Time for Paddy, Emilio and Kelvin

808

Tomorrow Celtic have a Scottish Cup tie away to Peterhead, currently second bottom of the Third Division.  Peterhead have recorded their only two home wins of the season in the last two weeks, so Celtic’s scouts will have seen them at their best, but the break from league action will allow Neil Lennon to rest players who have been carrying niggling injuries, including James Forrest, whose terrific form could be jeopardised by the stresses of carrying such a prominent responsibility for Celtic.

The game in Peterhead will also give fringe players an opportunity to shine.  I suspect Paddy McCourt is still carrying the can for hitting the post against St Johnstone in August, the day it all started to go wrong.  We’ve missed him.  Emilio Izaguirre and Kelvin Wilson would also benefit from 90 minutes football as the squad reassembles itself, although the game might come too soon for Kris Commons.

News that Beram Kayal’s injury is likely to keep him out of action for four months was sickening.  This is the third serious injury Beram has suffered since joining Celtic 18 months ago.  I read a bit about grade 3 eversion ankle sprains yesterday.  He’ll need the best treatment and recuperation in the days and months to come.

    cheers bud.

i also think we should adopt something of the Bundesliga thinking of fan participation during match days.

At most of their venues fan villages with food outlets, entertainment, dare i say it family freebie type things, are in evidence everywhere, even in just as bad weather as we have.

its time we properly considered the benefits of having the fans at the ground early.

I’m laying off PL … As I’ve made my point over and over. Anyone who thinks now being 1st justifies coming 2nd for 3 yrs when we could have romped it with better CEO guidance is deluded.

I accept the role of referee cheating but we played a part in our own downfall by accepting Willo windows etc…

Of course you are right, but without a team on the park there would be no support, it works both ways.

Celtic are a family, always have been, always will be, I have never stopped supporting the club good or bad, but times are a changing, the heart and sole is being ripped out of the club, money is becoming more important than the ethos that the club was built on, the partnership with those who hate us is a bridge too far imo, and any scheme to help those who hate us will kill the club imo.

Interesting post by Barcabhoy on RCT re the Board’s attitude to any attempts to parachute Newco into the SPL. They are dead agin it.

  9. and my last wee comment for tonight.

everytime i go abroad on business i take along something from the celtic shop at glasgow airport to pass on, usually just packs of pencils or whatever is on sale and cheap enough.

i talk scotland and celtic to anyone i meet all the time.

on arriving at any of the travel hubs around glasgow, were is the posters, adverts, banners, that declare Glasgow is the home of celtic, and that celtic park is wanting you to visit ?

were are the leaflets in all the hotels ?

    not for me.

hes not quick and mobile enough to play one up.

I dont have a problem with someone saying that Bangura doesnt look like a player. He hasnt played enough for me to form an opinion one way or the other (which is probably instructive of itself). However, there are too many on here happy to give credence to uninformed rumours (e.g. his age, signed the wrong player etc) as yet another way of critcising the Board.

I dont want us to be like the Huns, who stick their head in the sand and pretend not to see what is staring them square in the face. However, uninformed rumour, possibly started by a faceless, anonymous blogger doesnt seem to me to be particularly helpful. That said, Celtic are top of the league, put the Huns in their place a couple of weeks ago, so at least the Bangura rumours give a few people something to moan about.

PS An impeccable source told me (my source is good – he correctly predicted Pat McGinley was coming to Celtic, days before it was ever in the papers) that Peter Lawell was given the option to sign both Xavi and Messi on loan during the last transfer window but rejected it because he wanted the Huns to win the league.

PPS On another subject, there is zero chance of Celtic getting into another league at the moment, so resignation is not an option. The recent UEFA fin and everything that came with it certainly doesnt help, but, if Celtic were allowed to go somewhere else then everyone who played in a crappy league would want to do the same and anarchy would prevail – UEFA would never allow it.

PPPS If Celtic vote to give the Huns a lifeline if/when they go into administration/liquidation, then i will disown them and will be down at Celtic Park the next day to protest

  13. Always thought Daly was better than John Sutton but not as good as Sandaza. The latter always gave us problems and has been scoring for fun recently. I hope he does’nt sign for the huns.

Think we should also get Jonny Russell from Dun utd, he’s gonna be a cracker.

I read Cowans article in the Record today. In fact,I read it twice. He more or less accuses his team of cheating and lying down .There’s no

doubt what he means. He questions the decision to put Daley and Humphrey on the bench ,he called it a dreadful ,gutless, spineless display.

He says that Motherwell sat back and allowed,in his words,a battered and bruised Hun team to dictate the game.

An absolute admission of a lie-down from him imo.

Thanks for you reply. Apologies if it seems I am having a go at you guys who do a lot of good work. It’s aimed more at the club/board. Fair point about the spending being on the football side of things. Makes sense, especially since our income has decreased in recent seasons. Of course what we do on the park is always in my opinion the most important thing at the club, and with success will come increased revenue.

However there is I believe huge potential for extra income to be earned to the club and opportunities exist if we have the right people at the club to source them and bring them to fruition, which in time will bring increased revenue to the club and then in turn help the team. I guess a bit like the season when we did not go for Fletcher and instead only brought Willo Flood to the team. A bit of investment then could have secured the league, then champions league money etc for the following season or season. And also would have put Rangers in trouble big time financially.

So that coupled with In my opinion a slow decline generally in standards off and on the pitch we are where we are today. If the money is invested wisely and the right people are there to engage the fans I think the club could grow from strengh to strengh, but I guess perhaps on many occasions we have shot ourselves in the foot many times.

In my opinion Celtic football club and the Celtic family have huge potential, but the ones running the club at the top of the tree appear to me not to understand this, or do not have the ambition or talent to take us in that direction.

sorry to chop your post about a bit, but its very well put.

i am a simple wee guy, if i understand it, every match day, thousands of celtic supporters spent their money in town at BB’s, Juryies, and any other place between there and celtic park, much worse thousands others turn up at Celtic Park, and have only the burger van or the store,

its a revenue stream untapped, not fleecing the supporters, just missing them alltogether.

And your absolutely right. Nothing has been won yet. In my humble opinion we should just go about our business in a quiet professional manner. And hammer the point home to the players the fans that nothing has been won and the celebrating should start when we have won trophies. All the other things will then take care of themselves.

There is no advantage whatsoever to being triumphant at the moment and only sets us up to be shot down if we do not succeed. Why give your eneny that chance?

I share your vison and am encouraged by the words I hear that Celtic share it too, but am fairly well convinced that the problem is not lackof will or competency but capacity and greater capacity needs to be built to develop the wider opportunities.

In fact given what lies ahead I think it even more important the vast swathe of the Celtic support is tapped into to share the load of supporting right across the support spectrum.

Thanks for the update mate. I am just one fan and not involved in the Supporters Associations etc, so to read your comments it’s encouraging if the club shares the same vision, hope to see some progress soon. Perhaps a wee bit of communication from the club directly to the fans about what it hopes to do in the future would be a first step in engaging the Celtic community.

Bypass the old media at the first instance. Go through the new media, here, what about the CQ Magazine (what a platform that is to reach a large number of people), other Celtic websites, facebook, twitter etc.

And perhaps simply writing to the fans. Celtic still had my details from about 7 years ago on their database when I renewed my season ticket, so I guess there might be the potential to contact 60+ fans that way as well.

Let the old media catch up with it after that. Do what big jock did with the Celtic view, control the story.

    Just a thought.

Absolutely Dan and it is still my fear that this board will privately hope that a 10 pt. penalty will see Celtic over the line without spending another penny. There is still no guarantee,as it stands that this will happen. As you say, keep focussed, get a good proven striker in and hammer them into the ground.Let everything unfold off the pitch but lets get the business done on it.I’ve had too much heartache in the last three years to go through this again so Celtic, board, manager and players,it’s up to you.

  28. Finally caught up with all that’s been going on in the blog tonight !

Not too sure i agree that we need to sign anyone.

Buying in january, to me stinks of desperation.

    Bhoys r us,

It’s nothing to do with desperation mate. It’s more about reality and an absolute must to win this league.

If Stokes or Hooper hit injuries we are in a difficult situation. We need three proven goalscorers at the club.

  32. Tricoloured Ribbon on

If ever there was a case to worry about the game in Scotland it was surely the crowd at the ICT v Dunfermline Cup-Tie today.

    1,601.Frightening.

  33. T R

I agree this is a must win league, equally disapointed with the leagues we have let slip away in recent years.

I just worry that in the case of a striker he will take time to bed in.

I believe if we sign in january it has to be a player who knows the spl and the size of Celtic.

I would happily take john Sutton on loan !

  34. I have sympathy for the smaller clubs in Scotland but only so much.

Inverness has roughly 50,000 residents, surely between the club and the council they could think of a way of bringing the community together.

I always believed it was folk from Inverness , Aberdeen that made up the majority of the tartan army. A little bit of local pride is needed.
