UnCommons Moneyball gem

857

Someone made the point to me over the weekend, 30 goals, and counting, from midfield, rivals 53 from Henrik Larsson as a central striker.  It is an unnecessary burden to compare Kris Commons to Celtic’s greatest player in four decades, even Henrik couldn’t compare to the memory of Henrik, but the history books will show for decades to come, Kris Commons is a rare gem, a Celtic player for the ages.

He’s the definition of a Moneyball player, he’s a great multiple Player of the Year and he’s ours.

Enjoy watching him.

  3. Tomorrow night is a vital night in the U20s quest to retain the league title.

Unfortunately Celtic TV will not show the game.

    Here’s a wee tease.

    McMullan: Bhoys have belief

By: Mark Henderson on 05 May, 2014 14:22

PAUL McMullan was the star of the show as Celtic Under-20s deservedly defeated their Rangers counterparts 2-0 at Murray Park in March – and he believes that performance can only boost their belief going into tomorrow’s Glasgow derby title decider.

Deployed on the right wing, he gave opponent Chris Hegarty a torrid time with his pace, trickery and movement as the young Hoops impressed in front of the watching Neil Lennon.

And coaches Stevie Frail and John Kennedy will be hoping the Denny Bhoy can weave his magic again when the Ibrox side visit Lennoxtown with the championship at stake.

Trailing Gordon Durie’s side by five points, having played one game fewer, the young Celts know only a win will keep their hopes alive of a fifth successive title.

But McMullan and his team-mates will go into the game knowing they have the capability of achieving that goal.

“The Rangers game at Murray Park was probably the highlight over the past 12 months,” said the winger.

“It was one of those nights where everything I tried came off. It’s nice to have those games and for it to be a big occasion against Rangers was great as well.

“The first couple of times I managed to get by the guy I was playing against. It worked well so they kept giving me the ball. Obviously the two goalscorers take a lot of credit but it was good to contribute in such a big game.

“The way we played the last time can only give us confidence to go on and do the same this time and hopefully we can beat them again.”

    I’m philosophical when I lose.

In the same way that a tenner at 5/1 wins me £60,because as far as I’m concerned, once the bet is placed the money is no longer mine.

I’m frequently correct in that regard!

Celts have to beat them Tuesday and also win at DU on Thursday .
