The Mahatma Gandhi question

902

It was curious that Peter Lawwell was quizzed on potentially having a conflict of interest in deciding if a recent multiple-convict would be regarded by the SFA as Fit and Proper to direct a football club.  The club in question are not even in our league; conflict exists only in the heads of those who persist in believing in a ‘Firm which expired on the liquidation of one party.

I’ve avoided the appropriateness of a recent convict directing a football club as the deciding matters appear overwhelmingly obvious.  There are no written rules on being Fit and Proper, largely due to the Mahatma Gandhi question posed by Neil Doncaster last year.  Gandhi was a convict, but one of impeccable character.  The contemporaneous character references are all important.  The SFA will also be chastened by recent experiences.

My guess is that in the unlikely event the Nomads acquiesce, Peter Lawwell’s views will be immaterial.  “Nobody likes us, we don’t care” has nothing to do with it, just find someone Fit and Proper!

Delighted that Aberdeen’s quest for silverware survived Fir Park last night.  This club have underachieved for around 20 years now but Derek McInnes stands a reasonable chance of delivering second place in the league, as well as the League Cup.

Not so delighted at Hibs capitulation.  Despite playing like Brazil in the 1970 World Cup for the first 15 minutes of their home tie against Hearts last night they were soon out-muscled, with more than a few players looking miles out of their depth.  There is no compensation for Scottish football in Hearts progressing to the semi-finals.  They are mid-crisis and will remain so, irrespective of how they perform in cup competitions, but the absence of Hibernian from the genuine challengers is a regret.

Morton went down to a late St Johnstone goal.  They have now lost five and drawn one of their six games since winning at Celtic Park, their only victory since August…..

With this in mind, I’ll refrain from referring to the potential advantage of having a Cup Final at ‘home’ until we have earned the right to be there.

Dreadful news of Fernando Ricksen.  I hope he finds strength from those close to him in the years ahead.

The new CQN Annual is looking great, really delighted with it. Thank you to everyone who has participated in the project. You can pre-order below:

League cup semi final draw today, ties to be played 1st & 2nd February 2014.

    Anybody know where?

Should this not have been announced sometime ago same as happened with the Scottish Cup yesterday??

Heres hoping they can arrange something sensible for the teams & the fans

    =================================

As soon as they pull Aberdeen v Hearts out of the bowl they’ll announce it for Ibrox.

Green Lantern, yes, you’re probably right.

But I think when faced with a vampire you need a wooden stake sharpened until it is a spike.

When faced with the ole zombies the best means of attack is to ask them to fill in an accurate tax return.

They don’t like it up ’em.

Neil Canamalar. The whole issue being discussed was started by the cheating of the Old Rangers and continues with the Rangers the people connected with these two teams are in my opinion the problem and the cause of the problem. You can look at the football authorities and say they are complicit and of course I would agree for me its the chicken and the egg syndrome. If Celtic where to challenge the football authorities on there involvement it would still be seen as an attack on the Rangers and the whole thing would become very bitter. Much better in my opinion to as I said earlier to keep our powder dry and use our energies to explore ways to leave Scottish football.Currently in my opinion Celtic are playing a blinder on and off the park.I do not expect you to agree and you are entitled to your point of view but as I have posted I support Peter and the Board. H.H.

DBBIA. I agree with the ole tax form defence against those of a zombified persuasion although to be doubly safe I would suggest folding it into the shape of a cross.

As Liam Neeson said in the film Michael Collins – “I hate them for making hate necessary.”

Hate was something I was never brought up to do but that statement kind of sums it up for me.

That being said let me just say that I wish Fernando Ricksen all the very best in his fight against that terrible disease. The mental and physical anguish he will have to face doesn’t bear thinking about. No one deserves to suffer like this.

don’t normally post anything political but my niece posted it on facebook,

some people have very short memories.

prayers go out to Ricksen there is never a good way to die, this is one where your mind stays alert but your body fails day by day, only thing it does is give you a long time to say goodbye.

I recall a song going…….”cause thats my business….worry about your own damn thing”

The satisfying thing about it is we put them to the sword 3-0 when they had a full strength squad.

They shouldn’t even be on our radar anymore…….their grandchildren will be Celtic supporters anyway

  11. Yes Paul, Gandhi was jailed before going onto be a exemplary leader as was Nelson Mandella. But so too were members of the Chinese Gang of Four, and Jo Stalin before taking positions of power.

Referee apologises to Stuart McCall for a mistake?

When did this ever happen? Have Celtic ever had a referee apologise?

Refs make a mistake against Celtic, get caught… they go on strike…

  13. Fernando Ricksen – villain of the piece when he played against Celtic for Rangers, what did it really matter in the great scheme of things? I wish him all the best and that he never loses hope.

  14. Tax dodger, convicted criminal, glib and shameless liar – fit and proper? For The RFC tribute Act? I’d say so.

Leave him to it. The guy has £20 Million reasons for wanting his hands on the RIFC debit card and pin number.

  15. Dontbrattbakkinanger

If he passes teh Fit and Proper test, he’ll have to be listed with Gandhi and Mandella.

  16. Random thoughts alert:

Just happened to be listening to a compilation album of Bob Dylan covers by various artists. Elvis Costello comes on. And I’m wondering what people hear in this guy? Never been to my taste. He wrote a few good songs but he is not a great performer if you ask me.

What do you mean you didn’t ask me?

When did that ever stop me?

Down with Elvis Costello and his dreadful diction and half assed covers of good songs. He tries too hard to be cool IMO.

Maybe I should post this on the night shift and start world war 3!!!!

  17. Radio 5 saying Celtic not allowed to play next seasons Champions league qualifiers in England or Ireland….

  20. As for dave King and the comparison with Ghandi and Mandela – they got jailed for fighting oppression, King moved to Apartheid era S. Africa in the 1970’s got rich on the backs of the oppressed in S. Africa while the white govt were killing the likes of Steve Biko and shooting down students and school kids in Soweto. So there is a connection. He is defo fit and proper RIFC white underclass material. Allegedly.

  21. Afternoon, not posted for ages as forgot password a few times so re-registered to bring this to you attention.

Just been reading a report in one of the industry magazines I get about sevco looking for a new ceo and it looks like the publication will be on FF banned list

Readers of the Financial Times will have today noted a somewhat different role being advertised in the Executive Appointments section – for a new chief executive officer of Rangers Football Club.

Rangers, which is the successor to Glasgow Rangers, which went into liquidation in 2012 and returned in the lowest division of Scottish professional football, wants a new leader able to “drive the club back to the pinnacle of Scottish and international sport”.

you never know they might just be getting their heads round it!!

    Hail Hail

There was a time I thought Costello was self depricating and could take that, on one album he called himself LHC – Little Hands of Conctere, because of his guitar skills. I’m not sure he’s mellowed with age though.

That said, I think you need to listen to more of his material. You should also try and catch him live before judging his performances.

WG. I enjoyed that as we must be close age wise. I was at the Aberdeen cup final and remember the hooha surrounding it and the numb silence at home at the Feyenoord Result and my dad had hired a colour telly specially for it!!.But what a time to be a tim! As always of course. HH.

  24. Dontbrattbakkinanger on

Wee Elvis Costello did produce ‘Free Nelson Mandela’, one of the all time great protest songs.

  25. When reading the Judges take on Dave King it reminded me of Heidi Poon’s take on Mr Black (whoever that could be). Can’t remember her words exactly but I’m sure the summations of both judges could be applied to either the glib and shameless liar or Mr Black.

On Peter Lawwell, I think he’s doing a great job and would never play a game of poker with him.

Also good luck to Fernando Ricksen in his fight with MND. My mate suffers from it. Apparently there are 5 types of MND and 4 can kill you. Luckily for my mate he suffers from the other type but he still visits the hospital on a regular basis.
