. If I start naming names I’m sure to miss someone out although I do awnt to say a bigh thank you to my playing partners, Curly and son, my driver Marspapa and his co-pilot and satnaver Lennybhoy.

Was alerted to the following post from last night and had a real laugh as, coincidentally, I DID get relief from a staked tree!

Watched highlights of CQN Aberfoyle open on Eurosport. A disgrace to the club. Never seen so much cheating, foot wedges, dropped balls etc. and bad language ! Jobo Balde, relief behind a staked tree doesn’t mean relief as you interpreted it. Have to report this to Peter Lawell. HH

  19. Knaw and what facts did you have? A15 second video which really showed very little in fact had it continued on I wonder what your comments would have been. You’re not on here to join in with a community of like minds, you’re here to be a complete #knaw.

In that respect, job done. Return to base.

  22. When MN, Mr Pastry, et all started posting on here I said from the start he wasn’t a Celtic supporter and his sole reason on here was to sow discord, that he does.

    Never a Celtic supporter.

  23. Bobby, what’s your prediction for today? (Attempts to get you back to the football)

  24. Macjay – it’s not the easy road. I deal in disagreement and conflict in virtually every day of my working life – I am sometimes the cause and sometimes the solution! Keeping it from being personal is far from easy. But it’s how you maintain your own humanity and stop yourself from becoming cynical about life and about people.

On a blog? Probably a bit easier. We should not be too concerned about it in my opinion.

And the only big game is on Wednesday! Friendlies don’t float my boat, no matter who the opposition.

I did not get to see Ernest Ranglin . Tried to find out if it was on or off before going to Bari for the flight to Istanbul but the info wasn’t available . . Having checked in – discovered concert was cancelled ( I later saw conflicting info that the gig had been moved to a smaller venue with a smaller band etc but a guy I spoke to in Istanbul said that was guff ). Went to Istanbul anyway . Apartment booked / paid for etc . . Had a good time in Istanbul but all the flag waving stuff in the streets gave me the heebie geebies..
