Use Wolfsburg to find desperately needed sharpness

1058

If you’ve been here for a while you’ll have noticed I don’t pay much attention to preseason friendlies but tomorrow’s game against Wolfsburg takes on a more serious tone after Tuesday’s reversal – Celtic desperately need to find sharpness.

Despite the well-placed confidence that we’ll cope comfortably at Celtic Park on Wednesday against Lincoln Red Imps, the serious challenges will come thick and fast thereafter.

Players need to find their edge and the manager needs to learn who goes where and works with whom. It’s just about possible for us to get things together, but whoever we pull out of the hat in today’s provisional third qualifying round draw will be delighted to catch a team in apparent flux.

All this brings us back to Wolfsburg’ a much needed test.

  1. There is no doubt that the tone & content of CQN has dropped alarmingly. It appears that it is now acceptable to call other posters, liars, lowlife & scumbags. I know Paul is on hols at the moment but how about a bit of self policing.

We have not yet dropped to the standard of The Bears Den but our standards are dropping. Really good men have left and guys more interested in promoting themselves rather than trying to bring something positive to the blog are running the show.

It is a pity, the idea of a good blog which can unite Tims from all over the world is excellent, in addition to posters, there are thousands more who are just content to lurk. It is a great resource and has done many many positive things.

How about we all make an effort to (a) Set a standard for our own posts and (B) Where a nasty spat is taking place try to encourage the combatants to moderate their comments.

    I agree with you.

Needs more though. But Keep at it and a more universal code setting out those standards could be the result.

Everyday we have the same posters deliberately upsetting people. Inevitably people bite and react. It snowballs from there.

CORKCELT. I believe you speak for many on here who are sick of the egotistical bullshit spouted ad nauseam by some posters.

I personally believe that the blog is getting more hunnish by the day, and to me the saddest thing of all, apart from the disappearance of many decent posters, is the lack of humour now evident.

You used to be able to get a laugh on here in the days when people didn’t take themselves too seriously.

    Not now.

I fear CQN is heading directly down the crapper.

Maybe it’s inevitable, since everything has a shelf life.

    Have THEY won?

  6. Canamalar,

    Thanks for the update.

Many thanks for that. I have followed your advice and blocked ‘elements’ on this page . It has worked!

Only one drawback – I now have no excuse not to read the blog!

  9. Here’s the conundrum for Brendan.

Play your Wednesday team and risk injury / failure. Play your non-Wednesday team and risk failure / wrath of CQN.

Play a mixture and confuse the heck out of the prophets.

Whatever. It’s a home game. I’ll be there. Celtic will be playing (in the Hoops I hope). And will get to see the standing section first hand.

    Have a great day everyone.

    I agree

Yesterday morning I was at an event where there was a minutes silence for those who had died in Nice. I came on to CQN to find some distraction to find posters trying to make cheap political capital from the horrific events. I was so angry I logged out, when I checked back in later is was name calling and abuse that an 8 year old would find childish. There were several attempts to try and drag the blog back to football but these were generally ignored. I decided to give up on CQN apart from reading Paul’s articles and live updates but I decided to pop in today to see if there was ant transfer/football news since we are playing today.

I don’t enjoy the political posts but it’s a free blog and people post what they want but it really is soul destroying scrolling past the same posters with the same views page after page.

CQN is in serious danger of stopping being a blog where you can Celtic news with some great stories and a lot of humour.

  12. The Battered Punnet,

Look forward to a pleasant exchange of views, mainly football related, with a few laughs thrown in.

Astana winning 2-1 at halftime to go 13pts clear at the top of their league after 21 games, could be a testing few weeks for Brendan & co, am still optimistic

I note you add “Nowhere does BRTH mention your participation in the decision to withdraw remotely or otherwise”, enlighten us all here please, wtf is the “decision to withdraw” meant to be about ? Where does BRTH mention it as you imply ?

    ————————

‘The decision to withdraw’ means the decision by BRTH and Morrissey to let the resolution be taken off the agenda.

Canamalar. I’ve lots of highly sensitive material around the Res 12 issue that I really don’t want to air. In spite of in spite of the craven connivance to restore the Old Firm brand, I’m not for handing free propaganda to our enemies, nor for bringing the requisitioners or Celtic into disrepute . So, instead of digging further, why don’t you just agree to disagree?

    Off to Paradise today

Caught up with Tuesdays game last night on youtube, interesting perspective from the Gibraltarian commentary team

Front 3 were a shambles, particularly Christie, Grifiths straight jacket on the right inhibits him and the team, Dembele a big raw project, if Brendan wants to persist with an all out attacking formation of 4-3-3 i hope Celtic are going to get him the quality players for it, as we stand we will crash big time in Europe playing 4-3-3

    Celtic Football Club ‏@celticfc

There will be a minute’s silence at Celtic Park today in memory of the victims of the attack in Nice. Players will wear black armbands. (PC)

    ………………………………………………………….

Time will tell whether BR thinks that is his best front 3 or whether he felt it was the best option for that particular game.

Maybe with a few games together they can develop an understanding that can make them the potent attack BR will be hoping for but as well as getting a few games together it will help if they get decent service and support from the midfield and full backs.

Janko and Tierney didn’t acquit themselves very well and the same goes for our midfield so it was a bit harsh of them to single out just those 3!

Too much going on in that game with Dembele making his competitive debut, Griffiths getting stuck out on the right and Christie hasn’t exactly played many games, neither has Janko, dodgy pitch, new formation, tactics, etc.

Its going to be interesting to see whether he sticks with it in an attempt to give them time to gel and if he does…..where does that leave Roberts?

He aint up here to sit on the bench!

  17. Jobo, excellent time! With a hangover as well.

    Kill joy,

Res12 was adjourned, which is why it’s still live and the Plc are forced to make statements every year at the AGM’s about it.

As for your claim about damning evidence you’ve been telling us about this since you started making up story’s about us, just publish and be damned, I couldn’t give a monkeys about anything you think might be damaging, if you think there is something worth telling the world about underhand activities it best you just get it done instead of pretending, I’m sure like me there are many who are interested in what you think you have. So come on let’s see it or shut the hell up.

  24. I am too aware of how little I know about football to say ` Brendan should do this or that`. Even so, I believe that having a regular nucleus to the team would surely be part of any successful plan.

Deciding which of our plethora of midfielders would be in this nucleus is the Manager`s job. I hope he shows himself is capable of selecting the most effective grouping. If he decides to play Roberts, Dembele and Griffiths on a regular basis, we might have too many vying for the three midfield positions.

McGregor , Biton and Armstrong would be interesting.
