Best news of the day? Kris Commons wants to be involved tomorrow against Barcelona. I doubt Kris is anywhere near match fit, so there’s no chance of him starting on Wednesday against Astana, but a 15 minute cameo, when the Astana players’ body clocks are telling them it’s after 2am, would go down a treat.
I’ve always been a bit more ambivalent about Leonel Messi than most. “He’s not hit the levels of Ronaldinho” is my stock comment, and then there’s the dirty little subject. (Tax).
But his media comments ahead of tomorrow’s International Champions Cup game, “I have a Celtic jersey at home. The games against Celtic were special and I want to remember them”, proves there’s substance to the man.
I’ve a Celtic jersey at home too, Leo. A few of us here do.
Former-Rangers former vice-chairman Donald Findlay is to defend Craig Whyte is his forthcoming trial.
Whyte’s urban legend is going to be difficult to shift, but it’s not accurate. We mocked Rangers fans a few years ago, referring to him as “Our Hero” but he never was. He was the bag man for a very dirty job.
How he handled the SFA, Uefa, HMRC and, most crucially, the insolvency court, when he managed to secure the appointment of Duff and Phelps as Rangers administrators was crucial in the continuation of football at Ibrox.
It was Duff and Phelps who gave Newco the right to use the name “Rangers”, after which point Whyte could claim he was passing on “Rangers”. Everyone else mocked this liquidation fantasy at the time. Until liquidation became a reality, that is.
Whyte left Newco relatively safe in the hands of Charles Green, where it would have thrived, if it hadn’t faced a hostile and damaging takeover bid from its first week of life.
Our auction prize, donated by (the pretty fabulous) Celtic sponsor, Intelligent Car Leasing, closes just after 1pm today.
You can win:
2 seats in the directors’ box
Champagne reception
5 course meal in the Walfrid Suite
Fully expenses bar (pre and post-match)
Half time snacks and refreshments
Car Parking
At the game against Kilmarnock on 24 September.
Money raised from the auction will go towards building a school kitchen in Malawi for Mary’s Meals. It it will be the 5th CQN school kitchen.
Our four existing kitchens feed over 2000 primary aged kids every day. School attendance has increased 30% since kitchens were built, as kids attend for their daily meal. This has an impact on health, education and life chances.
You can follow the auction on eBay here. Thank you.
I’m off to Aberdour now for the 12th annual CQN Golf Open. I’ll be the one holding the jackets.
See you then.

Messi didn’t cross directly to Suarez :)
Jamie wins the ball back!!!
Wouldn’t get too excited one way or another about this.
Corner Barca from break as we struggled to get players back.
Messi takes
Short
PR breaks with defenders trying to surround him.
Corner Barxa
Roberts outmanned by 6-1 0n break.
Stop making excuses for efe he is useless at defending
As I said BMCUWP
I remember decent debate as is normal with you but never heated argument. Still disappointed you stopped to that for your right wing pal.
Tell me. In real life have you ever met a Tim who actually holds the views of that tosser?
I’ve not. I never want to. And if I was unfortunate enough to is tell them where to stick their hateful view and walk away! They are not my type of Celtic supporter or any type for that matter.
MWD
Cardinal sin to boo a player in the hoops! If it wasn’t for bad luck poor Efe would have no luck at all!
HT
Messi breaks EOC stands firm against Suarez
HT 1-3
Ha!
My feed they are calling Paddy the ‘new one’ getting excited everytime he is in the ball
Hyer channel ( Slav or Russian language)
New Messi accroding to them
Efe against messi..bringing a knive to a gun fight
Paddy verses 5 defenders…..if he got it out of there…..there was no-one to pass to….
You make your own luck Efe is hopeless at defending
HT 3-1 Barca. They gifted us a goal with a defensive howler and we…..seconds later, ……….gifted it right back to them…….with a …….defensive super howler. Great entertainment!
Efe looks raging. Pair sod.
Izzy is playing well, as is janko. Brown and Bitton have also done ok. Roberts has dazzled and disappeared during the first half.
McGregor not quite up to speed, Forrest hasn’t done much, what he has done, he has mainly done badly.
Quite an enjoyable game so far.
Now, get Wednesday’s team off, don’t need them chasing these guys down for another three quarters of an hour…
Patrick outshining them all. Can see this boy ending up at Barca.
No’ a bad wee first half. Some good attacking football. First and third goals were class. Second was a bit unfortunate. Keeper has to tale responsibility for talking to his defenders and he isn’t doing it!
This is a chance for certain fringe players to make an impression and secure a spot for Wednesday.
Nir hasn’t turned up. No effort. Doesn’t seem to want to be here.
CM is making no impression on game.
James Forrest looks as if he’s just wandered in off Lansdowne Road.
So we are three down.
Enjoyable 1st half despite the score. We won’t play against movement and quality like that often.
Oh well. 3-1 down to one piece of brilliance and two lax goals defensively. 10 games played we should really be more up for it. There is a serious lack of communication and quality in defense and with goal keeper. FFS I was a keeper and I don’t think my mouth was ever shut. Every defender, midfielder, striker and guy on other side of city knew I was there. I wasn’t very good though. :-]
MWD
Make it a defensive exercise in the 2nd half, were
well short of CL quality…..but yees hopefully know
that.
Now, get Wednesday’s team off, don’t need them chasing these guys down for another three quarters of an hour…
’cause they are unlikely to catch them. However, point taken.
Celtic support booing a Celtic player. Disgraceful.
Ron67,
Aye we get it, anything positive to say about anyone in the team ?
106,000 expected at the Big House for Real Chelsea
@FALCOV60 on 30TH JULY 2016 6:42 PM
Yeah, I think it’s a fine idea!
We might be 3-1 down and disappointed but I thought we’ve played not bad considering the team we’re up against.
Efe scored the og but in all honesty what else can he do? If he leaves the ball and they score he is at fault, if he connects better it goes over the bar for a corner.
Up until the then I felt he our best defender, he was not just lumping the ball up the field but trying to pick a pass to a Celtic player, even if it meant dribbling past a few attackers, so as to take the pressure off our defence.
If we concede another few goals I would still not be ashamed of our,my, team. As for those booing at the game well that is not how I support Celtic but then again I don’t rely on the Daily Record for my football, or world view either, knowledge
Forrest not interested, nothing new there then…
Disfrageful behaviour by some in the crowd booing Efe.
Once again 2 shining lights.
Paddy Roberts
Leigh Griffiths
MWD
Disgraceful as well…..
Only a friendly against the best team in the world but one thing perfectly obvious- it’s not just about match fitness , it’s also about match intelligence.
Unfortunately we have a number of players who just don’t possess enough of that. Forrest, Brown , McGregor and of course Efe.
How many times was Forrest caught offside looking along the line ?
How many dreadful passes to nowhere from McGregor and Brroony.
And as for Efe – why the panic sliced o.g. when a quick look round would have spotted no Barca players in sight?
And what did Brendan say before the game about ‘close your legs’?
You can get players match fit but game intelligence – you either have it or not. I’m sure Brendan can see that clearly.
Still it;’s a friendly and enjoyable
It’s only a friendly but playing Brown and Bitton together will produce this type of performance.
Brown keeps overcommiting and creating space for them.
The imposter Bitton keeps passing responsibility to the defenders and doing his best to stall any momentum.
As i have said it is only a friendly but this is a constant when these two guys play in centre together.
They provide zero protection and no forward motion.
What size of crowd in Dublin?
Lymmbhoy…..eh?….mibbe a blinked at the wrong time….who was Messi’s brilliant crossfield pass to ;-))
This a great eye opener for Bredan Rodgers.
He will have a MUCH better idea after this game who’s up for it and who ain’t.
From that point of view alone – a worthwhile exercise.
