The Men who sold the Jerseys, Geordie-hostility-feeder

889

Congratulations to Mark Daly and the BBC production team behind The Men who sold the Jerseys, who received the award from the Royal Television Society for Best regions current affairs and news event for their documentary into the goings-on in the years before Rangers descended into liquidation.  They won against Grananda’s Hillsborough – The Truth At Last, which centred on a hugely important human and political story, which illustrates the standard of achievement.

Television journalist of the year

Congratulations also to Alex Thomson, of Chanel 4 News, “one of the UK’s leading correspondents. With a portfolio of coverage from Syria to door stepping Kelvin Mackenzie over Hillsborough, to Glasgow Rangers, he displays great range and versatility with a knack for finding strong angles and compelling stories. He brings real authority and storytelling skills to whatever he covers.”

Thomson is a game changer.  Never has a UK journalist had so many people wanting him to stop asking questions, including many in his own industry.  Fortunately he appears to be some kind of Geordie-hostility-feeder.

Good journalism is important. Well done to the winners and those in their support teams.

  1. The decision on the Oscar Pistorius bail application will be delivered at around 14:30, this tragic story has all the hallmarks of a South African version of O.J.

Days and days, of argument and that’s just to secure bail, the ‘burglar’ defence was the most meteoric global testimony ever witnessed.

I know how the crash happened and what struck me was the number of Scots in banking and political level involved.

I was surprised that they at least did not say hold on I dont care what the mathematicians say about risk, this is not what ma granny taught ma mammy?

They followed when they could have led. Ok it was not just Scots but given what Scottish brains and values have brought to the world I was surprised so many of Scottish extraction were involved.

I thought we were smarter than that. I think we are smarter than that, we just have to remember the values that the best of our history was built on and lead, not follow.

  3. South of Tunis never heard The Poets live version of “Please Stay” did it top The Crying Shames” excellent recording? Hail Hail Hebcelt

I may regret this, but if you are up for a game one day on CQN, I’ll willingly make the sacrifice. Other people can just scroll on by (or email me in secret if they can see a way of aiding my predicament).

Maybe in the close season (football, not persimmon).

  6. INDEPENDENCE.right bhoys 50 years ago scotland and norway were both skint.2 countries nearly same size population ect.the black stuff and gas were found in the sea.scotland had a chance to vote to go it alone.the “don’t knows”won the vote.so we stayed with engerland and we spent all the oil money on what we really needed.wars, nuclear subs, more wars, public wedding, funerals, more wars, bailing out banks.meanwhile in norway they spent the oil and gas money on the population.you know the kind of unimportant things like education, hospitals, size 5 football boots for harold brattback.so 50 years later scotland is skint ,norway has highest standard of living in the world.£560billion surplus in their public pension scheme.

The alarm bells should have been ringing loud and clear when ALL the banks were making record profits year after year from selling opaque financial products back and forth. To each other.

It was like pass the parcel, but every time the music stopped, the prize became more valuable.

The contrast in mindsets of the Celtic support and The Rangers support ie the rebels and the “forelock to their betters tuggers” is an interesting dynamic in terms of an independent Scotland where the latter have a majority.

This is not a sectarian point but one of attitude.

Celtic will take so much from their display against Juventus, 0-3 aye OK?, but the next time it is likely to be 3-0 when we play them at home.

Yesterday was a shocker. But I’m no quitter. And modern medicine is so advanced now.

It was mindblowin’ to get introduced to the cancer team.
