Uncommon penalties and chaotic weeks of back-biting

782

Kris Commons looked like he had put a lot of practice into taking penalties yesterday.  The ball was firmly hit and found the corner of the net, a feat which is far from impossible but which has been beyond various Celtic players for the last few years.  We have little a little over a month before we could face a penalty kick competition against Juventus.  Penalty kick practice should be on the menu every day between now and then, for the entire squad.

I’m delighted Lukasz Zaluska has had an extended run in the team.  No player will be at his best if he is seldom tested and never in important games.  Lukasz carried his share of the blame for last weekend’s Hampden defeat but not every keeper can pull off a Nigel Spink.  Good to have Fraser back for Inverness.

If you read on a Celtic site that The Rangers chief executive and chairman are “at loggerheads” after “a chaotic week of back-biting” or that there is a prospect they will “frighten the life out of those institutional investors who ploughed £17million into the coffers little more than a month ago”, you would be forgiven for discounting the claim as a case of wishful thinking.

When it comes from the Daily Record and recent colleague of the club’s newly installed head of media you can be sure there is a little more to it than that.

You would think with all the positive feedback Green and Murray would have received form the SPL Commission they would be flush with joys.  I sincerely hope, for their sake, that Phil’s Bridge over Troubled Waters ditty was more wishful thinking than another leak from the media team.  That would be embarrassing.  “Squelch.”

  1. CowieBhoy,

There are some hospitality tickets available for the Juve game.

They are offsite hospitality at Club29, meal and half bottle of vino, coach transfer to the ground. Match ticket, in the ordinary seats, coach return to Club29 and a drink.

£325 plus VAT. Call08712261888, option 1, then option 2, and ask for hospitality tickets, they’ll put you through. They aren’t available online.

I spoke to Laura Ann at Hospitality, there are a good few left, but enquiries are coming in quickly, they don’t expect them to last long.

There are also some website offering tickets, starting at 4 times face value. Touts I believe they are called. Good luck to your mate.

    Get up ya lazy Bhoy.

    Watch out for the sun;-)

Posted on here last week about the real figure that chuckles had raised , I was told it was just less than 9m

Chuckles is now trying to fill in the gaps with his trip abroad, Malcolm Murray, the first to leave the sinking ship?

Surely your not saying that chuckles has been creative with the accounts??

Are you trying to imply that he has thon Housemunchers’ syndrome?

If chuckles says he has 22 big ones then that’s good enough for me!

That is what I thought initially, but it seems people do include what they think is a solid pledge and that is the problem for chuck

I was told this is not the first time that the investors from the far east have done this , I am trying to understand what benefit that they would get out of it.

    crushed nuts?’ ‘Naw, Layringitis!’

I dont think the huns need to worry, chuckles being a man of his word stated that he would buy the remaining unsold shares , so no problem.

Been told him and lennon havent been pn speaking terms recently.

To be honest im a big fan but wanted him to leave long ago so i could admire his undoubted talent more often.

I dont think he was given as many chances as alot of others who failed more times over him.. And that was in 90 mins of play.

The goals paddy has scores for us only he can do.

Sums up football these days when players who do little else but pass a ball sideways 10yrds are picked more than jinky style players.

  11. Do the rumours about the hun share issue not being the success we were told it was at the time (albeit under subscribed) throw any light on the subsequent rise in the share price, which some found surprising?

  12. Debut delight for Rogic

    Clydesdale Bank SPL Under-20s League

    HAMILTON…1

    Ryan 47

    CELTIC… 3

    Rogic 9, Stokes 57, Eadie 91

TOM Rogic scored in his first appearance in a Hoops shirt to help the Celtic Under-20s to a hard-fought 3-1 victory over Hamilton at New Douglas Park.

The Australian internationalist on slotted home from 12 yards to put the youngsters ahead inside the first 10 minutes.

Although the home side levelled matters at the start of the second half through Andy Ryan’s header, Anthony Stokes converted from close range to put the youths back in front.

And almost on the stroke of full time, substitute Glen Eadie, sealed the three points for the visitors with a well-taken goal.

Rogic, operating just behind Stokes in attack, couldn’t have asked for a more favourable start to life in the Hoops. It emanated from a mistake from the hosts.

A misplaced pass was fastened onto by Patrik Twardzik. He rolled the ball into the attacker’s path and he calmly side-footed the ball into the net.

And the 20-year-old could have bagged another just minutes later. Cutting in from the left, he skipped past several challenges and found Stokes. He collected the return pass from the striker and saw his first effort blocked, while he fired the rebound into the side-netting.

The home side replied with a low shot with Andy Ryan which Leonardo Fasan dealt with comfortably.

At the other end, Stokes came close, glancing a header narrowly over from Bahurdin Atajic’s cross. And it was another Atajic delivery that the young Celts created their next chance. His corner was headed towards goal by Gershon but was blocked and eventually cleared to safety.

Hamilton were becoming more of a threat, however, and Fasan produced a magnificent acrobatic save to deny Gary Fisher after the midfielder’s drive had taken a deflection.

A clash of heads forced Eoghan O’Connell off at the break, with Liam Henderson entering the fray. And just two minutes after the restart, the hosts restored parity.

Ryan Finnie sent an inviting cross in from the right and Ryan’s header found the net, despite the best efforts of Fasan.

In the 57th minute, however, Celtic restored their advantage. Atajic did well on the right and his cross fell at the feet of Rogic. Although his close-range effort was saved by Christie, Stokes eventually swept home the rebound.

In the closing stages, the youngsters had several chances to add to their tally.Darnell Fisher made a terrific tackle and then picked out Atajic with a raking pass. The hitman cut inside and sent a powerful effort on target which Christie managed to turn behind.

And then Atajic turned provider, releasing Rogic inside the box, and the new Bhoy’s effort beat Christie but rolled just beyond the far post.

However, in added time, substitute Eadie did find a way past Christie to round off the scoring. He latched onto Atajic’s low delivery, side-stepped a defender and calmly rolled the ball into the net as the youths cemented their position at the SPL summit.

CELTIC (4-4-1-1) Fasan; Fisher, O’Connell (Henderson46), Gershon, Waters; Atajic, Kidd, Miller, P. Twardzik; Rogic (McManus 80); Stokes (Eadie 58)

  13. Watched the Jan ’11 2-0 game the other night, what a game Paddy had that day, Ledley and Kayal bossed the CM like they used to.

Out of the players who started the following survive-

Old rangers- Elbows. The wee boy Hutton came on as a sub.

Celtic- Forster, Rogne, Izzy, Forrest, Kayal, Ledley, Mulgrew, McCourt, Samaras. (Wilson M, big Dan have left). Hoops and Broony up the Celtic end.

A lot to be said about squad stability.

Could Celtic be looking at brining in a free agent and can he still be added to the squad for Europe?

    ……………..

When did he last do anything of note (and by that i mean even beat a man and play in a killer pass) in the team? Teams now have him sussed and he doesn’t work hard enough for the team, even Messi realises he has to work his arse off when Barca don’t have the ball.

  16. A rough ‘n’ tumble game on the cards with ICT imminent, then three days later, the biggest match of the season v Juventus.

A test of mettle all round and a stern examination of NFL’s managerial nous.

  18. I think the Paddy debate is one that will always run and run.

If he was to get a chance at all then a game like Sunday would have been one for him to show what he can do. I was surprised he didn’t feature. He seems to be a bit of an enigma. The guy has outstanding skills of being able to beat men with the ball at his feet but he doesn’t appear to be able to hold down a first team berth.

I thought one of his more mature performances was at Ibrox when Big Samaras scored two goals. Battled away well that day and looked a first team player.

Alas his time has come and gone. I don’t see him getting a new deal. Someone will pick up a very useful player for free in the summer. He will be an excellent player at the likes of Hibs or Dundee United.

If P McC can’t be replaced in the Juve squad, what’s to be gained by declaring him dropped now?

  20. LiviBhoy, I saw that article and it doesn’t seem to make any sense.. Under EUEFA rules slots 1 to 17 in the squad can be filled by anyone but slots 17 to 25 can only be filled by “Home grown” Players, i.e. Players who have been trained at the Club for 3 years between the ages of 15 & 21. I was looking at the initial A list of 21 trying to pick out the 4 “Home Grown” lads, obviously Dylan, Tony Watt & Charlie. are 3, there must be a 4th and by my reckoning there would have to be a 5th to allow Paddy or Rogic to be added. However one would have to think there is a 5th as Paddy was in original squad. If there is a 5th and if Paddy has fallen out of favour, why not just replace him with Rogic. TotallyConfusedCSC.

My mate says the artificial hiking of the share price was really crass and he thinks it has done more damage than good, I was told that if you know where to look you can see the shares circulating

A lot of this stuff with the shares I don’t fully understand, but seems it is much more common than we realise, I asked about the AIM rules and was told they will eventually need to be adhered to , it is the word eventually that I am thinking about

  22. corkcelt

Could the slot be kept open for another keeper? I know the rules are slightly different for a goalie if we get one or both injured and or one sent off and therefore suspended.

That is my concern if big Forster is a doubt. That would be a huge loss.

Purely speculating here as I don’t know the fitness of Forster but hoping he is fine for Juventus and the rest of the season.

The whole scenario is just bizarre. Why handicap the squad leaving a berth empty? Makes no sense to me.
