UnCommons Moneyball gem

857

Someone made the point to me over the weekend, 30 goals, and counting, from midfield, rivals 53 from Henrik Larsson as a central striker.  It is an unnecessary burden to compare Kris Commons to Celtic’s greatest player in four decades, even Henrik couldn’t compare to the memory of Henrik, but the history books will show for decades to come, Kris Commons is a rare gem, a Celtic player for the ages.

He’s the definition of a Moneyball player, he’s a great multiple Player of the Year and he’s ours.

Enjoy watching him.

My Bhoy will be 2 in July. I am 36 and my wife is 40 next year. Her birthday was yesterday. I would say if we had kids about 10 years ago we would be in a much better state financially and physically. We are cherishing every day though. Being a parent is the best job in the world.

Off school for the bank holiday yesterday. She would normally sleep a bit later than 9:30 when she surfaced.

“Can we go to Celtic Park to see the Celtic Way” she asks.

So we end up at CP. The approach looks wonderful, befitting a club of our stature and world renown. Paid a visit to the store but didn’t buy anything.

    Where next says I?

Can we go to the Dogs Trust?

The real reason for our Glasgow visit, I believe!

Still, we had a great day!

    I am blessed indeed.

    Sounds a lovely day.

Where do you park visiting the ground now for a tour and stuff? The old bus park? I want to take the Bhoy on a tour this summer. He won’t have a clue about much of it but I want to take him to the park and let him see it.

We parked at the ticket office. There doesn’t appear to be access to the South Stand from London Road.

I did see cars coming in via the back of the Jock Stein Stand, so mibbe get in via Janefield Street.

I got a gift for my 65th from my mother in law, God bless her, a meal and drinks at the no 7 restaurant, plus a stadium tour so was interested in the parking arrangements too.

We are going to stay at the travel lodge along London Road so a short taxi ride will solve the parking problem.

I think Liverpool’s late collapse last night did make a bigger difference than you think. Man City can now afford to draw one of their last 2 games, and, as long as they win the other one, would take the title on goal difference, barring something extraordinary happening at Anfield on the last match day.

I had pointed out to Ryecatcher 2 weeks ago that Liverpool had a worse defensive record than both Hull and Crystal Palace. The warning signs were obvious in the victory against Norwich, but weren’t heeded. Great as they are going forward, a great team needs some ability to defend.

    Genuine question:

How much longer can Hunco continue in their financial distress before Scottish football starts to view them as an unhealthy dynamic that destabilises the game in this country?

    ———————————————————————————–

I guess it depends on how you define “Scottish football”. I think the clubs have this view, but not the authorities or the media.

You still hear about how the club was in perfect health when Murray sold to Whyte, and that everything went wrong from that point. No mention of all the years of unsustainable spend by Murray.

They will get a shock when “Rangers” (sic) come “back” (sic) and can’t compete like the old Rangers.

Sky sources: Man C to be fined 50m and have CL squad restricted to 21 players for next season.

They either accept the fine by Friday or appeal to a panel

Congratulations to the new retireers and impending retireers.

After the recent tribute from Brendan Rodgers to his mentor, Tommy Burns, it was interesting that last night, his team emulated Tommy’s weakness as a manager, I.e., snatching a draw from the jaws of a victory.

The amount of drawn games we had on that particular season did more damage than any Goram heartbreaking heroics.

  27. Awe_Naw

Obviously, the money won’t worry them as much as the squad restriction, albeit it’s only 4 players less than regulation. What will worry them will be the implications of a second offence, because they need to add better quality, especially at the back, to win the CL.

For that reason, I think they might well appeal the decision.

  28. LiviBhoy - God bless wee Oscar on

    beatbhoy

Do they not have to have a set number of home grown players in the squad too?

It’s a pretty decent sanction. I only hope that if they are in breach of the rules again the fine is doubled and they are reduced to 18 players and a 3rd breach would result in a European ban.

Congratulations on your decision, I’m sure you won’t regret it. A wee word of warning sadly for you. Make sure you have loads to fill your day and more importantly, your mind when you do stop work because when the initial euphoria settles it does take a fair bit of adjustment in the thinking department to come to terms with the fact of your self worth. You may or may not go through the period when you ask yourself what it is exactly you contribute to society now that you are retired. But you’ll get over it for sure!!

All this talk of retirement has me seriously jealous,I was 50 at Christmas have three older boys, two at Uni and have been working for 28 years. Can’t see me retiring till 65 I’m afraid. You are all very lucky.Another 4 years the youngest will hopefully be out of Uni and I can start to plan for retirement then, too many bills for planning at the moment.
