Tomorrow will indicate Celtic’s true position

271

Since ending their league season on 23 December, Bodo/Glimt have played three friendlies: a draw with Dinamo Kiev, and wins over Denmark’s AGF and Sweden’s Elfdborg, all played in Spain, each opponent is also preseason.  Their next two outings are against Celtic, both should be exhausting encounters for the Norwegians.

You and I have watched enough preseason European football to know what a task this will be for Bodo/Glimt.  Take nothing for granted, though.  Two years ago, after finishing top of our Europa League group, we faced preseason Copenhagen.  A draw in the first leg in Denmark was not enough.  The Danes, who should have ran out of juice before Celtic, scored twice in the closing minutes at Celtic Park to progress.  Norwegian sides have done well over five visits to Celtic Park in the last six years, Rosenborg drew twice and lost twice, while Molde won.

Celtic fans are full of confidence right now.  What we are missing is a test against non-Scottish opposition.  Drubbing a limp Newco gave us hope that we are watching something special.  Tomorrow night will give an indication as to whether that hope is valid.  I expect a far tougher examination.

  1. Our drop-off in games – our second-half vulnerability – when does it happen? – what is the actual extent of it? – how does our use of substitutes affects it?…..all is covered in the new publication of CELTIC BY NUMBERS – well worth a read.

Well, that was a very quick read back. What have the bulk of the posts to do with Celtic and, in particular, our game tonight?

  4. Was having a wee perusal of the Guardian on-line when I drifted down to the sports section. Catching my eye was a piece on the mighty Ranjurs in Germany tonight so I girded the ole loins and had a read. Overall the piece by Euan Murray was relatively balanced and not too gushing, but this bit caught my eye: ” Valentine’s Day marked 10 years since the club tumbled into administration, ….”.

Just couldn’t bring himself to use the Liquidation word!😁 Love their hurting. Anyway, onwards to Ange-ball tonight.

  5. Celtic game on Virgin Media 2 tonight for those in the Emerald isle – think they have Barca game before it

Today the DR files a headline straight from the JK Rowling wastebasket of shite fantasy concepts:

‘The historic Rangers rescue that almost never happened…’

Turning a liquidation event into some ageless emancipation!

Feck; that calls for some imaginative somersaults to salve their deep, deep hurt; lovverly.

We get a lot of compass jellies – horrible enough but relatively avoidable and the sting is just like nettles.

We do get those huns of the underworld Portuguese Men O’ War….but at least they are easy to avoid.

  11. Will the pitch have been covered or are these only used for frost (or not used at all due to undersoil heating these days?)

Could affect the speed at which we are able to play if pitch saturated

  12. Celtic slap down Stewart Robertson over derby tickets as Rangers are told ‘WE decide your allocation’

The Ibrox managing director announced 800 Rangers fans would be getting into Celtic Park but it seems he spoke too soon.

Does this mean, as it seems, that each Club can decide what number of away fans they allow or none at all? I thought there might be a rule about number/percentage, it seems not? Is there one for cup games or not?

  20. btw – try the sea swimming, the water is cold right now…and will get a bit colder still upto march, but it gets much milder pretty quickly, the old haw maws recover completely by May and then it never gets that much colder till around October.

Try it – seriously, you’ll never regret it.

  21. Bankiebhoy1 – Same guys. Was only there for a year or 2.

In VIC, don’t think we get Great Whites in the Bay – but there’s Gummies, Tiger Sharks and Threshers in deeper water. This summer, plenty of Lions Mane jellyfish – but the sting was like a small burn.

Fair play to you for Cold Water swimming: I know a guy here who runs 5km each day and has a 10min dip after – 365 days.

  25. MCPHAIL BHOY

All it means is that Sevco don’t speak for Celtic and only Celtic will decide on away allocations.

For league games, home clubs don’t have to allow away fans access. For cup games, the away team must be given a percentage of tickets. If Celtic went to Ibrox on cup business, we’d have the Broomloan Stand.

I saw a comment from a hun on Twitter yesterday. The discussion was around Admin. He actually said ” HMRC pursued us relentlessly. They must have known it was a case they could never win!”

Thanks for that, I had never seen it before. Thought dear John did well as he kept the emotion out of his voice as he actually reported factually what had happened and what were the repercussions.
