The not-so-new reality

390

A few points you can take to the bookies without losing your money:

If Joey Barton bet on the Barcelona-Celtic game odds of this being his first offence this season will be around 100/1. This ‘news’ has leaked at a time of choosing, not days after the practice started.

Joey Barton is a self-certified rule breaker, but if his induction process didn’t cover SFA rules about betting on football, a large portion of responsibility on this issue lies with his employer. And it’s not their first offence. I know many of the faces at Ibrox haven’t changed since the old days, but rules are not there to be ignored.

It’s palpably farcical to suggest anyone other than a died-in-the-wool fan wouldn’t “prefer to come to Celtic” than go to Newco Rangers, and even then, Scott Allan jumped at the chance to pull on the hoops. We could take our pick of anyone from Murray Park, or a supporters’ bus on its way to Ibrox, for that matter.

The world has changed. No one would pay attention to a St Johnstone player who said he rejected Celtic to go to Perth, claims that Joey did likewise are equally fanciful.  Welcome to the not-so-new reality.

I do know that noone other than the season ticket holders can buy tickets in there so ot’s not possoible for say, you, to buy a ticket. Perhaps it’s the case that if you plan to go to a game that’s not on the season card then you have to buy your place before the deadline for season book holders? But as I’ve not tried I’m not sure.

19 league games and all our European Ties I’ll be in there. But for the games that I know won’t sell out I tend to take the opportunity to sit in different areas of the ground but still log on and buy my ticket under my own name (increases the chances of tickets for the semi and final apparently)

Nice reversal of the original, as the older bull suggests walking down the hill rather than running, thus spreading the love.

  13. In the event that anyone maybe interested here are some facts from Sevco v QOS.

Wobbly Warbo interview before game” Kenny Miller & Joe Garner have been BRILLIANT for us”. I shout at TV ” what the feck has Garner did for you, where is the factual evidence of this ” brilliance”..ditto Miller brilliance ?

Both of those ” brilliant” lads on the bench for a MUST WIN game ?????

In first half QOS offer nothing in attack, but their defence is coping very easily with a totally uinept Sevco midfield and strike force.

Half time, Sevco,- 3 efforts on target ..I goal that was perfectly avoidable but 5 QOS defenders switch off.

Sevco’s 2 other efforts straight into QOS goalie hands.

Second half- QOS looking to put Sevco to the sword by taking the game to them. Sevco not looking compy.

QOS come close 3 times. Sevco crowd getting anxious.

Ball goes out for throw in to Sevco at the dug outs. QOS had been on the attack, and Sevco player wants to take quick throw in on the counter ? QIS manager legally allows the ball to go thru his legs. Sevco bench and p!where outraged that this opposition manager didn’t trsp the ball and hand it to Sevco player to allow them to take quick throw in, whilst QOS players were struggling to get back.

BT Sport connectors pissing themselves laughing at the antics and outrage of Sevco bench !

They really are an embarrassment !

Forrester ( he should have been sent off at Dundee, but ref bottled it), is at it again with an ” over the top assault” on QOS player.

Yet another ref bottled it and instead if straight red that all pundits including Howard Webb the English ref describes it as a reckless challenge.

Ref only issues a yellow to hard man Forrester .

Less than 3 minutes later, Sevco score second goal, from that moment QOS heads go down big time.

This assault by Forrester is the turning point in match.Big Sutty and co ll agree it should have been a straight red.

Wobbly Warbo post match interview, he us asked about the Forrester assault ?

He didn’t see it properly ?

Wobbly Warbo bushing in praise of his lads, NO MENTION that this was a 5-0 game that should have been maybe 1-1 or 2-1 in favour of QOS especially with Sevco down to 10 men?

    Funny that.

Long may Sevco continue to be totally delusional about their abilities , as they really are crap.

There two main signings are not doing it, one us on his way out the other Nico Krankie, is well past sell by date.

BT pundits actually questioning whether Barton was signed by Wobbly Warbo, but King ?

    Interesting indeed.

Thank god we now have Chris Sutton prepared to call it as he sees it , even when it would seem to be contrary to the interests of Celtic.

  17. From the SPFL website, News section.

“Morton knocked Championship rivals Dundee United out of the Betfred Cup to reach their first semi-final in this competition since 1979/80.

They will be joined in the draw by Rangers(sic), who saw off Queen of the South 5-0 at Ibrox to reach only their second semi-final in the competition.”

Ok, I made a bit of that up, so that it would be true.

But making things up is what that website is all about anyway.

  18. Reading some of the interesting follow ups on the stadium build. To be fair this isn’t about the vision or ambition of an accountant versus anyone else. Whatever your vision is you have to cost it. I can do hyperbole and Celtic dreams better than anyone else, and we all want to empower more fans, but whether we like it or not each plan has to be costed.

Hence the reason I detailed the formula for the increment. If you build extra capacity then lower the overall average ticket price that formula is obsolete. Use the average attendance as a whole instead. You may end up with the same revenue as before even with more people attending. So who pays for the build?

If there’s anyone with a decent professional knowledge of what it would cost to redevelop the South Stand and add 10 to 15 thousand to the capacity I’ll more than happily feed back the rate of return that additional capacity would have to generate to make it affordable. I’m sure Celtic have done the sums time and again. I’d love to see the assumptions the decisions are based on and that’s where you can argue about ambition – a fully costed plan based on measured assumptions.

We’d two seasons with a section of the stadium closed. We’d a group stage in the Europa played to a closed top tier. We’ve a manager the fans love and we still have season tickets available. I’d love the stadium to be ‘finished’ as it were, but the assumptions on a structural change in football environment would need to be based on evidence that’s a hell of a lot more solid than dreams, ambition or a new marketing plans.

£7m for Lennoxtown required a share issue. Structural change is completely seismic to Celtic.

Now the cafe project I can understand. Great idea.

Would putting a second tier on the south stand have any effect on the pitch surface by blocking out the sun?

  20. It’s a fair point Ernie. Last word for the day, need to go and count:

    From Wikipedia

“The Main (South) Stand is now the oldest part of the stadium, having first been built in 1929, although a new roof was installed in 1971 and the facade was rebuilt in 1988. Translucent sheets were added to the Main Stand roof in 1998, to allow more sunlight to reach the pitch.”

I know we now have those portable lights that are used through the winter. Not sure if they augment or can completely replace winter sunlight.

They sometimes use special lights on the pitch to make up for lack of sunshine. They would probably need to do it longer if the main stand was 2-tier.
