The loss of our greatest living legend

1049

Sean Fallon was known as The Iron Man, a hard left back at a time when pretty much all footballers were hard.  I met him and his wife Myra at their home a few months ago to prepare an interview in advance of his autobiography, which is due for release soon, the hard-man reputation could not have been further from the character of the person.

He was the most generous spirited man I have been in the company of for years.  Myra is a force of nature, unquestionably the wind in his sails.  You have never met a happier couple.

The stories he told about how Celtic were transformed from a sporting irrelevance into one of the most powerful and feared clubs in Europe were incredible.  His story was one of huge and dramatic achievement.  You and I are the beneficiaries.

The players he signed are legendary.  Kenny Dalglish, who was in tears in Sean’s home the night he agreed to go to Liverpool, Danny McGrain, a person Sean could not speak highly enough about, and countless more.  He was a committed Celtic man but took no pleasure in the death of Rangers, such was his generosity of spirit.

Sean described Jock, himself and Sir Robert Kelly as a three man team who had the vision to drive Celtic forward.  He believed that when Sir Robert died in 1971 the club’s loss was significant. Nothing was the same again.

His own parting from Celtic, in 1975, was far from satisfactory, but if he told me once, he told me 10 times, “I don’t want a single word said against Celtic”.  The club that you and I recognise is the creation of Jock, Sean and Sir Robert.  They transformed an amateurish football club into a legendary movement.  He, more than anyone I ever met, never wanted a figurative goal scored against this legend.

Today we have lost one of the architects of all we hold dear, a man who achieved the Miracle of Lisbon.  His insights reach back into the depths of our character.  His decision to author an autobiography is a gift to you and me.  I’ll share many of his anecdotes between now and when it’s published.

My sincere condolences to Myra, son Sean and all the family.  We have lost the man who was our greatest living legend but they have lost a great husband, father and grandfather.  A remarkable life has come to an end.

  8. From video Celts. Wonder if we will get a comment from Hovisheid.

Conference clubs have no plans to discuss Sevco at their meeting on Monday.

Charles Green’s presented the idea to his favourite radio presenters, Andy Gray and Richard Keys, who pushed the idea all week despite there being no mechanism for the move to take place.

Ally McCoist and the usual subjects joined in the ‘debate’ but despite the hype it will be business as usual at Monday’s meeting.

Dennis Strudwich, chief executive of the Conference said: “The reason that I know that Rangers joining the Conference is not on the agenda on Monday is because I organised the meeting myself.

“It won’t be discussed. There is no letter from Rangers about this and no club has brought it up so I can guarantee it won’t be on the agenda.

“The main reason that I want to shoot this down now is because this is a total lack of respect for the Scottish FA and the Scottish Football League to discuss one of their (associate) member clubs like this.

“For us to even consider this would be extremely disrespectful to them and also to our own football association because we haven’t discussed it with them.

“Quite simply there is no mechanism for this. Rangers are light years away from joining our league.”

Any switch of leagues would require the approval of the SFA, FA, UEFA and FIFA. In England and most associations throughout Europe any new club must supply three years of audited accounts before being granted membership, in Scotland that rule does not apply.

It’s not my opinion …it is fact how they were treated …

Do you think they were treated anything other than shabbily ?

Re animus…clearly I was referring to their attitude as portrayed to the public …or maybe you think they did have animus against CFC in which case …they must have been treated shabbily …not unless you consider them petty

CFC do do wrong …I will not support their wrong doing ..during the 70s and 80s they did a lot wrong …the way you treated Messrs Fallon and Stein was disgraceful …I will not defend it …you do as you please

Blind subservience would have resulted in CFC going bust under the Kelly/White farrago

  14. Some quotes from an article on A revised view of the Celts

“The Celts were long considered a barbaric and violent society. But new findings from a 2,600-year-old grave in south-western Germany suggest the ancient people were much more sophisticated than previously thought. ”

“There’s also a bit of propaganda involved, since the Celts conquered Rome in the year 387 B.C., so they couldn’t have been so primitive,” Krausse explained. The findings at the Heuneburg near Hundersingen also indicate that the Celts living in the upper Danube region were more advanced than previously thought.”

“The Heuneburg is a center of Celtic culture in south-western Germany.”

“Experts still don’t know why the Celts were advancing quickly from the sixth century B.C. until the birth of Christ and then abruptly disappeared from the scene.”

My theory is that Masonic refs and administrators may have been responsible

  15. Juventus and Lllorente .

Torino based media outlets [ many are little more than Juve mouthpieces] are stating that Bilbao have rejected Juve’s final offer to sign him now [ he will join them on a free transfer in June]

Much weeping and wailing on Juve blogs re the failure to get Drogba or Lllorente.. One blogger commenting that ——

” there would have been more money to play with if that cretin hadn’t made the absurd decision to sign the the fat useless impacted turd Bendtner ”

Speculation is that Juve will now sign Roma’s Osvaldo . The support isn’t happy . They rightly see him as being another Matri or Quagliarella —–occasionally very good but mostly crap .

Very grey —— there will be a monsoon -way down south.

Thanks for the link, like the last few lines which just simply exposes the corruption in our game ‘ in England and most associations in Europe any new club must have 3 years of audited accounts before they can apply for membership, not in Scotland’

Says it all. A Masonic cabal stitch up to favour the Sevconians yet again.

    Summa of Sammi

In recent interviews with Sean Fallon note that he kept using one phrase– namely that “it was most important………” and then various things would follow from those words buy always to do with the well being of the club, the fans of the club, the image and the history of the club and so on.

All these things were things that he stressed by repeatedly using that phrase— in all that was what was “most important” about the man. His sense of value, his sense of decency, his sense of the common good.

There is a lesson there for all of us.

I had just looked on CQN when I Posted that.. Then see there was a Wee Debate about Similar..

I Know what I Believe.. And That is he Would Never Say a Word against ‘His Celtic’..

I do and Have Done the Same for Years.. Especially Especially in Print..

And I Include that the Pies were Cold in that..

I also Notes he Took No Pleasure from Rangers Demise..

Without a Rival what would Celtic be/become..

    Would Martin O’Neill have Came..

All I would Say is The Man is a Legend with the Humility and Principles that Our Children would do Well to Follow..
