Vacancy for a coach to challenge O’Neill orthodoxy

914

If/when minds at Celtic get around to considering a replacement for Alan Thompson it would also be wise to recognise the international nature of the game.  Lennon, Mjallby, Parker and Thompson were all football sons of Martin O’Neill, rooted in the domestic tradition of the game (even the Swede).

Football philosophy drifts slowly between national boundaries carried by successful coaches and players.  Right now the ambitious teams in the world are trying to ape the Barcelona/Spain model, the success of which is hard to argue with, but whether we look for a Spanish influence or not, we must surely look for a voice to challenge what the current management team regard as orthodoxy, in all aspects of the job.

  19. I see that wee Gordon’s abilities and sadly even his character is the knot on a tug of war rope tonight.

I was always and always will be a fan of the man, manager and his principles but I did occasionally put on a wryly negative pair of specs. One day I put myself in the shoes of those who obviously could do a much better job or just hated him and penned the following!

To the tune ‘ macnamara’s band’!

Oh me name is Gordon Strachan, I’m the leader of the band

With all the players I have bought, the best in all the land

Gary, Skoosh and Willo Flood, and Skippy frae the Well

Andy, Lee and Sammy too, it’s only time will tell.

We’ve Artur Boruc wae the gloves and good wae his right hook

And Naka playin on the right, straight frae the coachin book

Wae Mick whose game will peak next year, as soon as he can win

A headin competition gainst his granny’s daddy’s kin.

We’ve Aiden making dizzy runs across the fields of green

We’ve Jan goin roon in circles, the slowest ever seen

We’ve Barry, Marc and Darren, wae skelfs frae sittin doon,

And lonely Shaun Maloney, aye he’ll be ready ‘soon’.

The board have played a sterling game, jist look at who they are

Big Dermot frae the Emerald Isle, an watchin from afar

We’ve Peter Lawell wae the cheques and desperate tae buy

An unknown up frae Timbuctoo or chips frae oot Anne’s Fry!

Our Scoutin models based upon a proven well oiled plan

In fact it’s worked throughout the world from Largs tae Kurdistan

We’ve picked up kids and taught them well, they’re revvin up tae go

Ye’ll see them all next Christmas, at the Kings in the Gang Show.

As fur oor top class coachin staff, I really must confess

Scotland’s no oor oyster, It’s Champions League no less

This year wis cunningly contrived tae fool the usual bunch

Who’ll all be decimated by the latest credit crunch.

Like lemmings every wan o’ them are headed to their doom

They think that we have blown it, we’re nought but doom and gloom,

Frae seven points up at the top, our plan has come tae pass

Which is mair than can be said aboot our midfield’s lack of class.

But never fear for I am here, and here I plan tae stay,

The fan’s have made it very clear they’d rue the very day

That I would leave, and tears would flow, they’d turn tae sniffin glue

Whit’s that you say, those fans are dressed an white and royal blue.

    And then came Tony Mowbray….

    Hail hail

WGS did a fine job at Celtic he started with a tired team from MON and was told to reduce wages this he did while building a decent team.He also imo handled the MSM very well and took us to the last 16 of the Champions league twice nothing shabby about that.I would prefer he didnt come back as it rarely if ever works and I for one would prefer to remember his good times.H.H,

Right ok.I am going to answer your question:

Why do i not like WGS?

For a start,i have never met him – From what i had seen or heard from him – i just thought that he was an eejit – i even thought that he was funny sometimes,he was a likeable person in my opinion.Never once have i said that i disliked him as a person – i wasn’t even bothered by the Kestrel & devil dog remarks, because the remarks were nonsense – that was just his normal form,no big deal.

As for his appointment – i was happy enough at the time,it seemed like a good move, and O’Neill did recommend him – so no worries on that score.

Why i disliked him as a manager?

1.The football was dreadful most of the time.

2.He appeared to be clue-less,tactics etc.

3.In my opinion he wasted a fortune.

4.I once through a half bottle of Magners at my own tv after that game at Easter Road

5.Personal grudges that he held against some of the players

    Does that answer your question?

  23. LENNYisAwarMACHINE on

Lennon’s passion – one of the most sickening moments I have ever had at Celtic park was when Motherwell beat us right after we lost at mordor.

And the last 5 minutes of the game were a disgrace.

A large portion of “fans” left.

And those that stayed chanted “strachan get tae f**k” repeatedly. Sustained and very very loud.

    I was truely ashamed.

Prob more than when Fergus was booed.

And I remember only one other Celtic supporter I know turkey believing we would do it.

I will always have great affection for that wee man.

And even though Mowbray got my full support, there was a side of me (still bitter about WGS’s treatment) that thought: there u got what u wanted, rid of WGS. So enjoy the mess u made.

U made your bed, lay in it.

    Lenny
