The not-so-new reality

390

A few points you can take to the bookies without losing your money:

If Joey Barton bet on the Barcelona-Celtic game odds of this being his first offence this season will be around 100/1. This ‘news’ has leaked at a time of choosing, not days after the practice started.

Joey Barton is a self-certified rule breaker, but if his induction process didn’t cover SFA rules about betting on football, a large portion of responsibility on this issue lies with his employer. And it’s not their first offence. I know many of the faces at Ibrox haven’t changed since the old days, but rules are not there to be ignored.

It’s palpably farcical to suggest anyone other than a died-in-the-wool fan wouldn’t “prefer to come to Celtic” than go to Newco Rangers, and even then, Scott Allan jumped at the chance to pull on the hoops. We could take our pick of anyone from Murray Park, or a supporters’ bus on its way to Ibrox, for that matter.

The world has changed. No one would pay attention to a St Johnstone player who said he rejected Celtic to go to Perth, claims that Joey did likewise are equally fanciful.  Welcome to the not-so-new reality.

  1. Haven’t seen any posts from El Diego Bhoy last couple of weeks. If you are lurking EDB, Hope things are going OK for you, maybe you might make a short post to reassure us.

Off to Benalmadena in the morning any advice on where to watch game tomorrow night, I know The Bailey in Torremolinos is good for Celtic Games and I’ll watch The Killie game there but tomorrow after travelling the Mrs. is likely not to want to stray too far from base.

  3. The 1% state aided (ahem) facility is coming to an end and will be replaced by something significantly more costly. Would it be hideous to suggest that cash accumulation is as shallow as preparation for an increased cost of borrowing?

I like the strategic thinking, but there is no track record of that. Celtic spends every penny it brings in over any cycle, is a mantra of a blogger oft heard around these parts.

I acknowledge what you are saying, however a well executed transfer policy would enhance your chances significantly, no? For instance, I think the addition of experience and pace to our team this season, enabled us to score 5 goals at home to HBS.

Granted we will (more often than not) come up against teams that are midway through their season providing them with a slight edge. However, look back at the CL we have lost. These were not lost by bad breaks of the ball or bad refereeing decisions. The issue was quality and experience, imo.

There is no cast iron guarantee in spending to win, however if you have the means to reduce risk, why not do it?

  5. FAO BobbyMurdoch and BlantyreKev…Cheers Bhoys for your explanations.

I heard Joey tried to get a bet on how much the Celtic PLC have got…’resting in their account’:)

Could the stockpiling of cash = the long awaited ‘front of house’ development?

    New offices/ superstore/ museum & fixed gazebo?

  8. Interesting point. If there’s one thing any outgoing CEO likes it’s a tidy house and at the very least a perceived legacy. A museum, with the cash to pay for it, fully scheduled would provide such a thing.

  9. The Green Man says SACK THE Board on

Maybe Peter would have been better saying something like..’Tell all the Huns you know, that its gonny be ten in a row’:)

I know, if that is the plan, then great! But it would represent an enormous change of strategy, and I am not convinced the type of player we’d be targetting to put us out of sight of other teams in the Champions route are the type of player who would be interested in cutting short their summer holiday to play CL qualifiers in July and August, notwithstanding the wages they would command and envious players at the club who got us there this year. The cash surplus wouldnt last long!

Also, we would have executed the transfer policy over the last few years to better effect without this cash surplus – Brendans quality over quantity mantra should be implemented long after he leaves.

So with that in mind we can greatly reduce the risk anyway by not prioritising ‘moneyball’, going for quality, but remembering that negating the risk altogether is just impossible..unless we have direct entry or something else up our sleeve.

Time will tell anyway – maybe there is more to it, maybe not. Nice problem to have!

  15. Have rankers built that hotel and casino outside ipox yet ?….wait a minute, p!ease don’t tell me that this was yet another myth deliberately started to get their fans right inside ?

Given Barton’s conduct in such a short time and the manner in which Warburton has treated him, it is perfectly obvious IMO that both parties now seriously hate each other ?

It would be even better if/when Barton gets sacked that he De udes to spill the beans on some dressing room stuff, like current Sevco staff who may have told him things like, ” see all that stuff about us being a new club of ONLY 4 years etc, well most of the lads know it’s true and are pissed off trying to defend the indefensible ” ?

In any case we canny defend on or off the park !”

  16. Well done to Pistol Pete! He nailed the Joey-Hans Christian Andersen stuff right in the Bullseye. Am sure govanites are well impressed with the thug, since he has been caught scratching at Celtic’s door. Hell mend ’em.

These SMSM hacks were so far up their own blue A$$$holes. They believed all these fairy stories and put their monikers to them in national print. What clowns they were and still are. They will still, incredibly, attempt to follow the hard act. Says it all about their bigoted beliefs. A great wee country though ;)
