Best news of the day? Kris Commons wants to be involved tomorrow against Barcelona. I doubt Kris is anywhere near match fit, so there’s no chance of him starting on Wednesday against Astana, but a 15 minute cameo, when the Astana players’ body clocks are telling them it’s after 2am, would go down a treat.
I’ve always been a bit more ambivalent about Leonel Messi than most. “He’s not hit the levels of Ronaldinho” is my stock comment, and then there’s the dirty little subject. (Tax).
But his media comments ahead of tomorrow’s International Champions Cup game, “I have a Celtic jersey at home. The games against Celtic were special and I want to remember them”, proves there’s substance to the man.
I’ve a Celtic jersey at home too, Leo. A few of us here do.
Former-Rangers former vice-chairman Donald Findlay is to defend Craig Whyte is his forthcoming trial.
Whyte’s urban legend is going to be difficult to shift, but it’s not accurate. We mocked Rangers fans a few years ago, referring to him as “Our Hero” but he never was. He was the bag man for a very dirty job.
How he handled the SFA, Uefa, HMRC and, most crucially, the insolvency court, when he managed to secure the appointment of Duff and Phelps as Rangers administrators was crucial in the continuation of football at Ibrox.
It was Duff and Phelps who gave Newco the right to use the name “Rangers”, after which point Whyte could claim he was passing on “Rangers”. Everyone else mocked this liquidation fantasy at the time. Until liquidation became a reality, that is.
Whyte left Newco relatively safe in the hands of Charles Green, where it would have thrived, if it hadn’t faced a hostile and damaging takeover bid from its first week of life.
Our auction prize, donated by (the pretty fabulous) Celtic sponsor, Intelligent Car Leasing, closes just after 1pm today.
You can win:
2 seats in the directors’ box
Champagne reception
5 course meal in the Walfrid Suite
Fully expenses bar (pre and post-match)
Half time snacks and refreshments
Car Parking
At the game against Kilmarnock on 24 September.
Money raised from the auction will go towards building a school kitchen in Malawi for Mary’s Meals. It it will be the 5th CQN school kitchen.
Our four existing kitchens feed over 2000 primary aged kids every day. School attendance has increased 30% since kitchens were built, as kids attend for their daily meal. This has an impact on health, education and life chances.
You can follow the auction on eBay here. Thank you.
I’m off to Aberdour now for the 12th annual CQN Golf Open. I’ll be the one holding the jackets.
See you then.

Good pressing by Celtic….unlucky Izzy….
Efe could be the answer … Up front ?
JMCCORMICK
Why O’Connell?
Izzy doing no bad – love the guy!
JMCCORMICK on 30TH JULY 2016 6:35 PM
BBC will let us know that Martinez made an Ambrose type howler.
We don’t need BBC; Efe can do it all on his ownio! Mind you, either Gordon or O’Connell could have given him a shout.
The morons who are booing Efe should get tae………
Some wankers in the stadium booing Effe it seems?
VFR800A8
Unfortunately due to operation unable to ride my Aprilia Falco. At present hopefully in future. Miss the speed
Good idea though, eh
Real classy who ever those fans are
Couldn’t make it up.
Bitton strolls forward, takes his time, row Z
There was no barca player near so no need for effe to go for it. However Gordon should have shouted Mine mine mine. Lack of communication so not just effe’s fault.
EOC nice ball to Izzy.
Cross cleared
Nir awful shot.
Efe just go now, close the door behind you and take JF and SB with you
Efe did what Efe does, but a good keeper would have had that situation under control and be communicating with his defenders. Gordon is becoming less and less like the good keeper he was with each passing game.
Janko cross too long. The Izzy disease?
O’Connell can make some decent passes moving fwd
:o)
Janko cross way overhit
Ambrose again showing the lack of awareness and concentration that makes him a liability in every game he plays.
3-1
3-1
Efe tangles with Suarez. Free kick us for jersey pulling
Goal Barca as Suraez cut back to unmarked striker.
MWD
BMCUWP don’t remember ever having an argument with you.
See,thats why I don’t take you on ,bud.
And nor should anyone else.
You swat us aside and forget.
Ffs another goal
1-3. O’Connell makes good tackle on half way line so out of position, Bitton rather than covering the run strolls. Tap in
Brilliant goal 3-1
Messi and Saurez show class
Janko & O’Connell missing there but I’m sure Efe will get the blame.
MWD
Too easily beaten Efe.
Aye Efe should have taken the time to turn round and see if there were any barca players coming in behind him.
Getting outclassed here could be a cricket score, still making chances though and that’s a big positive.
Awesome pass by Messi to Suarez….takes it down drives into the box….delays a shot….and cuts it back….goal Barca 3-1 Celtic
This might be a long evening for the Bhoys. Yeah, Gordon does not look in charge at the back. Would not be at all surprised if BR took some action in that regard.
Dont want to say it – but Efe nutmegged and Baca 3-14…
PR nearly puts LG through, corner
PR put through by LG.
PR tries to find LG again but defender intercepts
Corner cleared
FAN A TIC.
Why not? He can see the picture, he knows there is no danger. Doesn’t matter now as Barca can take us apart at will. I know it’s only a freindly but Inhate seeing us get a doing.
Agree re Gordon
Does not seem to command or communicate as he should.
Unlucky Paddy….pass to Leigh….in space….deflected…corner….comes to nothing
Turned the sound down on ESPN.
Combination of Ian Darke not having the EPL to talk about, and so resorting to inane commentating and those roasters booing Efe.
Put me in the middle of them and see how long those boos go on.
PR versus 5 Barca players
