Tynecastle perfect venue for stumbling Celtic

396

There can hardly be a better venue for Celtic to visit after a poor result than Tynecastle. The focus, which was so badly missing last weekend, is always evident there. As a consequence, we have a remarkably good record at what, on paper, should be one of the more difficult grounds to visit.

We should also see a tactical tightening. The empty acres behind the Celtic defence which Motherwell were able to exploit will surely be better defended tomorrow.

The postponement of the Hamilton game earlier this month, together with the loss last week, has given the league table a more competitive look. Last season this scenario was too much for Aberdeen, who stumbled at Dundee. It’ll be interesting to see how they deal with the Highlanders this afternoon.

Delighted to read this morning that the Celtic FC Foundation are helping Mary’s Meals in Kenya, as well as War Child, on the back of the stunning success of their Christmas appeal.

What a club!

  1. My question is this if Aiden comes back where does that leave Armstrong ?

Do we really need another wide midfielder.

Do we not need a hard tackling pass making sheep eating midfielder?

    HAPPY HOOOOOPY BIRTHDAY to

    Lisbon Lion Legend Stevie Chalmers.

79 (which was a good year) but still criminally underrated.

Not by us. We know he scored 228 times for us. But his reward by his country was a paltry five caps. Which he repaid with three goals.

*and Pele swapped strips with him after one of the games, a feat he only did with the player in the opposite side who impressed him the most.

I’ve also mentioned on here a WC play off in Belgium between Scotland and Czechoslovakia, Scottish right winger, scott was unavailable, the back up was Stevie. The SHA in their wisdom selected zombie inside left ralphie brand instead.

Scotland lost in aet after being in the lead twice.

Hopefully it would leave Armstrong in central midfield, where he should be. If the manager is going to continue with the same system no mater what then we need players to fit into the system. We currently only have two wingers, one is injury prone and the other has disappeared from the first team due to a form slump.

We need a defensive midfielder, a centre half and a striker before we need a winger but the reality is we need all four.

  4. Gary67

    Armstrong partnered with Brown?

    Or Armstrong in for Kris?

He’ll have to step right up if he’s to play centre mid…

Agree we need players in those positions, the centre half would not be my priority though as with a decent DM the pressure would be off the middle two somewhat..

  5. Meant tae add that zombie swan diver wilson was also injured so back up left winger Hughie Roberson of high flying Dundee, who would win the League that season and reach the semis of the EC the following one, came in tae join his fellow club members hamilton and ure in the side. It was his only cap.

We listened tae that game in big Froggie’s science lab at St. Pat’s courtesy of my trannie. Lots of wee Tradamus Lampada pupils disappointed that day.

Setting your own agenda as usual,to suit your own side of an argument.

All those passes, aye,we’d have walked out and demanded better and more direct.

That’s why we still talk about the goal against Lyon. Thirty passes to break them down and drag them out of position.

Peach, pearler. Call it what you like. But Celtic supporters that night knew we could pull teams apart by crab-like play.

Now we just give them a chance to hit us on the break.

  7. Gary67

Aye me too but did we not play him in there recently and he was guff??

Wherever he plays he needs to rediscover his form quickly I believe or he’s going to be a benchwarmer.I’m guessing Joe Hansen might be off oot in Jan. A mistake in my opinion but there ye go.

    Strange days indeed.

  8. Starry Plough

Armstrong has been poor since returning from injury. He played well in the centre of midfield in the last 20 minutes at Dingwall but has been stuck on the left most of the time.

    Agree with you re. Johansen.

  9. Boro mate was telling me last night about the blog he is on.

They are at the top of the league and the supporters are still no happy, always complaining about the system, 4231, need to play two up front, the sideways passing, now where have I heard that before.

  10. HT – if you’re still about, my earlier post about Tynecastle being sold out was posted after a visit to the Hearts official website.

  11. Woooohooooo internet just back on, first since christmas eve. Good on BT, didn’t know they worked on boxing day.

MERRY CHRISTMAS ALL OF CQN and I hope you all recieved what you wished for.

Paul67, a special thanks to you for the wonderful way you treated me recently and the patience shown. An absolute star in this household. HH

  12. A wee sortie type and rare incursion to the blog but hey BMCUW at 3:30, in one pal, in one……..

    You nailed it!

Supercilious nonsense from a mostly well respected poster who, it seems believes his own publicity but really needs to be challenged and hey, you did, in a good and civil style .

    Flat cap doffed………

    Regards & Hail Hail

  13. Marrakesh Express on

At stenhousemuir v stranraer, freezing rain driving into the wee stand. Stood up to circulate the blood but pounced on by a jobsworth steward and told to sit back down on damp freezing seat.

£13 for the privilege but good game.

    Only in Scotland.

Setting your own agenda as usual,to suit your own side of an argument.

As opposed to arguing someone else’s point of view? Someone without an agenda? Who is that sainted person, pray?

All those passes, aye,we’d have walked out and demanded better and more direct.

That’s why we still talk about the goal against Lyon. Thirty passes to break them down and drag them out of position.

We talk about it BECAUSE there was a goal at the end of it. Just the very point I was making in my agenda-driven diatribe where I had the selfishness to argue my own point.

If there had not been a goal, it would have been 30 odd passes across and back to no purpose. There was tension and dissatisfaction during that move as we were 0:0 and heading for the final quarter of the match.

Peach, pearler. Call it what you like. But Celtic supporters that night knew we could pull teams apart by crab-like play. Now we just give them a chance to hit us on the break.

And have we lost that patience because of this fear? Could that Lyon move not have broken down at any point with an intercepted pass? Did we never lose a breakaway goal in the MON era?

My agenda-driven answers to these questions are Maybe, Yes and No.

What are your untroubled-by-agenda Answers to those questions.

P.S.- Hope that was just a sore head talking :-)

  15. Was that a bad decision by Collum? Willie Miller seems to think so according to the BBC web feed – and he is a better ref.

Mind you, a partially sighted arthritic 80 year old with two replacement hips ls is probably a better ref than Collum.

  16. Sftb…

Cheers for the response…I get your point with ball retention but there has to be a final out ball to complete the pandorous movement!

We seem to lack an end product, which drives me to frustration, along with many others. HH
