They’d all like to play for Real Madrid

754

Virgil van Dijk is a class defender, one of the best we’ve seen in recent decades, but there’s no revelation in the fact that he would consider moving to the right club at a more testing league; they all would.  The only pertinent fact about Virgil is that several clubs may put that to the test later this year.

The main thing to consider with Virgil is that he’s not likely to ‘Do a Kelvin’, and report as not in the right frame of mind to play, midway through Champions League qualifiers.  With Jason Denayer wanted back in Manchester, it’s important Celtic retain Virgil for the qualifiers, or are sufficiently compensated before then that they can confidently secure the early signatures of prime targets.

From what I hear, Virgil’s been more than professional in his dealings with the club.  He’s not running campaigns to leave and despite the plainly obvious that they would all like to play for Real Madrid, if the right move doesn’t materialise, he’ll get stuck in at Celtic for next season.  So it’s not time to reminisce on favourite VVD moments yet, like the time that wee boy bounced off him at Hampden.

Trophy Day at Celtic Park is coming up on Sunday, 24 May when we play Inverness, when the Foundation will be distributing badges before the game to raise funds for the enormous work they do for the local homeless, the world’s poor, those with autism, those with Downs, and many more people and families who need your care.

You can participate in our annual Trophy Day by volunteering to work with the Foundation before kick-off.  It is genuinely good fun and you get to step into the 127-year-old shoes those who have gone before you.

There are around 100 volunteers and we’re only looking for around 20 more, so get in soon by emailing cfcfoundation@celticfc.co.uk or calling 0141 551 4291.

Whenever I hear of a police raid I get an image of 2 or 3 police cars and a van full of coppers.

Anybody know how many were involved in the raid at Sports Direct.

Was there even a raid or was it a prearranged meeting

    ————————————————

Phil Mac G. covered this. I think 2 or 3 coppers turned up, had a cuppa and left. That kinda “raid”.

  2. Canny believe the amount of eejits who want, £10?, £20?, £30? million for, VVD….?

Who do you measure VVD against?

We’ve played – Legia Warsaw, Maribor, Inter, how good was VVD against those teams?

Hooper, Ki, Wanyama did the business in CL games and, the O## F### box-office games.

Anyway, if…..we did get any of the figures quoted above, how much of it would reappear back onto the pitch – THEE – most important part of the club?

  3. The same people who said Vic was a £10M player, same people who said Frazer was a £10M player, I’m happy to trust their judgement, the Celtic support are pretty good ate judging players value IMO

Admin don’t make much sense to MA imo, liquidation does as he owns everything anyways.

I still reckon that they have a plan, and I really don’t want MA to be involved.

IF and it’s a very big IF, there is a plan to blend again, dump the G&SL, then I can see much merit in this, as the hun have no other option as far as I can see, DK is what it says on the tin, a G&SL, who imo never had any intention of pumping in any serious cash.

As I said, only time will tell.

  5. The huns are in panic mode because big mike asked for his money back they seem to think the timing is to upset the team during the play-offs haha I wonder if ashley even knows about the play-offs ??? I wouldn’t think so

Liquidation is the end product of the procedure when Ashley puts them into administration. He buys the assets for a song first.

    I wasn’t referring to a successful administration process,more of a,well,Rangers one.

How can you call supporters eejits for wanting as much as possible for one of there best players, if you asked Lawwell if he wanted £10m-£30m he would say yes, will we get £30m Proberly not but you can still ask

  8. Administration? Liquidation?

How will SFA or SPFL react?

If they are deducted points, how many will be applied?

In the unlikely event they win their playoff games, will QoTS and or Hibs demand a walkover?

Another fine mess you got me in.

Your missing the point – how much of the money received for VVD would be put back onto the pitch?

GMS & SA were brought in because the stadium was half full….in other words, Celtics hierarchy will only slash the cash – once the horse has bolted!

Why not bring in, GMS & SA at the start of the season and we could have had a better chance of reaching the CL group stages?

Celtic’s hierarchy arent pro-active, their re-active in that, they werent serious about recruitment of players till 30k of fans disappeared.

  10. BMCUW @ 12:47,

Administration seems like a good option for Mike Ashley but can he do it?

    An tearmann @ 12:13,

Posted an interesting Evening Times article from the time of the Dave King takeover.

It seems to suggest Dave King (as he promised) would pay-off Mike Ashley straight away.

Of course when you read down it says he’ll pay MASH depending on the terms of the contract.

If you were a cynic, you could read that as – if we don’t have to pay it, we won’t.

So if the new Rangers regime were NOT in any type of default situation there would be little MASH could do to enforce re-payment.

The fact that new Rangers haven’t paid and that MASH haven’t issued a formal notice for repayment suggests this is the case.

However by requisitioning a General Meeting MA can put pressure on the New Rangers Board.

Yet to do anything meaningful he would have to get his resolutions’ passed.

That means convincing enough shareholders to vote to pay MASH their money, in return for the Clubs assets.

If they do, and the £5M isn’t forth coming within the 10 days, then MASH can begin proceedings to recover their money.

However it is unclear to me what happens if MA does not win the vote. Has he got any recourse against RIFC? If he did, surly he would use it now!

Administration might be MA’s best bet but I can’t see how he can force it.

Mangala cost 43 million and what a donkey he is, vvd is worth half of that money at least.

Good on Porto milking the prem and getting that figure but he is utterly useless and has been exposed countless times.

Aren’t the huns already in breach of the tens of the loan by removing Ashley’s two nominees from the board? There are probably other provisos which have been ignored too. He might just have been giving them enough rope.

  13. BobM

What I posted didn’t come over right, I know admin comes 1st, what I ment was the only way admin will happen is if the blender is the plan, as admin, and the hope of coming thro it don’t make sense to MA.

    HH

  14. Already asked perhaps….

Ashley has asked for his 5million back in the full knowledge that the new pioneers do not have the money to pay him back, so what are the options for him and them when they tell him that?

The BBC account only mentions what benefits will accrue to the club if they pay Ashley off – they make no mention of what will happen to the club should they be unable to repay his loan? Odd and blinkered MSM.

I thought that Ashley owned the retail business outright, but the BBC suggests that he has it only under the purview of the 5m loan? Could they have got it wrong on this as well.

Has McLaughlin of the BBC done any research of his own or has he just copied and pasted a PR release from a friendly source.

Someone else pointed out, the timing of it is interesting too.

How soon do their new pioneer board have to get back to Ashley on his request?

Have they got a big game coming up?

What I was meaning is that admin followed by liquidation, with Ashley buying the remaining few assets, removes shareholders, contracts, the lot.

  16. I’m hearing that the ‘new pioneers’ painting which was recently hung-up, and promptly taken back down, at the top of the marble staircase is to be auctioned off in an attempt to raise some much needed funds.

Both Christies and Sothebys were approached but declined to handle the sale.

RIFC spokesperson, kit-man and occasional bus driver, Jimmy Bellend refused to confirm reports that the auction would now take place in the Orange club in Kilwinning.

Hopefully we get some of the figures quoted on here.

The point I’m making is – how much of it will reappear back onto the pitch?

I think that Celtic’s hierarchy were prepared to sit on the FF money until, they saw the crowds fall and, then went and got GMS & SA.

With no CL-money coming into the club this summer, things could get rather interesting and, dont be surprised to see some PL’s pals in the media bigging-up the likes of Bitton etc…to promote sales.

  22. Rwe,

    Haha

We shouldn’t accept low bids when other players who aren’t up to much go for that sort of money. 10 million is a lot but it’s not 43 million! If Porto can negotiate that why can’t we.

hi-diddle-dee-dee(tis an actors life for me)

A proportion but we don’t need to spend big or hardly anything domestically and you can see Ronny is going to be purchasing mainly young players and has stated this. Europe we would need to spend to succeed but again it doesn’t guarantee a thing. It is wiser for the board to keep the money safe.

  23. Heresy I know but….

VVD seems to be able to play well within himself in the SPFL – just how it seems to me.

It might just be his style or demeanour but he looks like the big bhoy in the weans’ playground.

Sometimes he loses concentration, but seems to believe that he has the speed, strength and ability to compensate for and fix any problems that his lapses cause. Most times he does but sometimes… His ability is not in question but he looks like he is in a cosy comfort zone playing for us, which is great if we want to keep him, but not so good when we want to sell him. The very top teams will do their due diligence on him, and they are the ones that would have no problems spending 20million on a CB, but not from the SPFL.

We know that far from being a one team league, that SPFL means that we face cup tie games almost every week as the smaller teams raise their game to show us how big we are not.

If Virgil is to realize his ambitions and we are to realize our valuation then he has to step up a gear, and I don’t think that saving that extra gear just for any CL campaign is going to work for anyone. He’s more likely to get exposed at that level if he hasn’t raised his general level of performance

Otherwise he’ll be offered a fat paycheck from some middle ranking EPL teams.

Will Victor Wanyama move to an EPL top five side in the summer?
