The Motor Neurone fight 6 years after Jinky

824

Last month we heard from one of our community, RalphWaldoEllison (John), whose adult son, Tony Conway, has been diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, the same strain of Motor Neurone Disease (MND) that claimed Jimmy Johnstone almost six years ago.

Tony, John and their families now live in the United States, but they, along with Tony’s brother Martin, are travelling to Scotland this weekend to watch Celtic play Dundee United.  They will be here for a total of around 48 hours but I will get a chance to meet them and they are going to the game with Jinky’s son, James Johnstone.

I spoke to James last month and he relayed Jinky’s strong views on research into MND.  The fight against this disease will be won one day but there is a great deal of research and political effort required before then.  Tony has committed himself to this end.

This morning James Johnstone told me: “My Dad was my hero and I took great pride in the way he fought this horrible disease, it’s great to see the same attitude in Tony.  I know how much my Dad loved the Celtic fans and his answer to this would be to help get a cure for MND.  Hail, hail.”

I encourage you to visit Tony’s blog dontshrink.com, learn about the condition and leave him a message of support.  The Celtic Movement began by putting food in front of hungry children 124 years ago and it remains one of the most able forces for good in the land. We can pick up this challenge.

‘When Clydebank had a town council and before it was absorbed by West Dunbartonshire it was twinned with a french town – Argentille, don’t know how that goes now.’

I think it is spelled Agernteuil, which lies to the northwest of gay Paris.

The biggest similarities are/were that they both resemble(d) toilets, and I say that as a proud Bankie who has saved a fortune (in expenditure on soap) by moving over the Clyde to Paisley.

Gawd Keevins. What an idiot. :-) Did you not even read the Bain Papers? You can cite those numbers without any fear of legal repercussions

I seem to remember another film where two wee boys find a horse they call Tir Nan Og and take him to their upstairs flat. I think it was called Into the West, or something similar.

Radnor Hotel on Kilbowie hill still going I think, spent many Sunday nights there by leaving mass asap at St Eunans when they had Sunday night masses, but I think Clydebank and its people have suffered by losing its council status to be part of West Dunbarionshire

  8. been lurking lately and gathered phone ins have been a hoot recently, so broke the picket and decided to listen to phone in tonight. Well done terry, you are obviously battle hardened as you fought your corner well in tonights skirmish. One thing I would like to have asked shug is why “he” is not very interested in the biggest story in Scottish football’s recent history, rather than trying to label people obsessives. The story possibly only comes second to 67!

  9. Agernteuil, France.

I have just been dealing with a Community group in my area and that brought a fundraising method to my attention that I thought was quite good, you guys might have heard of it. I have posted the link below.

It essentially is a scheme you sign up to if you use the internet to purchase goods, if you go through through this site before you make your purchase, then these companies will make a donation to your organisation or charity.

I thought this might be useful if we wanted to create a CQN charity fund we could make donations to The Kano Foundation or any other worthy cause we think is deserving.

The community group I am involved is not particularly large but they made over £400 over the Christmas period.

I know Auldheid is working on a membership scheme but I thought this is something else we could look at because it is free money and it sits well with our charitable ethos.

This is the first time I have tried the link creator here goes

    Good Fundraising Scheme
