Time for Paddy, Emilio and Kelvin

808

Tomorrow Celtic have a Scottish Cup tie away to Peterhead, currently second bottom of the Third Division.  Peterhead have recorded their only two home wins of the season in the last two weeks, so Celtic’s scouts will have seen them at their best, but the break from league action will allow Neil Lennon to rest players who have been carrying niggling injuries, including James Forrest, whose terrific form could be jeopardised by the stresses of carrying such a prominent responsibility for Celtic.

The game in Peterhead will also give fringe players an opportunity to shine.  I suspect Paddy McCourt is still carrying the can for hitting the post against St Johnstone in August, the day it all started to go wrong.  We’ve missed him.  Emilio Izaguirre and Kelvin Wilson would also benefit from 90 minutes football as the squad reassembles itself, although the game might come too soon for Kris Commons.

News that Beram Kayal’s injury is likely to keep him out of action for four months was sickening.  This is the third serious injury Beram has suffered since joining Celtic 18 months ago.  I read a bit about grade 3 eversion ankle sprains yesterday.  He’ll need the best treatment and recuperation in the days and months to come.

  1. Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas and World Cup and Champions League-winning manager Marcello Lippi will conduct the draw for the fifth round of the William Hill Scottish Cup in Glasgow on Monday. With hopefully Celtics name being in the draw.

This will be virtually three years to the day, since the last time Celtic were drawn to have a home tie in the Scottish Cup (the last time being on the 11 January 2009 at the draw held at Hibernian’s Easter Road – they were drawn that day to play queens park at Celtic Park).

Three years without a being drawn at home in the cup? Hmmmmmm.

hope the SFA big wigs don’t have time to expalin the ‘cold’ balls and ‘hot’ balls to their esteemed guests.

    CultsBhoy,

Totally agree with ye mate but nothing is certain especially regarding injuries and suspensions.I want to be KNOWING we are going to win the

league rather than hoping we are going to and for that reason alone I desperately want us to sign a proven hitman.

Regarding trying to get players out,I have no doubt we are trying everything in our power to get them out but teams simply don’t want them or

their wages are too high for other clubs to pay on loan.

    BRTH,

agree, but it takes money and we, as a club have struggled to get such money. i suspect we should have invested more in this area as well as developing better money making opportunities at home i.e. the celtic triangle etc

problems is we can only invest what we bring in and most supporters are short sited.

i for one would be happy if, for example, celtic sold ki for 8 million and developed the old london road school for 4 million with anohter 2 millionh going to such technological developments, all of which generates more income, over a sustain period, but i suspect most supporters would want every penny reinvested in the player pool.

if we need to sell another 5 players over the next 3 years or if we got into the cl and were awarded 15 million for entry i would be happy to see that money be used to build a hotel, another bar, restuarat etc… around celtic park, rather than continually going to players who get rich, while the club stall

each stage of development would increase income, and more importantly sustained income which can then assure better quality players can be retained over a longer period.

a little short term pain for long term gain is better than the buying and selling as a way to manage the income

still think we could win the league in the meantime

I agree with you in regards to the PLC Sleeping and missing the opportunities of the income streams through the new media. I also think they are missing out on potential income during the match day experience at home games.

Due to circumstances before the last Hearts game I was in the ground at ten to two. There was practically nothing to do. Could have perhaps put a bet on. The Rangers V Hibs game was not being shown. All you could really do was either stand inside at the Kiosks or go to your seat and listen to the music being blared out. Think there might only have been about 50 people in the stadium at that, certainly in the stands anyway.

I renewed my Season ticket a couple of years ago. I have found the match day experience surrounding the game to be jaded and tired. With 30 or perhaps 40 thousand plus at home fixtures I think with a bit of imagination they could be encouraging fans to come earlier to the match and perhaps stay later thus spending more money and increasing revenue that would normally go outside the club.

Perhaps more access to the bars within the stadium (not sure what the legal situation is there). A lot of fans go to pubs before and after the game anyway. Or more access to the restaurants, for instance you could go to the game and then book a table right after the game.

What about facilities for young children during the game, and the parents could watch the game and collect the children afterwards. Or having areas for the latest computer technology for kids, so that families come in earlier, spend a bit of time (money) there and then watch the game.

Appreciate that not everyone for either financial or others reasons might not take the opportunity, but I think it must surely at least be worth someone in the club looking at the viability of such things.

Agree re the facilities at and outside the stadium. Due to problems with ferries etc, I arrived with the young lad (9yrs) with about 7 hours to kill before the hun game.

Had to get a taxi into town to shelter from the weather and pass the time. Supporters from Ireland are in dire need of somewhere to go on match days and this could be a real boost for the club’s coffers if Celtic could provide it.

When in Oz, a few years back, a trip to the rugby league games included, under 19’s/21’s game, followed by the reserves game prior to the first team action. Plus bars around the ground also enticed people into an early entry to the ground,

Agree, excellent idea. And I am sure there would be loads of other excellent ideas from the fans if they were canvassed by the club.

And as Árd Macha has says fans, coming over from Ireland killing time (seven hours) before a match and then having to fork out for a taxi to the town to keep out of the rain.

I only have a short drive to the park, but I think from hearing stories like that, our fans who travel big distances are being taken for granted.

Since I have renewed my season ticket I have not been contacted by the club on any occasion to ask if the match day experience could be improved, or for that matter asked for my opinion on any of the services that Celtic provide.

In this day in age any good business should regularly be engaging with their customers to get feedback on their performance, how can they ever improve things if they don’t engage with their customers.

Hope things change in the future, but on observations so far I am not hopeful. Too many people been in there jobs/comfort zones for too long. Bring in fresh talent, proven business people who have a track record in these sorts of environments. But also bring them in on contracts where they have to produce the goods to earn their money.

  21. BRTH,

More of a wee Bloggs man myself :-)

I think the Karen Murphy decision has still to make an impact. There is still a degree of dubiaty about the ruling, and until that settles people will still pay the premium.

I did hear speculation that in the next bidding round for EPL , then Sky would buy the worldwide rights and then sell on in certain regions. Allegedly by having worldwide rights, this would circumvent the Karen Murphy scenario ?

    Stephbhoy,

I agree with your thoughts, but fundamentally you have to speculate to accumulate, and the best example that springs to mind is the time and resource that our host put into CQN and the magazine. I don’t want to come across as an appreciation society, but, I have genuine admiration for the way that people like Gerry D ( at NTV) and Paul B ( at CQN), were prepared to go for it.

They have a huge decision to make very soon ,make or break I’m afraid, and as I said earlier, the decision is being forced upon us by the hun and their cheating, stealing, lying and fraudulant ways, aided and abeted by the sfa, and the monkey media.

Resign Celtic and cast them all to hell.

  23. I’m sure Celtic are looking at better, longer term propsects and people who are better football players.

However, If what it takes to win the league in the next four months is to have a battering ram who can score headed goals on the SPL, I cannot see passed John Daly.

I can see a few draws being turned into 1-0 wins thanks to late pressure and constant crosses (or corners) being converted by him.

this notion of innovative business ideas to increase CFC revenue streams has been around for ever and a day – our board just don’t seem to get or want to get it

i had a discussion with Auldheid on this last year, only thing that seemed to go anywhere was the membership scheme idea but even that was only one of the many proposals and as far as i know, even that is hardly taking off – also, Jeanette Findlay says that only 2k of the 26k or so CFC shareholders bother to vote and that she has been tryin to encourage the rest of the folk to combine their voting power somehow via the Celtic Trust, at a tenner for membership of that in order to do so
