The Craig Whyte narrative. Kris, Leo.

1626

Best news of the day?  Kris Commons wants to be involved tomorrow against Barcelona.  I doubt Kris is anywhere near match fit, so there’s no chance of him starting on Wednesday against Astana, but a 15 minute cameo, when the Astana players’ body clocks are telling them it’s after 2am, would go down a treat.

I’ve always been a bit more ambivalent about Leonel Messi than most.  “He’s not hit the levels of Ronaldinho” is my stock comment, and then there’s the dirty little subject.  (Tax).

But his media comments ahead of tomorrow’s International Champions Cup game, “I have a Celtic jersey at home. The games against Celtic were special and I want to remember them”, proves there’s substance to the man.

I’ve a Celtic jersey at home too, Leo.  A few of us here do.

Former-Rangers former vice-chairman Donald Findlay is to defend Craig Whyte is his forthcoming trial.

Whyte’s urban legend is going to be difficult to shift, but it’s not accurate.  We mocked Rangers fans a few years ago, referring to him as “Our Hero” but he never was.  He was the bag man for a very dirty job.

How he handled the SFA, Uefa, HMRC and, most crucially, the insolvency court, when he managed to secure the appointment of Duff and Phelps as Rangers administrators was crucial in the continuation of football at Ibrox.

It was Duff and Phelps who gave Newco the right to use the name “Rangers”, after which point Whyte could claim he was passing on “Rangers”.  Everyone else mocked this liquidation fantasy at the time.  Until liquidation became a reality, that is.

Whyte left Newco relatively safe in the hands of Charles Green, where it would have thrived, if it hadn’t faced a hostile and damaging takeover bid from its first week of life.

Our auction prize, donated by (the pretty fabulous) Celtic sponsor, Intelligent Car Leasing, closes just after 1pm today.

You can win:

2 seats in the directors’ box

Champagne reception

5 course meal in the Walfrid Suite

Fully expenses bar (pre and post-match)

Half time snacks and refreshments

Car Parking

At the game against Kilmarnock on 24 September.

Money raised from the auction will go towards building a school kitchen in Malawi for Mary’s Meals. It it will be the 5th CQN school kitchen.

Our four existing kitchens feed over 2000 primary aged kids every day. School attendance has increased 30% since kitchens were built, as kids attend for their daily meal. This has an impact on health, education and life chances.

You can follow the auction on eBay here.  Thank you.

I’m off to Aberdour now for the 12th annual CQN Golf Open.  I’ll be the one holding the jackets.

See you then.

I’ll be astounded if any criminal trials are held re the rangers liquidation and Sevco Phoenix

Will all be quietly kicked into the long grass with Whyte disappearing back into obscurity with his pockets stuffed full of cash, his silence having been bought

While the kingpin of the whole charade, Sir Minty of Moonbeams continues to stiff the public purse – see his planned housing and office development for the western green belt in Edinburgh

It was obvious the fix was in when despite facing criminal charges, neither white house, Clark or Grier were suspended on full pay by duff and phelps pending the resolution of this matter. This would be the normal course of action taken by any employer in the circumstances in order to maintain the company’s reputation.

As someone posted earlier, it’s all an elaborate sham to enable minty and RFC to shed 100 million quid of debt on the quiet while people are distracted trying to round up a herd of squirrels

All have played their part to the tee demanded by the orchestrated script, not least the SFA and SPFL

Kenny Dalglish will get a staggering pounds 80MILLION to build a Rangers Dream Team that will conquer Europe. The former Celtic star is ready to take up a sensational scouting job at Ibrox.

But he will only take up the megabucks post if Walter Smith stays as his gaffer.

I understand Dalglish and Rangers chairman David Murray have privately shaken hands on a deal to bring him to Ibrox.

The Scotland legend sweated over the decision for four weeks before finally giving Murray his word during the Champions League clash with Ajax on Wednesday. King Kenny will be given a budget of more than pounds 20million a year to bring the best players in the world to the Scottish champions.

The move is the key to Murray’s dream of making Rangers heavyweights in time for the start of a European League in four years. By then, Dalglish could have splashed more than pounds 80million on the cream of the world’s talent. Rangers are determined not to repeat this season’s Champions League disaster where they have lost four out of four so far. An Ibrox insider admitted: “Kenny will be given a roving role to go out and recommend – and try to attract – the best.

“We’re not talking about young or middle-of-the-road players – we’re talking the VERY best.

“Dalglish will be given an open chequebook to make sure the big names are made an offer they can’t refuse.”

Murray knows the name of King Kenny will not only help capture top stars, but will also increase interest from potential investors. The former Liverpool and Blackburn boss has lived quietly since he gave up his Director of Football post at Ewood Park. But Rangers’ offer has been enough to tempt him to the club he supported as a boy before becoming a Celtic superstar. The roving spy role Murray sees for him would NOT be a threat to Smith. Instead, the duo would be expected to work together. But, inevitably, there will be speculation that Dalglish’s presence will cast a shadow over the manager. But Dalglish insists he has no interest in returning to the pressures of running a team. He is bound to scoop a salary of at least pounds 400,000 as he’s charged with the task of getting players who can take Gers into the next century. Dalglish refused to comment on the move last night. The Record spoke with Murray at his Edinburgh HQ – but he would not to confirm or deny that Dalglish is Rangers-bound. He said: “I have no comment to make – this is not the way I do business. “Rangers have nothing to say on the matter.”

    KC debate is relative…..

I have reservations about him- his attitude and fitness for starters but in terms of creativity he’s peerless in the current squad. Now that says something about KC … And the squad…?

  25. In the 3 years I have frequented this blog you are guaranteed of two things from our host.

Nothing will be Peter Lawwells fault and Kris Commons will be praised beyond his worth.

  28. Goal scorers eh? Worth their weight in gold. Celtic have always had prolific goal scorers and when you are a wee Bhoy growing up your favourite player usually wears 7-11. With the advent of squad numbers it could be anything these days but thankfully our best goal hanger these days wears 9 on his back. Not on the shorts like years gone by but that is unfortunately the way football is. It progresses quickly. You stand still you go backwards rapidly. Leigh was never going to be heralded as a ‘blue chip’ signing but I had seen plenty of his scoring prowess to be delighted that he had signed on the dotted line for us at a very affordable price which provides ‘bang for your buck’ it took him a while to settle and he had some issues. It’s been well documented about some of his misdemeanours in his past. The lad is 25. He has made mistakes. He is now looking like a Celtic striker. Dare I say potential great? Too early but he can certainly be well up the all time scoring charts should he stay injury free. I love it when working class boys come and play for Celtic. Don’t care who they support. They give their all. They have a touch of gallusness and also the steel that is required to get stuck in when the fans demand it. Two important things happened on Wednesday. One was that we had 1 clear cut chance and took it and the other was that after a set back early doors the team got stronger as the game wore on. No easy feat after the journey the team took.

The other was O’Connell grew into the game and after losing his man and losing a goal in the process he more than made amends.

Brendan seems to be getting to grips with what he has. This is important. You can’t assess what you need until you know what you have. Saw a few of the keep, sell, loan, buy lists today but it still may be a few weeks early for that analysis. Like most football fans some of us are impatient but we have to be. We have to let the man work.

The signs were decent with a make shift back line. That team are no mugs. They don’t seem to possess the pace that a lot of European teams have that scares me. Hopefully Celtic will put this tie to bed at home.

Interesting article today from Paul on two subjects that are common themes on CQN.

Kris Commons has been a fantastic Celtic player on and off the pitch but I don’t see him being a first pick from now on. His outburst at Ronny last season was concerning and as good a player as he was or is I would cut him loose. His time which will always be cherished is over for me in a Celtic jersey. Kris has never been a major impact player from the bench or playing the odd game and if he has another outburst his time will be over in not as nice a fashion as it should be.

Craig Whyte – Rangers = Liquidated. Couldn’t care less what the courts do. That fact will never change.

    Hail hail

    LB

  29. Up_over_goal – Agree about Kris on the commentary. Just before we scored he was talking about them being happy for us to have the ball in our half but he said something to the effect that what we need to do was to switch the ball quickly from one side to the other. It wasn’t a great ball from Tierney(?) to Roberts but it led to the goal, exactly as Kris had hinted.
