The not-so-new reality

390

A few points you can take to the bookies without losing your money:

If Joey Barton bet on the Barcelona-Celtic game odds of this being his first offence this season will be around 100/1. This ‘news’ has leaked at a time of choosing, not days after the practice started.

Joey Barton is a self-certified rule breaker, but if his induction process didn’t cover SFA rules about betting on football, a large portion of responsibility on this issue lies with his employer. And it’s not their first offence. I know many of the faces at Ibrox haven’t changed since the old days, but rules are not there to be ignored.

It’s palpably farcical to suggest anyone other than a died-in-the-wool fan wouldn’t “prefer to come to Celtic” than go to Newco Rangers, and even then, Scott Allan jumped at the chance to pull on the hoops. We could take our pick of anyone from Murray Park, or a supporters’ bus on its way to Ibrox, for that matter.

The world has changed. No one would pay attention to a St Johnstone player who said he rejected Celtic to go to Perth, claims that Joey did likewise are equally fanciful.  Welcome to the not-so-new reality.

  1. My friends in Celtic,

Lots of incentives to enhance supporter match day experience should be debated.

Unfortunately for me, not now. Must shoot.

HH. To the best Celtic blog by a country mile.

I’m afraid that that your memory is failing you.

We played Aberdeen twice in April 1980 at Parkhead.

We lost both matches. 1-2 and 1-3.

The attendances were 40,000 and 48,000.

  3. I’m guessing there will be some changes tmoro night.

    Just how many though.

    Starts for Liam Henderson, Christie?

    Start for Jozo?

What about an appearance for Ajer.

Or should we just go as strong as possible

  4. Tiny Tim,

Was the 3 -1 match the one were Strachan was “accosted” by someone who ran from the Jungle?

  5. I recall ( I think!!!!) early 70s an attendance of 62 or 63000 at CP against Aberdeen.

    Maybe 71 or 72?

Pretty sure Eddie Turnbull was manager and Martin Buchan may have played. Bobby Clark in goal for them.

it sticks in my mind, I was 15 or 16, because it was the first time I had seen CP so full for a domestic game not involving RFC deceased. Made me think you good it would be for football in Scotland if teams other than Celtic or Rangers challenged for the title.

We lost 1:0…..and Bobby Lennox missed a pen……I think!!!!

    Happily we won the league!

I was at the game when the boy ran on to the pitch to eh, speak to Strachan.

I was also there when a girl ran on to eh, snog McCloy.

As to when it was? At least 6 pints of Guinness taken before taking up position in the Jungle in them days. Didnae know what day it was, the day after.

The ghosts of the Jungle were…… eh…….. Jaiked :)

So Morton and the rangers through to the Semi finals.

To be joined most likely by Celtic and either Aberdeen/ St. Johnstone.

    So even before the draw we can confidently state it will be;

    Sevco v. Morton

    Celtic v. Aberdeen/ St. Johnstone.

It’s not fucking rocket science. Just simple cheating.

  9. West End of East End on

Don’t start on coupons, Fecking Newcastle done my coupon for about £250 at the weekend against Wolves, previous week Newcastle won 6 0 away from home, Wolves beaten 4 0 at home. Newcastle were my bankers, beat 2 0. Play Wolves again tonight, win 2 0, not had one up yet this season…

phew, glad I got that of the chest…

    3 2 chelsea…

  10. Tally …..

Thanks for that….I could have sworn we lost!!!!

I do now recall Billy’s og. I guess a home draw felt like a defeat in those days. Suspect the Don’s may have been ahead of us in the table.

Funnily enough I also remember Celtic had installed new goalposts and nets. Posts were not white but steel or aluminium metallic and dark green nets and the old fashioned stanchions had been replaced by loops at the top of the posts.

Do you have a note of the teams and did Bobby miss a pen or was that another occasion?

“Er no Gearoid that would have been the Nov 1980 match that the Dandy Dons won 2 -0”.

6 pints of Guinness would have been an aperitif in the KSC Paisley. Any wonder I thought we had scored.

Alastair fair play. Well done. A blog open to all (and all the better for it)

  13. I was just thinking about Joey Barton and him assuming the game in scotland is pish and he would come here and rule the roost, me thinks he well underestimated the standard, I recall Henke saying that the standard in scotland is not as bad as the english hacks made out, this was when he played for Manure, they didn’t believe him of course, and when we beat the Blackburns and the Liverpools of the world it was luck, I luv it when they underestimate us, winkers, take their money away and where would they be.

I should have checked that before I sent it,apologies.

5/1 was what I meant, and indeed saw often.

I remember my Dad and I going to Hackney in the early 90s-aye,we’ve been going to the dogs for years!-and being stunned by the fact there were only five oncourse bookies.

They set the odds for the entire country. Based on a few oncourse bets.

I’ll explain more on 1/10 wi any luck, and my Dad will have similar recall. Suffice to say that in the days when mobiles were still banned, some people wi big wads were still allowed to use them.

Bobby missed a pen against Bobby Clark late 79/80 season.

I could have saved it,and I was well up The Celtic End at the time.

    He just mishit it,shit happens.
