Uncommon penalties and chaotic weeks of back-biting

782

Kris Commons looked like he had put a lot of practice into taking penalties yesterday.  The ball was firmly hit and found the corner of the net, a feat which is far from impossible but which has been beyond various Celtic players for the last few years.  We have little a little over a month before we could face a penalty kick competition against Juventus.  Penalty kick practice should be on the menu every day between now and then, for the entire squad.

I’m delighted Lukasz Zaluska has had an extended run in the team.  No player will be at his best if he is seldom tested and never in important games.  Lukasz carried his share of the blame for last weekend’s Hampden defeat but not every keeper can pull off a Nigel Spink.  Good to have Fraser back for Inverness.

If you read on a Celtic site that The Rangers chief executive and chairman are “at loggerheads” after “a chaotic week of back-biting” or that there is a prospect they will “frighten the life out of those institutional investors who ploughed £17million into the coffers little more than a month ago”, you would be forgiven for discounting the claim as a case of wishful thinking.

When it comes from the Daily Record and recent colleague of the club’s newly installed head of media you can be sure there is a little more to it than that.

You would think with all the positive feedback Green and Murray would have received form the SPL Commission they would be flush with joys.  I sincerely hope, for their sake, that Phil’s Bridge over Troubled Waters ditty was more wishful thinking than another leak from the media team.  That would be embarrassing.  “Squelch.”

tell you one thing……….BDJ is not ‘appealing’, along with sally, greengo and the rest of them, desparately trying to keep ‘interest’ alive…… But they’re losing their battle ……it’s coming to themall….good night, fellow thims…

  2. I have not got anything positive to say about CQN’s still to be discovered Brian Cloughs & Alex Fergusons, who apparently feel comfortable about dismissing one of our most gifted & entertaining players.

I will therefore say NOTHING about them.

I don’t suppose that will catch on.

Paddy has had chances to get more football at other clubs but has chosen to stay. He is on a great negotiating position given he hardly plays- Neil can hardly threaten to freeze him out?

Adam imo is one of the top players at the club. We are now discovering the goal threat that he also presents to the opposition. The lad is a superstar in the making and keeps himself in great shape. He looks every inch a professional footballer.

To answer your question, in honesty, it’s based on how he played against Barca. I don’t really have an idea how Juve will line up against us or who Adam would face in a head to head but I agree with you about his versatility.

I think you are purposely blind to what you see on the pitch.

If you can’t see the footballer in Paddy I despair. He is one of the most naturally gifted ball players at he club whether that be in his passing ability or in his dribbling skills.

Do you never notice the sense of expectation amongst the fans whenever he gets the ball.

People don’t have any expectations off duds.

Paddy does have that special something. We mightn’t see it enough but he definitely has it.

Just poured a very large low flyer. Canny beat the old house measure can you?? <:o)

  10. When he’s on form Paddy gets fans off their seats.

There’s not many players do that these days.

  11. CultsBhoy loves being 1st forever & ever on

Nobody denying Paddy’s natural ability but its difficult to make a case for him. A view shared by Lenny it appears?

  12. As far as I know Paddy is out of contract at end of season, I don’t expect it will be renewed so why keep slagging him. He did his best when he got game time there were plenty of lads on bigger money and did less. He is a genuine Celt, there is nothing can be done now, the transfer window is closed so whats the point of debating the pros & cons.

Agree it’s all academic. Hopefully Paddy has set himself up financially and he has lived the dream.

    Good luck to him!

As a fan, as someone who desperately wants to win the game, I want Paddy to come on.

Not just because the beauty in his play warms my soul, not just that the fans will get a boost, and not just that the players know that there is a potential genius on their side now.

Just because I want to win.

  15. Theoriginalsadiesbhoy

I just wonder if Adam’s best position might be central midfield – he has all the attributes – good pace, good passer, can score from distance, tenacious , and very good on the recovery tackle. …not altogether dissimilar from Broony ?

  17. I’ll tell you one thing about Paddy McCourt, he doesn’t hang about near the windows of his house. Never see him.

McCourt will continue to fascinate even after he leaves as he is a football genius. Obviously a flawed genius as he has had a few years to put right any lack of fitness and has failed to do so.

He’s a Celtic man living the dream. He will fascinate as we all wonder how good he could have been..
