If/when minds at Celtic get around to considering a replacement for Alan Thompson it would also be wise to recognise the international nature of the game. Lennon, Mjallby, Parker and Thompson were all football sons of Martin O’Neill, rooted in the domestic tradition of the game (even the Swede).
Football philosophy drifts slowly between national boundaries carried by successful coaches and players. Right now the ambitious teams in the world are trying to ape the Barcelona/Spain model, the success of which is hard to argue with, but whether we look for a Spanish influence or not, we must surely look for a voice to challenge what the current management team regard as orthodoxy, in all aspects of the job.

DJBEE,
I don’t doubt that the shows that you are recommending have some kind of quality & maybe even artistic integrity.
I genuinely DON’T KNOW.
All I do know is that my life would need to be very devoid of stimulation before I would depend on some writer, producer, actor,..whatever, ..to fill the spaces in my otherwise bored existence.
A walk on the local hills, or an hour spent with a history book, would provide more excitement & stimulation for ME than all the imaginations of some guy in London, or in Hollywood.
There is more drama by the minute in your local hills than these self-important ‘artistes’ could even imagine.
Actors ? Is there any adult among us who has ever met an actor who had the IQ of a frog, or the integrity of Craig Whyte ?
Now , there is a man who has wasted his talent.
HE is a natural born ACTOR.
I can understand an old, infirm or bed-ridden person watching these ‘fantastic’ TV dramas, but speaking personally , I would sooner stare at a naked light bulb.
Takes all kinds……….

Sad to say, but although the VAST majority of Celtic fans are the most decent in the world, we will always have some moronic hangers on.
It’s the way of the world.
Fortunately most of those that carry on as you described, grow up eventually and cringe at their former actions.

I have said all that I have got to say on the matter.I could sit here and tell list all the occasions when we got lucky in the CL games as well, but I am not going to,because I don’t wish to upset folk any further that i already have.
It is my opinion that WGS wasn’t a good manager,he got lucky to a certain extent, but the luck didn’t last and we went back down to zero.
Poor Aiden’s not wanted anywhere it seems……

I agree with you that 99% of the Celtic support are fantastic and do nothing but good things,,,all it takes though is that 1% to ruin it for everyone!!!
Anyway onwards and upwards!!

I don’t think you could win three league titles, a Scottish Cup, a League Cup and get to the last 16 of the ECL, twice, by being really, really, really lucky.
You’d have to be really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really very lucky indeed to achieve all of that just because you’re really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really lucky;-)
A wee bit of hard work and talent might have helped as well.
Sixteen Roads to Golgatha, what is it you don’t like about Gordon Strachan?
Was he just too lucky, can’t be that he wasn’t a successful Celtic manager, because he was, arguably as successful as Martin O’Neil.
Sixteen Roads
We went back down to zero
Can you elaborate ?

Argentina v Brazil is live on Saturday at 2000 on ESPN, just in case Germany v Portugal doesn’t whet your whistle ;)
Martin O’Neil inherited a far superior pool of players than Gordon Strachan. Anyway cheers to them both.
SS1 Lisbon game on now.

There was nothing – zero, just like his first European game – we just went full circle under his stewardship and reverted right back to where we were almost four years later.
Going backwards.
Jobo – sorry, was trying to hold a conversation with you whilst trying to sort out young Kayla. Whenever we get some good weather again – we can have a catch up over a beer or two. Any driveway suits!

Boa tarde,
Just back from all sorts of rufty tales of derring doo on the South Atlantic high seas – but tales of that’ll need to wait until another day.
Remember the last time I was on?
No?
Well neither do I.
Anyway, I was touting raffle tix for the Rio Fergus McCann CSC draw. Well….
…….Due to the high number of tickets sold we’ve decided to be extra generous with the prizes.
The prize list is:
1. Signed Celtic top – Lenny and the squad (or most of them anyway)
2. Signed Celtic top – Lisbon Lion Bertie Auld
3. Signed Celtic top – Lisbon Lion Joe McBride
4. One liter of malt whisky (we’ll get it to you)
5. Four miniatures of malt whisky
6. RFMCSC tee shirt
7. RFMCSC tee shirt
8. RFMCSC tee shirt
9. Celtic memorabilia kit
10. Celtic pennants.
Some pretty damn good prizes there folks, and ten of them. We’ve sold around 150 tickets so there’s still pretty good odds on picking up a prize. Last raffle we had, one of you lucky CQN’ers filled yer boots.
The tickets are still on sale at 5.00 GBP each (or US$8 or R$15).
Tickets can be bought through paypal to bhowe@technip.com or via, Bank of Scotland sort code 80-05-40 a/c 00474345, or in cash to one of the trusted members of the RFMCSC.
All money raised will go to funding of the Rio Celtic Boys teams (all five of them).
Draw is scheduled for Sunday 10th of June before the Ireland v Croatia match. Will be held in the CSC pub, The Blue Agave, Rua Vinicius de Moraes, 86, Ipanema, Rio de Janeiro.
All welcome to come to check the draw is carried out fair and square.
Boa sorte!!

Sixteen roads to Golgotha, how much had the transfer budget and wage bill reduced since MON left, WGS took over and the four years he was manager? He kept a winning team on the park despite these reductions, I’m just grateful to him, for lots of reasons, beating Man U, beating Milan, Shaktar, three leagues etc, all while downsizing hugely.
Sixteen.
Check out the financials. Its WGS that turned the club around. Your failure to recognise that is very hunnesque.
HH
So now that the ragers players are back on their full fat wages ,can we assume that the wee face painting wummin will have to make do with less than 9p in the £ whilst the mighty ragers carry on with this farce

Wage bill the highest? Are you sure about that?
Weren’t we downsizing during that time?
If the wage bill was so high as you say, that explains why he was so lucky!
Nothing to do with talent, endeavour or determination.
Give WGS some credit, we had a successfully period when he was in charge.

I agree WGS did a great job in his time at the club .
After winning 3 IAR and going into the last two games with the title in our hands
old Minty must have been on the porcalin bricking it ,although how we managed to drop 22 pts after christmas was criminal .
IMO the board after MON looked at the way the club was being run and changed course .

I have checked the financials, believe me – many times.
At one point, during his tenure – the wage bill stood at £33million – the highest in the history of the club.
It is a myth that he was prudent, after O’Neill’s tenure. The down-sizing started straight after Seville – O’Neill invested heavily in players, only in his first season in charge. In his last season – i think that O’Neill only spent £500,000 on players – Bellamy was his only major move – and that was a loan signing.
You have no idea how big of a mess that WGS left behind him – and the knock-on affect that it had on the others that followed him.
