Uncommon penalties and chaotic weeks of back-biting

782

Kris Commons looked like he had put a lot of practice into taking penalties yesterday.  The ball was firmly hit and found the corner of the net, a feat which is far from impossible but which has been beyond various Celtic players for the last few years.  We have little a little over a month before we could face a penalty kick competition against Juventus.  Penalty kick practice should be on the menu every day between now and then, for the entire squad.

I’m delighted Lukasz Zaluska has had an extended run in the team.  No player will be at his best if he is seldom tested and never in important games.  Lukasz carried his share of the blame for last weekend’s Hampden defeat but not every keeper can pull off a Nigel Spink.  Good to have Fraser back for Inverness.

If you read on a Celtic site that The Rangers chief executive and chairman are “at loggerheads” after “a chaotic week of back-biting” or that there is a prospect they will “frighten the life out of those institutional investors who ploughed £17million into the coffers little more than a month ago”, you would be forgiven for discounting the claim as a case of wishful thinking.

When it comes from the Daily Record and recent colleague of the club’s newly installed head of media you can be sure there is a little more to it than that.

You would think with all the positive feedback Green and Murray would have received form the SPL Commission they would be flush with joys.  I sincerely hope, for their sake, that Phil’s Bridge over Troubled Waters ditty was more wishful thinking than another leak from the media team.  That would be embarrassing.  “Squelch.”

  1. i do despair for Paddy.

if we had his like in the 90’s he would have been a great great player. .

nowadays he just cant break into the team.

he should go, i was suprised he didnt last window.

if he followed mcginns lead, to united, hibs, aberdeen or a championship team, he would be a cult hero.

he haw to do with fitness, application, or whatever.

magic player in the wrong era

  2. DJBEE, the SFA do not sign off documentation that states everything is correct, nor would they be paid to do so.

The SFA, Reagan has stated that the SFA have no authority over anything.

    These auditors have been paid

  3. CowieBhoy, played well yesterday, did the job with no scare, Raith just sat back in the first half, made it difficult, but never threatened, they didnt touch the ball in our penalty area until the 56minute.

Could have had three penalties if we had a proper Ref. Commons took the pen very well.

Forrest with a great first touch, run and goal, Charlie with a curler from twenty yards.

Overall, job done, St Mirren away in the next round.

  4. theoriginalsadiesbhoy- So nothing is up for debate then?not much point of having a blog about Celtic then.

Is Hugh Dallas a descendant of Richard 3?

Most unlikely. Admittedly it was rather twisted, but Richard III did have a spine. Dallas on the other hand…

  6. Neveralone,

    No worries,

I am just a wee bit disappointed that a lot of the guys we sign take 4 / 5 months to settle ( Lustig, Wilson, even Big Vic) , when I was hoping for someone that would hit the ground from day 1 and be ready to face Juve.

If we had Wilson and Wanyama playing as well a year ago as they are now, I am sure we would have gone at least one more round in Europa cup last year.

  9. Gershon was signed as cover, was fit when he came, and is now injured. Rogic is a future prospect.

Neither signing, was with the CL in mind as there are other players in the squad ahead in the queue, and who helped get us there.

They were thinking if the fans… Celtic fans… Thats why its at such a shocking time of day. Why would they give a fug about inconveniencing Celtic fans?

  13. I know the auditors don’t but the SFA get all registration documents and players wages stated to them, I think. Did they not think anything was suspicious.

  14. I actually reckon the huns had a point not paying their taxes, if this is what we spend it on…

    http://the-thunder.com/airport-arres…-boab-escobar/

This time last week I was stuck in Govan police station. My Monday had started so differently as I soaked up the last sun of a wee winter break in Spain. Little did I know when I was lying on the beach that afternoon that a four-strong party from Strathclyde Police was waiting at Glasgow Airport’s passport control to welcome me back home. Arrested in front of hundreds of tourists and my upset girlfriend I was cuffed and dragged out to waiting van and taken to Govan police station and charged by the Hate Crime Unit for offensive behaviour at football.

My supposed crime? Apparently my hands were seen on the zombie banner at the pre-season friendly with Norwich and my behaviour was so offensive that a reasonable person would think it could have caused serious public disorder. After the international fugitive treatment at the airport I was charged and released for a court date later on this season, where I’ll join another of the bhoys who has also been charged with the heinous crime of allegedly holding a banner having a laugh at our former rivals’ expense.

The truth is I doubt even the police believe the banner could or should be illegal, instead it’s the latest in a series of attacks on the Green Brigade and the Celtic support. Earlier today yet another young Tim was cleared by a court on a charge the judge found no evidence to prove and we’ve even heard of cops taking their vendetta against us out of the courts and into the classrooms of schools where they tell schoolkids the Green Brigade are bigots and laughably use the zombie banner as evidence of sectarianism. This is not to mention a wide range of other harassment, from illegal stop and searches of young bhoys in 111 to vindictive attempts to stop our lads earning a living.

Shooting at zombies is not a crime. Neither is supporting your team or being in the Green Brigade.

  15. St Stivs,

Frank Munro was certainly battle hardened to put the ball in the back of the net, and a bit like Daniel Majstorivic, not too fussed at which end

  16. Doc – looking for a huge favour.

I have a friend coming back to Scotland, from the states, and will be home for 12th Feb.

Huge Tim (obviously) – can you check

Are there any of the Hospitality packages left (I think they were £180) – he said he will p

pay anything to be at game.

    Much appreciate if you check

    Bada

I didn’t say that. I pointed out the position as it affected Tom Rogic. I made no comment on Rami Gershon and I pointed out that I was happy to leave Neil to pick the team for CL game. I find posters team selections quite instructive on here at times.

    Hail! Hail!

  18. Could someone please explain the Paddy fixation some on here have?

We should have got shot of him ages ago, taking up a place in the squad that could be utilised by one of our youngsters.

In his years at the club you can count his meaningful contributions on one hand, is it just me who thinks this?

    HH

  19. Gershon played for the under 20’s tonight. Rogic played for 80 minutes wouldn’t be surprised to see one or both playing a part against ICT next Sat.

  20. CowieBhoy, non available on the website.

I should have a quiet morning, I’ll give them a call then.

More Snow coming, watch and not get sunburnt.

Do you have your mobile with you, if not check here around 10am.

  21. Cowiebhoy, if you are talking about a Hospitality package which includes a ticket, it will cost substantially more then that.

  22. Jerome

He is not good enough to play at top level even in Scotland Yes i would have Ledley Kayal Brown every day of the week before someone like Mccourt Team players who can contribute week in week out and then let genuinely talented players like Forrest and Commons give us something different

I have seen him come on a number of occassions and do absolutely nothing including at Hibs Ive seen him come on at tannadice and give the ball away unneccessarily and ultimately cost us 2 points

Yes ive seen him come on and make winner at Motherwell but in 4 years and 3 managers i can count on 1 hand games he has contributed to!

Its just my opinion but after playing coaching watching football for 40 years i think i know a player when i see one and for me McCourt might be a 2nd division English league player at best

  23. Doc & corkcelt,

there was tickets with access to the lounges at that price – not full hospitality.

Doc – no didn’t bring phone, off work for 3 weeks, not having them phone me or me reading through work e-mails etc. Incidentally 10 – is 5 in morning here, and I aint joining the moon howlers

Outwith Celtic, a total chill for me.

    Hail Hail

  24. Just finishing off issue 13 of CQN Magazine and it will be with you in a day or two. In this edition we cover 1771 Miles in May, all the way to Seville. There’s a Hymn for the Dawn of the Free – as the Celtic star shines brightly in the early 60s. In Dirty Brown Brogues, we meet the man who took the Rangers billionaire to court and is still waiting for his cash. Brogan Rogan Trevino and Hogan looks again at the Big Tax Case and tries to explain the the banking arrangements the former club enjoyed. We pay tribute to Celtic legend Sean Fallon who is our cover star, twelve issues after Jock got us started. Sean too cast a shadow. We cover both the 1254125 and Wee Oscar campaigns and review Celtic from Arbroath to Raith Rovers. Oh and there may well be a wee mention of the Old Lady we’re entertaining shortly in Paradise!

Had to drive to a meeting tonight 7-10, so first chance to comment….But I was near vomiting on the way there as I heard Keevins, defend Traynor, with Johnstone gibbering away in the back..

Moreover Allison Robbies piece was psycophantic in the extreme ..

    Creepy,creepy people..

  26. theoriginalsadiesbhoy-I know Rogic was back home sorting things out.I would think Tom and Gershon’s fitness would be decent. The return game v Juve is a month away,i thought we would bring guys in to give us something a wee bit different.I think Rogic might have given us that.HH.

  27. Cowiebhoy, I’m looking for a Ticket as well. There are none available. The Full Hospitality package for Barca was £300 plus VAT. I believe its even dearer for Juventus game thats even if there are any spots left.
