The gift of focus for Ajax

695

The last minute goal fell Celtic’s way at the weekend but Wednesday’s opponents, Ajax, were on the receiving end of the sucker punch, losing to a last minute goal at home to Vitesse, just a week after a goalless draw at home to joint bottom Waalwijk.  The Dutch champion’s only win in their last five games was at home to lower league opposition six days ago.

So what does this mean for Celtic?  It means Ajax have found various ways not to approach the Celtic game.  The last thing teams need ahead of a crucial game is an easy or flattering result, far better to show up your mistakes.

If Celtic take the lead, we might find Ajax confidence sinks rapidly, but they will approach the game full of focus, dangerous and with a point to prove.

It’s Christmas time…….

The Celtic FC Foundation (new name for Celtic Charity) Christmas Appeal has been launched.  The 125 Anniversary activities have considerably reenergised the Celtic Movement in getting back to where is all started – looking after those in need.

The Christmas Appeal aims to provide 150 local families who would otherwise go without, a Christmas meal, with gifts for younger kids.

The Celtic support will be helping people through Glasgow East Women’s Aid, Spirit Aid, the Glasgow Simon Community, Loaves and Fishes, The Wayside Club, Glasgow City Mission and Lodging House Mission.

Details of how to help online, and in person, are available here.

Offensive Behaviour Act

Scottish Parliament Justice Committee convenor, Christine Grahame, has agreed to discuss an Early Review of the Act on the agenda for tomorrow’s Justice Committee meeting.  Three members of the Committee are already committed to a Review, details on how to contact others on the committee – it has to be today, they meet tomorrow – are available here, on the Trust website.

  1. Nah – seriously !

When PL comes oot wi stuff like – “….if Neil is prized away from us then, we have to make contingency plans.”

Or words to that effect – like he did last week then, If I was Neil I’d be thinking – ‘tunnels are being dug underneath me here’.

Or – was this PL’s way of saying – “…ye can go any time Neil.” ????

  3. More clubs, and club chairmen have to step up here not just us and Peter Lawell if any thing at all is going to be done, and I hopeI am wrong, but I do not see that happening, we are on our Todd on this one, make no mistake about that, people are scared, and no wonder, think about who you are dealing with here, trust me they won’t go quietly, not a chances that’s if they ever go, which I very much doubt, unfortunately!

  4. ….again what I think would be effective is if others in the league spoke up first about the ranjurs / Sevco charade.

Celtic should play their part but it is in everyones long term sustainable interest if we hear more from the Turnbull Huttons of the world..

” And yet, if our Board have messed things up or are about to, by being guilty of more than just opposing the Resolution, then we will be forced into just such a choice. The dilemma is there- continue supporting and accept the game is corrupt or get out of dodge.”

That sums it up nicely. A testing time ahead for everyone.

    ————————–

My stance is that we will never change the prevailing anti Celtic attitude in the environment in which Celtic play and unless and until we get out then we must protect ourselves against that attitude.

It is no longer paranoia, it is a fact there is a natural demographic bias towards one club in the governance and in the media.

The media can be countered to some extent by blogs and forums but we must be ever vigilant against bias, deliberate or unconscious, in our governance.

Hence the importance of Resolution 12. It has already met one objective which is to tell the SFA they can be made accountable via a clubs shareholders.

It has already told Celtic supporters/shareholders that they are not powerless if they, like canalamar and morrisey want to put in the considerable effort that it takes to draft, take into account feedback (not always positive) then gather enough signatures to make an issue of an issue, and there is no bigger issue than cheating.

Rangers/The Rangers/RIFC can call themselves what they want, it matters nowt to me. what matters is that they have been exposed (and will be further exposed) as a club who cheated Scottish football, not just Celtic and unless and until we see signs of contrition and readiness to change, Celtic, and by that I mean Celtic as a whole, not the mad idea that we are not whole, must remain ever vigilant against the prevailing attitude in Scotland with regard to our game.

For the avoidance of doubt should there ever be a metanoia at Rangers, I would be first in the queue to welcome back the prodigal to the world of ethics.

Yeah – I agree with ye.

I look at it this way – fholk can say till their ‘blue’ in the face that

they don’t want to face the huns / animals again etc…

But, the point is missed that – it dizny matter if they want to or not

the fact is – the huns / animals will be back in the league afore we know it

and it will be unbearable to say the least. imo

The ugly side of this country that was seen in Neil’s 1st season in charge willbe nothing compared to the return of a hun / animals displaying the victim card and getting awe the

‘honest mistakes’ to get them in front of us. imo

    Only saying.

I agree wholeheartedly but for those not following the story an attempt was made on TSFM last year to get other clubs trusts and associations involved.

Only 1 club (ICT) and the CST responded. Nothing came of the latter last year because no bodies on the ground ready to take matters forward. That changed this year.

It should also be said that supporters of other clubs, including Rangers, have said they support the accountability aims of Res 12.

  10. Auldheid,

    Excellent post as usual.

Just wanted to let you know I’ve had several apparently unsuccessful attempts at e-mailing you.

Nothing of major importance contained….more of a wee catch up….not sure what the problem is…possibly my email.

Anyway, roll on a week on Friday.

It was very interesting to hear PL say in a recent interview that he intends to provide details at the AGM re. the steps the club took with regard to challenging the SFA in 2011.It will be good to hear how that stacks up against the evidence which has

    emerged since.

Maybe enough in the stuff you have uncovered to encourage the club to have another look at this?

As I posted earlier, not just us, we can not do it on our own, more clubs need to bang the drum, and it’s not happening, ergo: they will be back, unless there is a dramatic turn around of attitude from the other clubs, or thems go into administration AGAIN, THEY WILL BE BACK, and it’s not PL or the CFC fault.

You have said yourself in the recent past that remorse, never mind contrition, and certainly never mind metanoia, are not part of the mindset.

Some of the spivs quickly worked out that appealing to the lowest common denominator would bring cash rewards. Others, including Alistair Johnston with his ‘No Surrender’ comment and Malcolm Murray with his comments on the Irish yesterday, appear to have other motivations for perpetuating those particularly unsavoury elements of the dead club’s culture.

I consider it unlikely in the extreme that we will ever see any contrition from them. Therefore, they are going to have to have change forced upon them.

  15. Deniably 1024…interesting read and surely begs the question that it is just a matter of time before the Blessed Martin calls up one Jon Daly to lead the Republic, who would have thunk it? Tricolours at Ibrokes? The announcement should be held back to coincide with inevitable Liquidation. How in the name of the wee mhan do our guys crave association with this lowlife?………..no,me neither.

What happens to RIFC has nothing to do with Celtic.

Dealing with their return in a relevant and appropriate manner does and that means a change in the rules and the policing of them.

Reading the SFA Review for 2013 there are signs the SFA are awakening to this.

  17. Hi everyone, good morning from a rainy Cambridge! After a bit of advice, just booked flights up on 31st Dec for the Partick game, return flight is 7pm on the 1st Jan. if the match finishes at 5ish, A) are we going to make it back to Glasgow airport in time? B) what’s my best way of nabbing a taxi for the trip? Any help would be much appreciated, long overdue trip but I know what the traffic gets like after a match! atonyjenkins1@aol.com if anyone has detailed info for me! Many thanks!!!

The praise for daly is muted by their fans. If that was any other player he would have a song by now and the fans would be raving about him.

Jon Daly is tolerated because he is doing a job. They will never love him.

If you leave a bit early and head for Duke St-or better still, order one in advance to pick you up there-you should be fine.

The fly in the ointment may be your check-in time for your flight.

  20. Thanks for that mate, not keen on leaving early, first trip up for over a year and want to make the most but guess I may have to. Online check in and no luggage so hopefully that will help! How long is the trip to the airport usually?

That’s were the point is missed I’m afraid.

WGS was going for 4iar and wizny backed by the ‘bored’ to deny the huns the CL money. imo

The same happened the following season with BTM needing a CH at a crucial juncture of the season – DD decided to indulge himself and dropped Robbie Keane in to the equation right over BTM’s head imo – and DD got his just deserts straight away by having to watch Killie put Celtic’s title hopes to the sword in RK’s 1st game for the club. Thing is – why bring in RK when the newly or, recently purchased Rasmussen was waiting in the wings after a decent start ?

I think that DD’s self indulgence blew the league that season. Why not just bring in the CH that the manager needed ?

The ‘bored’ and PL had sat back that season and watched all the honest mistakes being made and listened to BTM taking it on the chin before we had our inteligence insulted by ole JR telling us that – “…we’ll no longer be sitting at the back of the bus!!!”

    Oh yeah ?

JR’s bull in a China shop type of remarks fooled only those who were / are taken-in by Celtic ‘boreds’ imo.
