The Motor Neurone fight 6 years after Jinky

824

Last month we heard from one of our community, RalphWaldoEllison (John), whose adult son, Tony Conway, has been diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, the same strain of Motor Neurone Disease (MND) that claimed Jimmy Johnstone almost six years ago.

Tony, John and their families now live in the United States, but they, along with Tony’s brother Martin, are travelling to Scotland this weekend to watch Celtic play Dundee United.  They will be here for a total of around 48 hours but I will get a chance to meet them and they are going to the game with Jinky’s son, James Johnstone.

I spoke to James last month and he relayed Jinky’s strong views on research into MND.  The fight against this disease will be won one day but there is a great deal of research and political effort required before then.  Tony has committed himself to this end.

This morning James Johnstone told me: “My Dad was my hero and I took great pride in the way he fought this horrible disease, it’s great to see the same attitude in Tony.  I know how much my Dad loved the Celtic fans and his answer to this would be to help get a cure for MND.  Hail, hail.”

I encourage you to visit Tony’s blog dontshrink.com, learn about the condition and leave him a message of support.  The Celtic Movement began by putting food in front of hungry children 124 years ago and it remains one of the most able forces for good in the land. We can pick up this challenge.

    Well Said.

I would rather play in any other League, even if it mean’t having to make our way through a few divisions, than allow their preferred option to transpire.

Unless they are punished severely, then there is absolutely no point in continuing in this farcical setup.

Hope they keep it up and I will say what Terry couldn’t, I do hope to see the death of Rangers. Said that at work the other day and was called a bigot. When I asked what I would be called if I was a Liverpool fan and wanted Everton to go to the wall, I was told that was totally different. That was from a female Falkirk supporter!!!!

You’re not wrong there my mhan, a few monkeys uncles to boot!

Barcabhoy – you are not alone.

Work (goddamit!) has meant I have only been able to dip in and out of ye old CQN blogworld of late but have to add my wee bit of praise to the standard of postingness over the last few days. A bit like the ideal of the BBC it has been both entertaining and informative. Special mention to BRHT, James F, Barcabhoy, auldheid and others who I am both too senile to recall right now and too lazy to scroll back to remember.

    Keep it coming.

Bourne – did that buffoon Johnstone say that? I know i shouldn’t be surprised but……

  5. Can we apply to join the 3rd division in England now for the start of next season, if no sense of fairness regarding the Huns, then we are in a very strong position to say, that’s it we are off! Surely it would be prudent, a great bargaining chip and threat to anyone Inc other teams and the SPL to ensure a sense of justice. Just a thought.

Dalglish’s best signing has been Steve Clarke, he learned under Mourinho.Liverpool better organised these days.

  7. Don’t know if anyone saw Neil Lennon’s post Peterhead match press conference on Celtic TV, held at the tunnel mouth- aul Keevins is standing in front of Neil, his head almost resting on his chest, too close for comfort.

Hugh McDonald couldn’t get close enough for Hugh K cuddling up to our boss. Creepy.

  8. Stephbhoy likee a lot on here Voguepunter hates being told about the way celtic talk a load of tripe, the triangle you can take that ike a pinch of salt.voguepunter he just likes to talk a lot of nonesenses about rangers, he thinks celtic can do nothing wrong ,and that pub the vogue in rutherglen .like bits outside celtic park a DUMP,

  9. Here’s a thought – if the other SPL clubs are worried about losing out commercially and feel they have to vote Rangers newco straight back into the SPL why don’t we pre-empt that? We threaten an immediate and total boycott of all other SPL away grounds. That way there’s a reality staring the other clubs in the face and it might make them see things differently. We’d have to put that message out well ahead of an SPL vote though.

Yip, mind you, to be fair, it was a wee while ago before RTC really kicked off.

He argued ((exceptionally badly) that the tax man, and the banks needed to compromise in how much they could expect to get back from what

    Ragers owed.

  11. Can anyone tell me what the triangle is , heard it mentioned a few times in the last week?

  12. I cant believe how many people are saying we shouldnt buy any players – do you ever learn????

The other thing we cant have failed to notice is that cos Rangers are skint the media say we are skint – funny that eh? Our Board of course play up to that…..

  13. Neganon

    Quick, but genuine, question.

Do you believe we’ll win the league even without any new additions?

  14. Barcabhoy

If the Huns came back in the same stadium with the same strip, badge, fans, name (just about) and claiming the same history how does that legally make the a newco and wouldn’t that mean that all the creditors of the old company, especially hmrc, would go after them for the full amount they are owed?

It’s pretty much nailed on that they’ll get back into the spl, I think our best bet for actual punishment lies in the real world where the law of the land is what matters rather than the self-interest of a bunch of short-sighted football adminstrators and club owners who have got themselves into such a deep hole that they can’t survive without a morally corrupt club that have cheated them out of success for over a decade.

He certainly gets a bigger laugh from me…..thumbs up……remember a commentator on sky saying the three worst players in Scotland were Tore Andre and Flo, think the same guy said Tore Andre Flo 15 Henrik Larssons!

Glasgow City Council’s Executive Committee today approved the Masterplan for redevelopment of the Celtic Triangle, an extensive area around Celtic Park owned by the club. The plan encompasses a hotel, restaurants, bars, a Club Museum, housing and commercial property.

The first phase of the plan, which will considerably enhance both the appearance of the area as well as facilities available to football fans and other visitors, is due to be complete for the opening of the Commonwealth Games at Celtic Park in 2014.

This is great news for the club, who have been discreetly working on this plan since before others in the city went public with stadium-area redevelopment projects based on fantasy.

Take a lingering look at the surrounds of Celtic Park, the view will soon be consigned to history. Well done to Celtic and to the City Council for pulling the project together.

  17. the glorious balance sheet on

Just listened to Terry`s call on Super Scoreboard tonight.

The inescapable conclusion is that Hugh Keevins is a complete Elmer Fudd.

Keevins claimed that he had a duty to the law that prevented him from discussing Rangers tax liabilities/ financial troubles. He clearly implied that he could get himself and the radio station sued for defamation by discussing these matters – but while saying this he also jocularly remarked that Mark McGhee was “in enough trouble.”

So Keevins is comfortable making cryptic remarks against individuals that hint at wrong doing on their part and could be considered defamatory. But does not wish to discuss Rangers financial troubles – that are already within the public domain – lest he get sued. He clearly is confused and/or a hypocrite.
