Time for our other two international strikers

548

10 September 2016.  Five years ago today you were almost certainly worried about the absence of Leigh Griffiths ahead of Newco visiting Celtic Park that day.  In the previous season, Leigh scored 31 league goals in 32 starts and two substitute appearances, he was on fire and the indisputable top striker in the country.  No one in Scottish football has scored at this rate since.

When he was next available for selection four games later, there was a new sheriff in town.  Moussa Dembele used those games to make sure he became indispensable to Brendan Rodger’s Celtic.  From then on, Leigh, still only 26, would be used as filler.

The prospect of a month without Kyogo Furuhashi is not the news Ange Postecoglou wanted.  Pittodrie, where we visit at the start of next month, will be testing, as will the game in Seville against Real Betis and the home tie against Bayer Leverkusen this month.  We have two other international strikers at the club, it is time for one of them to step up.

    Thanks.

I know it would not be taken lightly.:-)

Curse this virus so I do.

    Your still a Celt.

    Good health

  2. So disappointing from what I am hearing.

Feeling it’s a good time to give Celtic a wee miss

    after all.

  3. BURNLEY78 @9:04 PM,

Sorry to hear that, we may have disagreed on the Celtic PLC but I did admire your optimistism and your support for those you felt deserved it.

To see you dispondent does not bode well.

    Hail Hail

  4. If WH won’t take calls on his fridge-phone — he does know what a growth agenda looks like — then we need to cast our net wider.

Then how about the bloke behind Brentford?

At best they are the 10th best supported team inside the M25.

They are overshadowed locally by a company that makes bedwear.

Consequently he could try his football magic with the big boys — aka us.

Fairly low entrance fee into global football — match made in heaven.

We get a progressive / growth focused major shareholder and he gets entry into real football.

  5. Burnley78,

That is disappointing – Hopefully Ange is oblivious (I know he won’t be) to whats going on and he can just do what he is most Excellent at, getting the Bhoys playing Superb fitba.

Something made me hold off, happy that I’ve renewed my support for the club with money up front . I was however mindful the club kept the ‘Pass for Paradise’ open.

I’ll login tomorrow, gobsmacked at the latest developments where I believe push was before jump.

Stay safe, glad you’re all well

  7. Who exactly on the Board,a collection of pen pushers,no authority whatsoever, would Dominic fall out with?

He was hired by DD,and PL,obviously given a remit to change things.Getting Ange in,getting players in with their approval,or maybe he did not need it,seems more likely.

    Nicholson,like the rest,I know nothing about.Only a temp,apparently.

Don’t see how it will affect the team.

More gossip on here than in the Steamies of old.Just wait and see.

  8. Most Celts I believe were in a good place

defeat to the stench not insurmountable

then this, have no idea what transpired

    board statement very obscure

gut feeling something major wrong at club why does Dermot operate in this manner

  9. Even though I have nothing but the greatest admiration for the likes of Auldheid and what he has tried to do over Res 12, I have not attacked the Board. I do, however, draw the line, if Dom McKay has been pushed out, unless there is a very very good reason. (And I know the Board acts at the whim of DD.)

Sadly, there doesn’t seem any easy way to hold them to account.

  10. shaunamura,

Dermot has obviously decreed, well thats my laymans understanding,

Seems like Dominic is way too progressive.

  11. Been saying for ages,Ernie Lynch nothing more than a shitstirrer.Knows what he is doing only too well.Surprised more have not seen through it.Has anyone ever met this guy?Plenty of Hoots in the past.He ever attend?.

Plenty I could call him, but,Sleekit, will do.

    Watching your film recommendation, Worth.

I’m guessing most don’t know the impact on families and partners of the victims.

The loss, the grieving and the injustice. Powerful film.

    Cheers

  13. Personally, I like Ernie Lynch. He deliberately plays devils advocate to stimulate conversation. I think he’s probably a good guy at heart

  14. Turkeybhoy,

ernie makes excellent observations and is critical all the Time. Your constant attacks on him (I’m assuming ernie is a Dude) are not only tiresome but are out of order IMO. This is a blog for people to exchange views, perhaps even change views.

I’ve been on the end of ernies wit and he is a clever cookie but Dude reign it in. God Bless :)

  15. Sorry cut off.So far its DD,then PL,even WGS got brought into it,this looking like MM post.

Not interested because I don’t listen to to any tittle tattle that can’t be proved.

    31003,

    Yep great film.Cheers.

  16. Tomorrow first day back in paradise

    because of family circumstance

still looking forward to the occasion, despite todays machinations

    come on the Ange ball

Once you’ve bought your season book your options are a bit restricted, yes.

But you know that when you buy it so it’s a choice you make.

  18. Was the invisible hand of Lawwell over this? Was McKay too modern for our board or was he really not up to it? Maybe there are genuine “personal reasons”.

Right now, it doesn’t matter because some people would have already made up their minds based on their personal bias.

Until we find out more, the most important thing is the return to domestic football, the opportunity to put the Sevco defeat behind us and start building some momentum again. I’d love to see Ajeti stake a claim and get among the goals.

  19. Right now I detest DD with a passion. An absentee landlord with ZERO connection with the support.

Paul 67 said one word tonight: Pushed.

Only one man can do that and it is not PL.

  20. In the statement there is one paragraph from DM, which is very vague and lacking in any detail or sentiment. The same from Celtic. My view is that is very odd and leads me to think there is more to this than simply personal reasons.

  21. Desmond is a malignant figure at our Club. I’ve little doubt he was the source of the ‘entitled fans’ news coverage we seen last Autumn. A man that left Lennon in charge to show us who was boss. We need him removed. I hope we organise and get him out the door. Because major shareholder or not, if the fans organise, his days at Celtic are numbered, whether he recognises that or not.

  22. For what it is worth, the story I heard (I know, I know), is PL was asked to find & shorlist candidates for DOF role.

DM saw that as his responsibility.

    Clash.

    Out.

    PL man back in.

  23. Bhoy From The Boyne on

    Stolen from elsewhere…..

‘They left Lennon in post a good six months too long but we’ve to believe that they’ve punted a CEO who hasn’t made any high profile f**k up’s?’
