Underestimating teams in August, win Walfrid hospitality tomorrow

923

You and I have enough recent experience to know teams we’ve never heard of, or know little about, cannot be underestimated when it comes to European football.  We should expect, and will get, a very difficult game tomorrow.

The good news is that Hapoel Beer Shiva have lost goals in three consecutive matches after a solid defensive run which saw them keep 8 clean sheets in 12 games.  But they scored four while conceding in two of those games, the only reversal coming at home to Ashdod in the League Cup last midweek.

They shut up shop away from home in their two earlier Champions League qualifying rounds at Sheriff in Moldova after a narrow 3-2 home win, they kept out Olympiakos before winning the return 1-0 in the last round.

Unlike in previous years, we are not facing a team midseason in the playoff round; Hapoel have had a few cup games but will not open their league season until Saturday.

Hospitality for 3 people at Celtic-Hapoel Beer Shiva at Walfrid Restaurant

Celtic sponsor, Intelligent Car Leasing, have given us three tickets for fantastic hospitality at the Walfrid Restaurant, before, during and after tomorrow’s night’s Champions League qualifier.  This is another money can’t buy opportunity for three people to watch Celtic in a hugely important game in sumptuous comfort.

Anyone can enter the competition, however, as this prize of so incredible, I’d like everyone who enters to donate a recommended £10 to the good work of the Celtic Foundation.

You can donate at this MyDonate page.

The Celtic Foundation work to improve Health, promote Equality, encourage Learning and tackle Poverty (H.E.L.P.) in Scotland, the rest of the UK and Ireland, and worldwide.  It’s your Foundation, you built and maintain its good work.

A few guidelines for the raffle:

Raffle closes at 21:00 BST TONIGHT, so there’s not a lot of time and I’m not expecting many entries.  You will not be entered into the competition if you donate or apply afterwards.

Enter with an email address you are going to check later tonight or early tomorrow, add a phone number, if you like.

You can enter two ways:

By making a recommended £10 donation to Celtic FC Foundation here.  Then email me at celticquicknews@gmail.com with Walfrid in the subject line, to make sure I can get in touch with you.

Or

By emailing me the names of every Celtic shirt sponsor and official kit manufacturer.  Ever. To celticquicknews@gmail.com

One of the above will be pretty easy for most of us.  The other will be pretty difficult.  Do the easy one.

Great prize.  Only open for a few hours so there will be little competition.  Go for it!

Thank you, and thanks to Intelligent Car Leasing for supporting our fundraising efforts.

Some amount of info to digest here guys.

I have a kids ticket that excludes New Rangers.

If my kid wanted to go to the New Old Firm revisionism game is it:

    a) £30 for one game

    b) £30 for two New Old Firm revisionism games ie. pay £30 2 games against New Rangers included.

Let’s welcome the Israeli team tomorrow night…Hanthala (probably) says, “Be’er Sheva are not our enemy”…

    …………………………………………………………………………………………

Welcome them like Any Football team.

    It isnae Rocket Salad.

  3. How can Celtic offer a two match upgrade when it is not certain sevco will be in the top 6?

However the title of the opposition printed on the ticket disheartens me greatly, endorsing the old with the new then eventually it is accepted, makes me feel sick, the pricing also gives some kind of special status to this match which it does nor merit, they are four years old and in their fifth season.

  4. “I have a kids ticket that excludes New Rangers.”

    Moonbeams,

    We’ll that’s a case of fraud if I’ve ever seen one. :)

It’s 30 quid in your case each game.

Unless they have changed, league rules would prevent this.

Wasn’t there some complaint last year about Celtic away fans being charged more for certain games? Can’t remember the details but it sounded like a premium was being added by some clubs

It certainly does not pay to underestimate teams we have little knowledge of.

    Do the research.

Batter the bookies. That’s my theory. It will work one day.

Like Millwall winning the FA Cup.

Seriously,I expect Celtic to be pretty much aware of our opponents strengths and weaknesses.

After that,it’s down to the manager to counter/exploit that and then the players to do their bit.

No prediction as always. I just want success.

    OK. So – I don’t understand Geordie’s comment.

  13. This is not the first time there has been upgrades/ price increases for kids season tickets when playing Them.

Back in 2011/12 my son had the £50 season ticket which excluded their 2 games. I could have had their games included but that was £120. I didnt take that option as I didnt want to subject him, as a 9 year old, to their full, vile, hateful and despicable repertoire. Not to mention the ugliness of their visage ;-)

Especially not for an additional £30 per game (Incidentally the other 16 games or so combined were £10 less than the cost of just their 2 games??? No differentiation back then either obviously….)

I was able to upgrade to an adult ticket for those 2 games at an adiitional £40 per game if memory serves (it may have been £45, but I honestly cant remember, maybe others can?) which I or rather my brother was willing to do.

Have to admit I certainly do not recall the same level of outcry back then as there is now.

    I’m tempted butt……I’m not biting…!

  15. I’m falling on the side of no in ground protest tomorrow. Even though my natural position is to support any protest against any team associated with corruption.

However I regard my own clubs PLC to be associating itself with corruption when I consider the New Old Firm love they hold dearly for the blue pound.

I decided last week not to attend tomorrow nights game. A small protest against what I see as the naturalisation of a states genocide in world current affairs, but it’s mine and I’ll stand by it.

I am in the process of considering means by which if at all possible our support can legitimately protest against corruption that is a firmly held view of large sections of support without bringing punishments on our club.

Things that I consider corruption and it appears there is largely support for such as:

Israeli teams inclusion in UEFA comps.

Celtic propping up New Old Firm Revisionism (ie overpricing Sevco games and non support of Res12)

    SFA corruption.

The only thing I can think of to protest against these, in my view evils, is non attendance. However that is likely antithesis of the Celtic support in general and would never happen.

The only other option therefor is to attend all major televised games but to garner agreement amongst the support not to enter ground for first 10 minutes. This would surely raise awareness and comment.

  22. I think we’ve got to be aiming for a 2-0 or better tomorrow night. Going over there needing a goal is going to be difficult, they defend well and regardless of the changes we’ve made there’s no evidence to suggest that we’re likely to be able to get a clean sheet away from home in Europe.

I’ve got news for you; the Israelis and their allies will ignore it; UEFA won’t and they will hammer Celtic.

Do you honestly believe that Benjamin Netanyahu will be tuning into BT Sport with a couple of cold beers and on seeing a few paper flags at Celtic Park and then calling a Cabinet Meeting and saying “This occupation of Gaza is wrong; tell the boys to pull down the wall tomorrow and we will move out of the disputed territories.”

    No? Me neither.

If everyone who wants to wave a paper flag tomorrow is serious, let them donate £10 to the cause and proactively demonstrate on a regular basis against the occupation of Palestine. Think that’ll happen?

    No? Me neither.
